'Tell me, beautiful creature,' she whispers to me in a melodic tone, her voice carrying the enchantment of hidden depths. Her slender finger gently lifts my chin, tilting my face upward. 'What is it that you seek?' she asks, her eyes filled with curiosity.
My gaze flickers momentarily to Warrick and my friends, their expressions a mix of concern and urgency. Warrick steps forward, his voice laced with desperation. 'Please, Nagia, release her,' he pleads.
In a swift motion, Nagia's serpentine tail surges from the water, encircling Warrick tightly before bringing him closer to us. Her lips curve into a knowing smile as she locks eyes with Warrick. 'You know the rules, Warrick,' she says, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. 'She ventured into my waters, and now she must pay the price,' she chuckles softly.
'You two know each other?' I ask, a sense of realisation dawning upon me. 'Wait, Nagia is the water nymph. She's real!' I exclaim, the puzzle pieces falling into place as I realise, we're in Diamond Lake.
Warrick's gaze remains fixed on Nagia as he responds, 'Yes, I've known Nagia since I was a young pup and she a young child-nymph. I nearly met my end in these very waters, but she took pity on me and saved my life. We formed a friendship, and I would visit her here every week, where we would play together.'
'I thought you would never return, my sweet Warrick,' Nagia murmurs, her hand tenderly caressing his face. A surge of possessiveness surges within me, compelling me to push her away from him.
'Gretchen cursed me to remain in my wolf form until the touch of my mate would free me. The mystic council, along with Gretchen and a warlock, bound me within the witching woods,' Warrick explains, his voice a mix of sorrow and anger.
Nagia now sways before Warrick like a mesmerizing pendulum, her allure impossible to resist. 'Your mate?' she hisses, her eyes narrowing in understanding. 'You are here in your human form, so I can assume you have been freed?' she remarks.
Warrick gestures towards me, his eyes filled with unwavering determination. 'Rose is my mate,' he declares to Nagia.
Nagia chuckles softly, a sound that echoes through the stillness. 'Ah, I see,' she murmurs, her gaze shifting to me. Nagia glides toward me, her movements fluid, and grabs my face in her hands. 'So unusual you are,' she muses, staring at my ears, which flatten in fear. Her voice is filled with a blend of fascination and danger. 'But rules are rules,' she adds, casting a fleeting glance at Warrick.
'Nagia!' Warrick's voice rises in protest, but she only tightens her hold on him, silencing his words.
'Where were we? Ah, yes,' Nagia says, returning her attention to me.
She sways before me, her piercing gaze fixed upon my soul. 'Speak to me in verses,' she commands in a haunting, melodic tone. 'Weave for me a tapestry of words, an ode to the moonlit night, or risk succumbing to the depths. Deny my request, and you shall forever slumber beneath the shimmering surface of my diamond waters. But if your words please me, I shall release you with the blossom fox,' she offers, her voice alluring and chilling.
'And if my words fail to please you?' I inquire, a tinge of defiance colouring my words.
A sinister grin curves Nagia's lips, revealing razor-sharp teeth. 'Then you shall slumber eternally in my diamond waters,' she declares, her eyes gleaming with a dangerous delight. Warrick struggles against Nagia's grasp, but her hold on him tightens, her power unyielding.
Imogen's desperate cry fills the air as she unleashes a fiery spell, shouting, 'Inferno Flamo!' A torrent of flames hurtles towards Nagia, but as the fire reaches the water's surface, a shimmering dome ripples into existence, repelling the flames and causing them to dissipate on impact.
'Foolish girl,' Nagia chides Janie, her voice laced with amusement and superiority. 'No magic but mine can breach the sanctity of these diamond waters,' she proclaims, asserting her dominance over the realm.
My gaze shifts towards Janie and Imogen, their tear-streaked faces mirroring the desperation and helplessness that grips us all. They cling to each other, finding solace in their shared fear, knowing they can do nothing but await my fate.
Nagia returns her attention to me, her tone changing to one of tentative agreement. 'Because you are Warrick's mate, I am willing to help you,' she concedes, a mischievous glint in her eyes. 'I desire a true poem, crafted from the depths of your heart, not your head,' Nagia continues, pressing her finger against my temple. 'If your words do not emanate from the core of your being, then your fate shall indeed be sealed within my waters,' she laughs, the tone laced with the illusion of a simple child's game.
I close my eyes and think of the pain and emptiness in my heart. The betrayal and harm that Brad caused me to feel. The words form from my aching heart. To Nagia’s surprise, I take her hand and place it over my sorrowful, beating heart. Tears flood my face, and my eyes swiftly open and meet Nagia's gaze head-on.
'In the realm of shattered dreams, I dwell,
Where echoes of love's demise forever swell.
Once adorned with dreams, now shattered and torn,
A broken symphony, a melody forlorn.
A broken heart, a wounded soul, I bear,
Lost in the depths of despair's dark lair.
Fractured and fragile, my heart's tender core,
Aching, bleeding, seeking solace evermore.
The tendrils of betrayal have left their mark,
Leaving scars upon my soul, so cold and stark.
I tremble at the thought of love's embrace,
Afraid to let another enter that sacred space.
For the wounds are deep, the scars remain,
Remnants of a love that caused such pain.
Afraid to trust, to let another soul in,
Haunted by the memories of where love has been.
No more shall I dance in love's tender embrace,
For the agony it brings, I can no longer face.
In shattered fragments, my spirit will remain,
I'm a heart that's broken, never to love again.
I stand here now, with trembling and wounded pride,
Fearful of the love that once stood by my side.'
Nagia’s eyes become as sorrowful as the words I spoke. Her serpent tail releases Warrick back where the others stand. I look over my shoulder to see them all weeping, and to my surprise, even Xander. As I face Nagia again, a tear appears.
