Cursed To The Alpha

Chapter 89

Ch. 89 / 135 Dec 16, 2025

'You poor creature,' I whisper, my words barely audible yet reaching the creature's keen ears. I involuntarily stand and step closer, realising that this formidable beast is a werewolf, the very one Xander and Gretchen had bound in this forsaken place. Carefully, I untie my cloak and discard it, capturing the werewolf's attention as its eyes flicker to my ears and tail before locking his eyes onto mine once again. It bares its teeth, issuing a clear warning as I take another tentative step forward.

'They say you've lost all traces of humanity, that you've become a wild and feral wolf,' I speak softly, my hand slowly inching upward despite the growls and snarls of caution. My fingertips yearn to caress the creature's snout, to offer a touch of solace amidst its suffering.

Just as my fingers are about to make contact, Xander's urgent voice pierces the air, calling out my name in warning. 'Rose, get back before he kills you!' he shouts. The voices of Imogen, Janie, and Orelious blend into a chorus of concern, but their words fade into the background as I remain fixated on the majestic beast before me. Its scent permeates the air, intoxicating and irresistible, while its eyes reveal a hidden glimmer, something buried beneath the layers of primal instinct.

And then, it happens. The beast's eyes flicker from blood red to a mesmerising shade of midnight blue, if only for a fleeting moment. 'There you are, Warrick,' I murmur softly, my hand finding its destination on the creature's snout.

A blinding surge of light erupts from the beast, propelling me backward, crashing into Janie with a jolt. We shield our eyes from the magical brilliance, unable to comprehend the unfolding transformation. The beast emits a bone-chilling howl, the sounds of bones breaking piercing the air. Mister Kal hisses, seeking refuge on Xander's shoulder.

'What is happening to the beast?' Orelious questions, his voice full of awe and uncertainty.

'I don't know,' Xander responds, his voice laced with disbelief. 'There's no way he could be shifting into his human form. It's impossible. The only way such a phenomenon could occur would be through his mate's...' Xander's words trail off, his mouth agape with astonishment as he gazes at me, but my attention remains fixed on the diminishing light.

Crawling forward a few paces, I fight the overwhelming urge to rush to the wolf's side, mustering every ounce of willpower to hold my ground.

As the radiant light and swirling dust settle, my eyes are greeted by a sight that steals my breath away. Sitting before me is an embodiment of masculine perfection, an incredibly handsome man with dark, tousled hair, broad shoulders, and a physique defined by strength and power. His mouth hangs open in disbelief as he gazes at his transformed self before closing his eyes and inhaling deeply, savouring the surrounding air as if it carries the essence of the most enchanting flower ever to bloom. In an instant, his head flicks up, and our eyes lock in a magnetic connection.

'Mate!' we simultaneously exclaim, the word hanging in the air like a charged current.

Gasps ripple through the group behind me, their astonishment echoing mine. My eyes widen in shock, my hands instinctively flying to cover my parted lips that have uttered a word I never thought would escape them.

Warrick continues to stare at me, his breath ragged with a mix of disbelief, confusion, and an underlying glimmer of hope. ‘You broke the curse. You're my mate,’ he breathes, his voice laced with wonder.

Trembling, I remove my hands from my mouth, shaking my head in denial. ‘No,’ I manage to whisper, my voice barely audible.

Warrick recoils at my response, his expression a mix of surprise and dismay. I step back, still shaking my head, the weight of the situation pressing upon me. ‘You're not my mate, and I'm not yours. We can't be mates,’ I assert, my voice trembling with the intensity of my emotions.

I stand and glance over my shoulder and see Xander, Janie, Orelious, Imogen, and even Mister Kal, all wearing expressions of utter astonishment mirroring my own.

Suddenly, Janie and Imogen's cheeks flush crimson, catching my attention. In a swift motion, Xander covers Janie's eyes with his hand, and Orelious does the same for Imogen, shielding their gazes for some odd reason. A surge of disapproval emanates from Xander and Orelious, directed over my shoulder. Their protective actions cause me to turn around in curiosity, only to find Warrick has moved as close as the enchanted chain allows, standing before me in his naked form. My eyes inadvertently drift to a certain area, causing my cheeks to flush even redder than Janie and Imogen's combined. Sensations I cannot deny stir within me, and I discreetly press my legs together, attempting to resist the overwhelming desire that threatens to consume me. My gaze flickers upward, meeting Warrick's intense stare.

Warrick crosses his arms, his confidence emanating from every pore, and wears a mischievous but undeniably sexy smirk upon his face. He takes a slow, deep breath in through his nose, his nostrils flaring slightly, and his eyes darkening with a hunger I've never seen before. A highly embarrassing realisation dawns upon me with a jolt as I figure out what he is smelling.

'Oh, you are my mate,' he declares with confidence and delight, his voice tinged with a mixture of triumph and desire.

I gulp.

I find myself frozen in place, caught between the undeniable pull of the mating bond and the looming sense of doom of having a mate overshadowing me. It's as if the world around me dims, leaving only Warrick and me entangled in an invisible web of fate—a fate I do not want.

My mind races, desperately seeking a way to deny this truth, to escape the entanglement that destiny has woven between us. Yet, deep within, a primal part of me recognizes the magnetic force drawing us together, an undeniable connection that defies logic and reason.

Conflicting emotions swirl within me, battling for dominance. Fear wars with desire, and doubt grapples with longing.

Warrick tries to step closer, but the magical chain is taught around his neck. The air crackles with an electric tension as if the very universe holds its breath, anticipating the next move in this intricate dance of fate. His eyes, a captivating storm of emotions, bore into mine, silently demanding my surrender to the pull that binds us.
