Brenna
Forming a circle, the sticks moved slowly onto the mat and disappeared in the mist, but shapes started forming in the mat. The mist cleared, and the image of two men appeared. One was clearly the White Alpha with snow-white hair, even though he looked young. But the other man had his back to me, out of view. It was as if I were an outsider looking into the scene at an angle.
“Why are we taking down the High Claw Pack?” the man asked. I didn’t recognize the man’s voice as I listened.
The Alpha’s eyes were hard as he glared at the man I couldn’t see clearly. “Cale doesn’t want to work with the vampires and the other species.” The Alpha looked down at a map lying on the table. “We’ll attack tomorrow at noon. They won’t expect it, and we’ll take them by surprise.”
My father’s name was Cale Sutton. This was the night before they attacked our Pack.
“Alpha....” The man cleared his throat as if afraid to ask.
The White Alpha let out an exasperated breath as he rolled his eyes. “What is it? I have much to do before tomorrow.”
“Well....” The man walked to the side, and he also had white hair. It must be a trait of all members of this bloodline. I was surprised that this man would have a reason to fear his Alpha. He squared his shoulders and raised his chin, looking into his eyes. “Alpha, as you know, we just moved into the area. Are you sure it’s wise to make enemies of the other Alpha’s so quickly?”
The Alpha slammed his fist down onto the table as he glared at him. “All will come to know who the Alpha Supreme is. If they do not comply, then they will no longer be a part of the Alliance. And they. Will. Pay.”
The mist covered the screen, and the image vanished.
I took a deep breath, unable to believe what I had just heard. “He’s new in town and looking to make a name for himself. He called himself the Alpha Supreme, and he mentioned the Alliance.” I shook my head in disbelief as I paced the floor. “I’ve never heard of either before—”
Magenta was in front of me in a flash, moving at lightning speed. She placed her hands on my shoulders as she looked into my eyes. “Brenna, don’t do anything rash—”
My head snapped up as I tried to make sense of it all. “What is an Alpha Supreme? And an Alliance?”
Magenta lowered her hands from my shoulders. “An Alpha Supreme is an Alpha in charge of an area. Regions in the world are divided into sections, not just here in the United States. An Alpha Supreme is chosen to oversee all the Packs.” She shook her head as she let out a deep breath. “Usually, it’s the strongest Alpha in the area.”
“Well, he may have been the ‘Alpha Supreme’ where he came from, but not here. Adan is way stronger than he is—”
She gave me a sympathetic look. “He was the one who took you to Fletcher. Isn’t he?”
I nodded. “I have to warm Adan.”
I headed out the door and down the hallway as my guards followed.
“Brenna, where are you going?” Magenta asked, quickly catching up.
I shrugged. “Well, since Adan ate breakfast downstairs, I assume he’s still there.”
Magenta nodded, letting out a deep breath. “There is a quicker way to find him.”
I stopped and stared at her. “How?”
Magenta chuckled, one corner of her lips curling into a sly smile. “Take my hand and find out.”
“What about my guards?”
She shrugged. “Wait here, men.”
They looked at each other, and their eyes were wide.
“Sorry, but no can do,” one of the guards replied. “The Alpha gave strict orders that we are not to leave the Queen’s side.”
“Then hold on and do not let go. Trust me, you do not want to be caught in the Space-Time Continuum.”
“The what?” I asked, more confused than ever.
She shrugged. “They’re pathways that bind us together in time and space.” Magenta let out an exasperated breath. “Taking everyone will zap more of my energy but grab hands and let’s go.”
After we held hands and formed a circle, Magenta yelled, “Accipe nos Adan!”
Suddenly we were moving without being moved, and wind blew past as we zoomed through what looked to be a transparent tunnel. Stars and dark matter were visible on the other side, and we stopped a moment later. I smirked, hoping that Adan wasn’t doing anything that he wasn’t supposed to be doing because he was about to get busted.
“What is going on?” Adan jumped to his feet, staring at Magenta and then at me. He was sitting with two women, having breakfast, along with other men and women.
Silence filled the main dining hall.
“Adan, I have to speak with you... now.”
He pursed his lips as the women on either side of him glared at me.
I rosed my chin at them both. “What are you two looking at?”
Everyone at the table laughed, and the two women turned their heads, averting their eyes.
“Come with me.” Adan took my arm and headed toward the door as my guards followed.
“Let go of me, you brute!” I yelled, trying to pull away but to no avail. I couldn’t wait until the day I learned magic. One day, Adan was going to regret manhandling me like this.
Adan pushed through one of the massive double doors and let go of me abruptly. “What is it?”
“First….” I placed my hands on my hips, glaring at him. “Who were those women you were with?”
He rolled his eyes. “They’re friends—”
“Well, now that I’m here, you’ll have no more women—”
“Why? Are you jealous?” He arched an eyebrow, infuriating me to no end.
But I quickly calmed myself. “Adan, we’ll talk about this later—”
“No, we’ll talk about it now!” He scoffed. “First, Magenta throws me out of your room—”
“Because you handcuffed me to my bed!”
The two guards looked at us and blinked, and then at each other.
Adan rolled his eyes as he grabbed my arm again and started down the hallway with me in tow. “Stay here!” he ordered the guards. He led me into a room and slammed the door closed. “Never broadcast our personal life to everyone—”
“You started it!” I paced, willing myself to get back on track. Although he was a brute, I didn’t want him to die. “Adan, will you stop for a minute? I have something important to tell you!”
“And it couldn’t wait until I went back upstairs?” He shook his head in disbelief. “No! You come down here and accuse me of sleeping with two women—”
“I did no such thing!” I bit my lower lip, willing myself to focus. “Adan, listen! I know who the White Alpha is!”
“So do I!” he yelled back. “But I don’t know his name yet. I’ll need to speak with Fletcher.”
“Well, I don’t know his name either, but—”
Adan shook his head in disbelief as he stormed out of the room.
“I know what he’s planning to do!” I yelled, stopping Adan in his tracks. “Please! You have to listen to me!”
My guards looked at the walls, the ceiling, the floor… virtually everywhere but at us.
Adan took another deep breath and stormed back to me, closing the door behind us. “Tell me.”
“First of all, do not ever walk away from me during a conversation—”
“Are you going to tell me or not?”
I scoffed, shaking my head as I took him in. “And you’re supposed to be my Mate? Unbelievable!” I started to walk out, but he caught my arm.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Adan yelled as he stepped closer. “You’re the one who won’t agree to be my Mate—”
“I never said that!” I cut him off. “Please! Try to focus!”
He stared at me for a long moment, clenching his jaw. “Tell me.”
“I told Magenta I wanted to know why my Pack was attacked, and she waved her hand, and this apparatus appeared. Anyway—”
He rolled his eyes. “Get to the point.”
“Stop treating me that way!” I let out a deep breath. “Anyway, he said he attacked the High Claw Pack because my father didn’t want to join an Alliance.”
“A what?” A crease formed between his eyes. Finally, I had his attention.
“It must be an organization made up of all supernatural creatures,” I explained. “Anyway, he said that he’s the Alpha Supreme and that if an Alpha doesn’t comply, they're no longer a part of the Alliance. He wiped out my whole Pack because my father didn’t comply. I’m sure he’ll do the same thing here.”
“Are you sure about this?”
I nodded. “I heard it with my own ears. Anyway, he’s going to come for you soon.”
Adan stared at me hard. “And that’s why he killed your father? Because he wouldn’t comply and acknowledge him as this… Alpha Supreme?”
I shook my head. “Yes. That and because my father wouldn’t join the Alliance. But watch your back. He fancies himself the Alpha Supreme in this region. And just like two bullies on the same block, eventually, you two are going to fight. He will come for you soon.”
He slowly backed me up against the wall, placing his hands on either side of me as his lips curled into a sexy smile. “So, you were worried about me, huh?”
I pushed against his muscled chest, but he didn’t move an inch. Then I stopped fighting, defeated as I looked into his eyes. “Yes.”
