Tabitha's POV
I had half-hoped Wilmot would bring Tucker back to me, but as night fell, there was no sign of him.
Oh well, I had already planned to leave Tucker in Theodora's care before my departure.
My own life has been one of constant wandering, unable to provide long-term care for him.
Moreover, I always felt like a harbinger of misfortune, with those around me often suffering because of me. It was better for everyone to keep their distance.
That was also why I wanted to distance myself from Orson and Theodora as soon as possible.
I truly didn't want anyone else to get hurt because of me.
John, Joanna, and Tucker were all clear examples, weren't they?
The housekeeper had to leave early due to a family matter.
Now, I was left alone in the vast yard.
The solar-powered lights in the yard turned on automatically, casting light on my face. Inside the house, the lights were off, and I sat at the boundary of the light and the darkness.
Tucker used to be full of energy, running around the yard every day.
He liked playing his acrobatic games or making the dog toy's bell ring incessantly.
But now, it was just me, alone, my shadow stretched long under the light.
A cold wind blew, and I glanced at the lights hanging on the tree branches. The decorative tassels were swaying in the wind, looking particularly desolate.
I couldn't help but mock myself. Being alone wasn't so bad. At least, I wouldn't be a trouble to others, nor would I bring misfortune to anyone.
I stood up and walked towards the house. Darkness enveloped me like a giant beast.
This was the path I had chosen, and no matter what, I wouldn't regret it.
These past few days, I had started doing some simple exercises.
Although my body would feel uncomfortable when I made bigger movements, I endured and persisted.
Seven days later, Orson and Theodora came to the dock to see me off.
It was already spring. Everything was full of vitality and revival. I actually liked this city quite a bit.
Even the sea in front of me looked like a kind and gentle mother, soothing her children softly.
I wore a large sun hat, covering myself from head to toe, only revealing a small part of my face.
I was 5 feet 6 inches tall, but I weighed only 85 pounds, really thin and pitiable.
Theodora was full of reluctance, constantly wiping her tears with her hand.
She actually understood me very well.
If the Black Thorn found out that they helped me fake my death, they would be furious and take it out on the Weaver family and Orson's pack.
Since they couldn't keep me, the best thing for them to do was to support me and understand me, allowing me to live freely.
Theodora said with a crying voice, "Tabitha, you must be careful on the road and remember to contact us often."
"Okay," I reached out from under the hat and gently wiped her tears, comforting her, "You two should live a good life. I will never forget your great kindness to me in my life."
Theodora sobbed, "We just hope you can live happily. You've had a tough life."
"It's okay, I will be careful," I answered softly.
At this time, Orson handed me a card, saying, "You can't use your own money now, take this card."
I wanted to refuse at first, but then I thought about the unknown things I might encounter in the future, so I had to accept it.
"I will pay you back in the future," I said very seriously.
Orson gently patted my shoulder and said, "As long as you live well, that's the best return for us. After this parting, I don't know when we can meet again. Take care of yourself and remember to take the medicine I prepared for you on time. Also, I've already talked to the captain and crew on the ship, they won't make things difficult for you. But the journey at sea is long. It will take more than two months."
"It's okay, I've already endured the tough days, this is nothing. Well, the time is almost up, I'll go on the ship first," I said.
"Tabitha, wish you a safe journey."
"See you later."
I took one last look at them, then turned and walked towards the ship.
