Tabitha's POV
Right after I finished speaking, I felt Derek's hands on my waist tighten.
I continued hastily, "I want you to back me up."
In the next second, he kissed my lips.
It was a fierce kiss, leaving me no room to escape.
All of a sudden, Alvin's voice came from outside. "Miss Sutton, Alpha Derek is in the middle of something."
She was back already? How come?
She hated my guts. If she saw me with Derek, she'd definitely turn the Greenwood Group upside down.
I was very clear about my goal here. Daphne mustn't stand in my way and ruin my plan.
A bit panicking, I pushed Derek's chest.
Too bad that he seemed no intention of letting go of me, though she was about to barge in.
Outside, she said impatiently, "What? Do I need permission to see my fiancé? Move!"
My heart was beating so fast, and I felt butterflies in my stomach. I tried to break free from Derek's embrace with all my might.
Derek was crazy! Since he had already agreed to marry Daphne, why wouldn't he leave me alone? What was he up to?
If he really loved her, why was he still so reluctant to let me off?
I said, lowering my voice, "Derek, are you crazy?"
Smiling, he looked at me with interest.
Flustered, I wandered around the office, pulling open the shelves of the bookcase or crawling on the floor trying to hide under the sofa.
After looking around, I realized that though his office was large, there was nowhere I could hide myself.
I couldn't help but whine in a low voice, "Why don't you have a suite office?"
"What?"
"If Daphne sees me here, you're gonna be in great trouble."
"I don't have to hide you from her," he said unhappily.
I glared at him. "Really? You think she's OK with me being here? I'm looking out for both you and me."
Of course, I was looking out mostly for myself. I didn't wanna get kicked out before finding out anything.
We heard their arguing voices coming from the door. Seemed Daphne was about to burst through the door the next second.
Derek got up and pushed aside the bookshelf, revealing a room where he could rest.
I walked in at once.
Meanwhile, Daphne, who had been dealing with Alvin, pushed open the door.
I looked outside through the crack and could see them clearly.
Daphne scanned the office quickly and then looked at Derek, who was sitting behind his desk and reading files with his pen in hand.
He slowly lifted his head, saying obviously impatiently, "What are you doing here?"
"To see you. Then I'll be back."
She walked towards him and then coldly said, "Derek, what happened to your lips?"
"Bitten."
"Bitten by who?" Daphne sounded somehow uneasy.
Derek's voice was still calm. "Me. Who else do you think?"
The coldness in his voice was so blatant that those who didn't know wouldn't believe they were an engaged couple for even just a second.
Sounded like they were strangers.
"Sorry. I was nosy. By the way, I made these pastries. Why don't you give it a go?"
Daphne took the pastries out of the box and placed them on the desk. Derek glanced at them.
Then she said fawningly, "I'll go make you some coffee."
Weird. They didn't strike me as a couple at all.
From the way Daphne served Derek, I felt that she was more like an Omega trying hard to please him.
Derek picked up one of the cakes, took a bite, and put it back.
Holding the coffee, Daphne said disappointedly, "You don't like it?"
Derek said, "It's good. I'm just not hungry."
She put down the coffee and didn't insist on him trying more.
Then she said, "I'll wait for you to get off work."
My heart skipped a beat. How was I supposed to leave then?
Please, Derek. Say no.
Unfortunately, he said without even glancing at her, "Suit yourself."
Hearing that, she stood by the bookcase and glanced at the books.
Then she looked out of the French window for a while.
The office was filled with silence. It was Derek who said something first after a while. "I had two teachers teach Kyrian pronunciation and practice writing."
I was speechless. Kyrian was just one year old, and he was starting school? Could Derek be any more heartless?
Daphne asked cautiously, "Isn't he a bit too young for that?"
"No," Derek said indifferently. "Reid can start after three."
In the next second, the door was pushed open. It was Rebecca.
Displeased, Daphne said, "Who said you could come in without knocking? Don't you have any idea who's inside? You clean Mr. Greenwood's office when he's having a visitor? Do rules mean nothing to you?"
Hearing the sound, I quickly looked up to see Rebecca.
Her body was stooped, and she looked very thin.
"Sorry. I saw on Mr. Greenwood's schedule that he had no business to attend to this afternoon, so I came to clean his office. Miss Sutton, I didn't expect you to be here."
I was surprised. So, Rebecca knew all of Derek's schedule?
Before Daphne could continue to throw a tantrum, Derek said, "I gave Rebecca permission to clean my office. You've got a problem with that?"
"I see. I didn't know," Daphne said.
Derek didn't bother to explain. He turned to Rebecca. "Rebecca, go ahead."
"OK."
Rebecca started to do the cleaning.
I cursed Derek harshly in silence.
"He let Daphne wait for him here and Rebecca clean his office? Has he forgotten that I'm here? What is he up to?"
On second thought, why would Rebecca clean his office now? I couldn't come up with any reasonable explanation at all.
