Third person's POV
Over a month had passed in the blink of an eye, and life on the island had been peaceful, simple, and beautiful.
Tabitha's health had noticeably improved.
Although the wolfsbane in her body was like an undetonated bomb yet to be eliminated, compared to her previous state of being on the brink of death, there was more hope and anticipation now.
During this time, her relationship with Derek had significantly improved, becoming closer and more harmonious.
Due to Tabitha's limited energy, most of her time was spent with Ayla and Derek playing together, which inevitably led to some close contact between the three.
At this moment, Ayla wanted to go to the water park.
Unable to resist her, Tabitha agreed reluctantly.
Tabitha sat by the pool without entering the water, so Ayla turned to Derek for help, "Wilmot, please."
Derek had been avoiding water activities these days because he had applied a special plant juice to his body, which could temporarily change his skin color without harming the skin.
However, it had a side effect. It couldn't come into contact with water over a large area, or it would fade.
Moreover, one of the reasons he could successfully conceal his identity was due to the change in skin color. Most importantly, during the period when he learned about Tabitha's supposed death, he lost a lot of weight due to excessive sadness.
Tabitha had lived with him for several years, and her impression of him was still based on his previous physique.
So, by changing his habits, physique, skin color, accent, and appearance, he could deceive others.
Tabitha was well aware of the scars on his body, and if he went into the water and exposed them, Tabitha might very well guess his true identity.
Derek stood at a distance, quietly observing the simple interactions between Ayla and Tabitha.
Ayla knew Tabitha wasn't well, so she didn't play too excitedly.
Even Tabitha looked at Derek and said, "Would you like to play with Ayla for a while?"
Derek pretended to check his watch and replied, "I ordered some fruit this morning. It should be delivered soon. I'm going to check on it."
Tabitha found it a bit strange. Wilmot never refused any of her requests before.
She thought back and realized that, except for the night he saved her, he never approached the water, always staying far away. Could it be that he was afraid of water?
Everyone has their weaknesses, and Tabitha didn't ask further.
She continued to play with Ayla by the water, using water guns. Although Ayla was a bit disappointed, she quickly got back into the game with Tabitha.
After playing for a while, Ayla picked a flower and gently placed it behind Tabitha's ear.
"Mommy, you're so beautiful," Ayla praised.
After more than a month, a layer of dense, short hair had grown on Tabitha's head. Although it was far from her previous long, flowing hair, it was no longer bald.
Tabitha smiled and wove a beautiful garland for Ayla using the flowers. When she saw Ayla's expectant eyes, the little face of Kyrian suddenly appeared in her mind.
A long time ago, that child had also made a garland for her.
"Mommy?" Ayla tilted her head, looking at Tabitha, who then snapped back to reality and smiled.
"Nothing, let me put it on for you."
Her mind, however, kept lingering on what Derek had once said about Kyrian being her child. She shook her head, thinking it was impossible.
At that time, Derek must have seen her critically ill and said it on purpose.
Dismissing the thought, Tabitha put the garland on Ayla.
Ayla skipped around the pool happily, but in the next moment, she slipped and fell into the deep end meant for adults.
Seeing this, Tabitha didn't hesitate to jump in after her, calling out, "Ayla, don't be afraid. I'm coming."
She had just held Ayla and was about to bring Ayla ashore when an accident occurred.
Tabitha, who had been resting well and had even stopped exercising recently, suddenly encountered cold water, causing her legs to cramp.
A strong sense of discomfort came from her legs, just like the day she fell into the sea while pregnant. A sense of helplessness washed over her again.
Ayla...
With a loud splash, a dark figure suddenly dove in.
