Elena
The weather feels so hot today. I don’t know if it’s the weather but nothing has been cool for me. My heart hasn’t gotten enough space to breathe and I haven’t had enough oxygen in my lungs. It’s tight.
Maybe because I’ve been crying non-stop.
I feel like the most terrible daughter on earth, maybe I am. I’m standing in front of the place my father was buried two years ago, I see all the flowers I lay on him every year all withered.
The wind is very wild. It blows my red hair across my face, sticking to my face because of the tears. “Dad..” I call, dragging a shaky breathe as I try to speak.
“ I’m here Love, your little angel is here,” I let out a small smile parting my lips when I say out the name he always calls me.
“ Happy belated birthday, Love.” I smile, the wind blows my hair again, it feels like he is standing beside me. My heart is melting.
“ Elena keep being like the fish. Keep swimming. Keep Being happy.” I hear his words echoing in my head again and my eyes starts getting itchy and painful with tears.
Yonkers is where we live in New York. There is a river at the end of Yonkers and that place is dad and I favourite spot. We usually go fishing every Saturday evening.
Prior To Two Years Ago.
The sun is a little friendly because the sunset goes than in the next few minutes. I’m in my pink bikini, sitting on the other side of the yacht while dad is on the other edge.
He smiles as he holds out his net trying to throw it into the water, but he doesn’t yet until I’m done swimming. We are here for fishing and usually to have fun and chit chat. He is my only friend I have in this world.
I come with my bikini every Saturday evening because I swim before we start to fish, that’s like a regular thing for I and dad. He always creates the time to spend Saturday evening with me.
I wear my goggles as I prepare to jump into the water. I set my mind free from any thoughts as I let myself fall into the water.
I go deep and bring myself up on the water after some seconds. “ Does it feel good Angel?” dad smiles, his full beautiful teeth expose. He’s the most handsome man have ever seen. He is more handsome when his black hair is taken away from his face by the breeze.
“ I feel good dad!” I shout through soft laughter as I dip myself down the water again. Coming up at the other side beside dad.
“ Elena keep being like the fish. Keep swimming. Keep being happy.” he say to me as I come closer to him, my wet red hair is dripping water on my face, my lips is wet and cold, it feels fucking good! When with dad I feel like the happiest person on earth!
“ We will keep swimming LOVE.” I say the name I call him boldly and we both let out soft laughter from our lips.
I go back to swimming. Throwing myself like a fish, deep inside into the water. I swim all I want, till I get tired and hop out of the water.
Back To Present.
“Daddy I don’t know if I’m swimming anymore,” I’m crying, falling on my kneels. “ Dad, I think I’m drowning. I’m tired. I’m drowning without you by my side, dad.” my tears echoes in the empty yard, the breeze doesn’t stop going fast.
My chest starts getting tighter, I’m touching where he is buried and I feel some peace. Being here is better than being in school or at home. I’m feeling this peace again and I miss him so much.
After letting out the cry and speaking out my mind to dad. I feel a little better, but I still miss him very much. Makes me cry when I think of it.
I wipe the tears off my cheek after dropping the fresh flowers I brought along with me. I reach for my phone to check what the time says, when Ava’s call coming popping on my phone screen.
I couldn’t pick the call as I let my phone open properly. I haven’t check my phone since last night at the party, even when Ella gave me my phone. My phone is on now and I see so many messages from Ava and two missed calls.
Damn. I didn’t hear from her since yesterday, I’m sure I must have made her so worried.
I dial her number to call her back.
“Elena!” I hear her scream. Panic fills her voice.
“Ava..” I breathe a little.
“Elena where the heck have you been?” she’s really panicking and all I do is shut my eyes and let out a calm breathe.
“I’m sorry Ava. Something happened, I couldn’t find you last night.” I say, breathing slowly in mid-air.
“ Hey, wanna talk? I heard what the Quads did to you. I'm sorry, Elena.” she calmly speaks now.
“ Sure, I wanna talk. I really need my best friend now.” my voice sound broken like another tears wanna escape my lips, but I quickly gulp it down and take my face away from the phone.
“ Where are you? I’m coming to pick you up.” she ask urgently. I tell her where I am and she hangs up the call as she starts to be on her way.
I smile. I feel a little lucky having Ava in my life, she’s always there when you need someone to talk, to hug or to kiss. She’s the best.
After she hangs up the call, I go to check my phone as I see messages popping up.
I see Ava’s four messages, she sent like four hours ago and it’s already noon now.
*Ava Marcus* : Elena, Jezz where are you?
I breathe out again.
*Ava Marcus* : Elena I’m so sorry. Please replyyyy.
*Ava Marcus* : Elena I know you want to talk. Let’s see at the sport complex. Males and Females are playing football today. We have football Match Elena, see you there.
*Ava Marcus* : Elena, you might not play. But let’s talk. I’m so sorry.
I smile after reading all her messages. She’s so sweet like a cat.
I forgot it’s Saturday and we always have football to play. Both males and females match.
I text back so I wouldn’t leave her message on read.
*Elena Deloris* : I’m lucky to have you Ava Marcus, See soon. Drive up here quickly, I’m waiting!
