Cursed To The Alpha

Chapter 62

Ch. 62 / 135 Dec 16, 2025

Imogen, captivated by their conversation, joins in with a grin. 'You have to try it, Janie! Imagine the freedom and adventures you could have, gliding through the clouds and exploring the woods from above,' she says.

Janie's eyes sparkle with a blend of anticipation and trepidation. With a deep breath, Janie positions herself atop the broom, feeling the smooth handle fit perfectly in her grip. 'Alright, I'll give it a go,' she says.

'Good luck, Janie,' I say to her.

'I will probably need it,' she says, nervous.

'Trust in yourself, Janie,' Xander says to her. 'Focus on the magic within you. Feel your power surge through your veins and enchant into the broom. Once you've awakened the broom use your Levitatous spell,' he says.

Janie closes her eyes, allowing herself to embrace the mystical energy swirling around her. We hear the words whispered from her mouth, 'Lifto Levitatious,' the broom stirs beneath her, lifting gently off the ground by a few inches. My ears flicker as I listen to her heart pounding with a mixture of exhilaration and awe.

Imogen claps her hands in delight, her laughter echoing through the room. 'You're flying, Janie! You're really flying!'

'Well, kind of. I'm barely hovering above the ground,' Janie frowns.

A mischievous sparkle dances in Xander's eyes. 'Not for long,' he says, his smile radiating mischief and adventure. 'Hold on tight, Janie, and lean to the side to steer the broom. Pull back when you wish to slow down or halt. And lean forward to accelerate. Remember, you can also command the broom to ascend or descend, adjusting your altitude as desired,' he explains with guidance.

Janie's brows furrow with concern as she bites her lip, her gaze fixated on the ground below. 'But what if I fall?' she asks, her voice tinged with fear and longing for the skies.

A reassuring smile graces Xander's lips as he takes Janie's hand, intertwining their fates once more. ‘I shall catch you,' he assures her, his voice brimming with unwavering support. 'So, my dear Janie, try and enjoy it and have some fun,' he winks.

Janie nods, her eyes alight with determination. She surveys all of us surrounding her, drawing strength from our unwavering belief in her.

With a commanding presence, she addresses the broom, her voice filled with newfound authority. 'Ascend, broom,' she orders, her words a gentle command.

The broom ascends, carrying Janie, whilst five Twigglers grab onto the broom's bristles as it carries Janie skyward. Together, they fly, leaving a chorus of cheers and applause reverberating through the air. Janie's heart swells with exhilaration as she zooms into the vast expanse of the sky.

She gazes down at the world below, her heart fluttering with newfound liberation. 'I am flying,' she says, her voice a tremor of wonderment and triumph. With each passing moment, her confidence unfurls like a blossoming flower, and she embraces the broom's rhythm as her own.

With newfound confidence, she leans forward, increasing her speed, soaring through the trees as the Twigglers gleefully enjoy the extreme ride. We watch Janie wobble a few times, almost losing her balance, but she gracefully steadies herself. She practices turn after turn until she comfortably flies in circles. Xander nods his head proudly at Janie’s confidence.

Janie surprises us even further as she turns the broom, flying upside down towards us, 'This is so much fun,' she squeals as she zooms passed us. The Twigglers finally fall off, landing with big grins and cheerfully scurrying off into the foliage.

But Janie's adventure takes an unexpected twist as she navigates through an open window, disappearing momentarily from our sight. A gasp escapes our lips as we watch her emerge through the front door, traversing the woods with her broom until we see a branch snag her. The broom drops to the ground while Janie holds onto the branch. Just as it snaps, Xander jumps into my shadow and appears from the tree's shadow, catching Janie in his arms. Imogen picks up Janie's broom for her and moves towards them.

A radiant smile graces Janie's face as she gazes at Xander, gratitude and admiration shining in her eyes. 'You caught me,' she whispers her voice a tender melody of trust and affection.

'I told you I would,' Xander replies, his voice a gentle caress, as he carries her back to the house, with love resonating in their hearts.

Sunday morning dawns upon us, and the kitchen becomes a whimsical battlefield of flour and cooking chaos. Janie, Imogen and I stand amidst the delightful mess, our clothes dusted with a powdery coat, while the playful Twigglers tirelessly scrub away at the evidence of our culinary adventures. But no matter how hard they work, we create a new mess as we continue on a baking spree, our creativity and enthusiasm fuelling the delicious mayhem.

Breads rise with golden crusts, emitting a mouth-watering aroma that fills the air. Cheesy delights bubble in the oven, their savoury essence teasing our taste buds. With their flaky crusts and luscious fillings, pies beckon us to indulge in their sweet temptation. Scones and biscuits, warm and tender, beg to be slathered with butter and jam.

In the midst of our baking frenzy, Xander, ever resourceful, appears with leather flask bottles. ‘Be sure to fill these with water before we leave for Felderia tonight,’ he says.

Janie and I nod as we cut linen cloths into squares and wrap some cooled-down baked goods inside.

Meanwhile, Imogen, donning oven mittens like a knight preparing for battle, gracefully dashes to the oven. With practised precision, she pulls out a tray of slightly overcooked baked goods, their edges kissed by the oven's warmth. Her quick action saves them from a fate of burnt sacrifice, preserving their delectable essence for our eager palates.

The kitchen continues to echo with laughter, flour-dusted smiles, and the irresistible scent of baked delights.

As the Twigglers valiantly scrub the never-ending spills and specks, we savour the magic of the moment, the bonds forged through flour-covered hands and shared laughter.

Becoming extra playful, Janie throws a ball of dough at me. The flour particles form a puff of cloud. As I throw one back in laughter, Janie ducks, hitting Xander square in the chest. Imogen and Janie burst into laughter as Xander pats his shirt down. His facial expression remains stoic, revealing no trace of emotion or excitement. His lips form a thin line.

With the tantalizing aroma of our cooking wafting through the air, we pause for a moment to admire our handiwork. Janie then wipes down the table tops as Imogen, and I place the last of the cooking in the oven.
