Chapter 18:

Ch. 19 / 105 Feb 17, 2026

Ava

I want to cry. I hate to see the state Elena is now. I’m pained I can’t do a thing to make her feel better or rectify the mistakes.

I park in front of my mansion, it’s black out nobody get to know if I’m in the car or not. I couldn’t wait to be in my room before I let it out and free myself from the tightness in my chest.

I pull out my phone from my bag, I want to check on Elena if she is better now. I cannot help her, but all I can do now at this point is check up on her and give her the shoulder to cry on. When I do that, I feel a little better. She doesn’t pick, then I send a text instead.

*Elena Deloris*: Best, are you okay ? You can talk to me if you need to. You will feel better.

I wait for a reply for the next five minutes but she doesn’t. Maybe she’s asleep.

I grab my bag as I step out of my car.

The house is quiet, but I don’t look around my environment. My mind is not settle yet, all I have in mind now is Elena and Diana would is in coma.

My family is rich and my parents are always busy. At least that’s what they tell you anytime you need to speak with them.

My two parents are rich, actually my mother has her wealth from her own family and dad worked hard for his. I’m not the only child, I have a brother and he is out of the country just as my parents does.

I’m always the one around or the one left alone, maybe that’s the reason they all spoil me with goodies including my elder brother.

He’s sweet and sweeter when he gives me update about how things are for him. I also do the same, maybe that is why he is the first person I asked what happened to Diana how she got in coma. I forgot he’s always been away he isn’t the right person to give the answer to my question but mom or dad.

Mom especially is never at home. Dad sometimes comes visiting, but good thing they are still together and happy as a couple.

I know I should have the answer, but I’m a student I don’t always stay at home. Even though my parents travel often they do come around once in a while, and last I checked mom was around that week Diana fell into a coma.

Diana is one of our house helper, but she is closer to me like a sister. I mean she does keep me company when the house get lonely and boring and when I’m not with Elena.

I cried when mom told me about it, but I didn’t care to know how she fell into coma. I was just overwhelmed in shock.

I enter into the living room then I see one of mom’s expensive bag on the couch. Mom is around? Smiles spreads on my thin lips as I hasten my step.

“ Beautiful Ferry is home!” I say it loud so she would hear me. I’m surprise she didn’t inform she was going to come today, just like she didn’t tell before she left. It has never been so, until the last week and today.

“ Honey, how are you?” the pink lip gloss shine on her lips as she parts her lips to let out a cute smile.

“ I miss you. Did you?” she ask, smiling as always. Ferry is a gorgeous woman, sometimes I want to snap a picture of her and go put it at the museum. She’s beautiful with her brown light her, always in those fitted elastic gowns on her. Like she is wearing now. Well I guess that’s where I get my beauty from, like mother like daughter.

“ I can bet my life on it, I did miss you.” I giggle. She’s the sweeter person you can find, when she heard about Diana’s situation she did the needful immediately, getting her a personal doctor and paying up for her treatment.

“ Well that just earned you a gift from me.” she says, holding my hands as she walks upstairs. I’m curious what the gift is but I don’t ask, I want her to show me. I can’t wait.

“ What is that mom?” I’m too curious, so I ask.

“ You have me here for a week, honey. I took a break just for you.” she smiles as we reach her bedroom, she push the door open and there is plenty of dresses I would like, actually it’s the brand.

“ Don’t joke with me Ferry? Are you serious?” I giggle, planting a kiss on her cheek. If it true then I don’t get to feel lonely here for a week.

She’s never been home for seven days round. I call her by her name, that’s what she wants. It sounds sweeter than ‘mom’.

“ You can do anything you want with me if I dare lie to my sweet daughter.” she smiles, pulling my cheek a bit. My mind trail to Elena all of a sudden. I wish she has a mom as mine, she wouldn’t have to feel that loneliness her dad left her. Avera makes it worse.

I have to go check on Diana, so I slip my fingers out of her hold. Since I have her for a week there is enough time to open the packages and gist with her.

I stand in front of the room my mother gave to Diana since she’s in coma. I open the door and she’s still the same way I have always seen her each time I check up on her.

I haven’t fully believed what clearly happened, but what my mother said she was cleaning the stairs when she mistakenly slipped off and fell down from the height.

It wasn’t the first time Diana was cleaning the stairs, I don’t understand how she was quite careless about the last.

“ How is she?” mom comes through the door unnoticed, I didn’t hear any sound of her approach.

“ She’s still the same mom.” I tell her in a very sad tone. She makes a sad face and grab my hands.

“ Come on, let’s leave her to the doctor. I’m sure he is taking proper care of her.” she smiles, taking me out of the room but something in me doesn’t want to leave yet. To leave Diana alone in the room yet.
