Tabitha's POV
I enjoyed the furious, embarrassed look on Sonia's face.
Then I chuckled, saying, "I learn from the best. You messed with me first. Or I wouldn't show them to anyone. After all, it'd do me no good. Too bad that you're so heartless."
I sighed, deliberately looking sad, "You slept with Mr. Watson and made everyone think it was me. You know what? I've got no interest in being the scapegoat."
Then I knocked on the desk. "What do you suggest I should do?"
"Tabitha, you see, it was just a slip of the hand. I had no idea this would happen. How about this? You'll get a share of the deal this time," Sonia immediately said fawningly.
I was just bluffing. In fact, I thought it was the one behind the scenes rather than Sonia who did this.
The one was always lurking in the dark, spying on me 24/7.
I snorted, "You really think I give a damn about that?"
"What do you want then? What's done is done. It's too late to withdraw the photos."
"What other photos did you take?" What I was more concerned about was whether Derek and I were taken photos of.
"What else could I take besides those two photos? I would have sent them out already if I had taken any other photos."
She sighed, "I was angry and just wanted to get it outta my system. I didn't expect this to happen. Do you want me to make a clarification?"
"Clarification?" I sneered. "How's that gonna help? They'll think I'm guilty and in cahoots with you. Tell your man to give me all the other photos, or I'll tell everyone you were the one who slept with Mr. Watson."
"What... What photos? I told you. I would have sent them out already if I had had any."
I approached closer to her. "Really? Or you don't have them in your hands?"
"Tabitha, what do you mean?"
"Tell me. Who gave you the photos?"
After spending so much time with Derek, I became somehow as intimidating as him.
As I approached step by step, Sonia obviously became very nervous.
"I..."
"I only have limited patience. I'm just a newcomer here anyway, and at most, I'll get fired. But you're gonna end up much worse."
I put my arms around her shoulders, leaned down, and said next to her ear, "What would Derek think of you if those photos came out and he knew how you got the project? If this goes viral online, the Greenwood Group's reputation will be totally ruined. Don't you think?"
She was trembling, and I pushed her even more, saying, "If you get fired, you'll never get a higher position than this, will you? What a pity. How long did it take you to become Group C's leader? Will you ever be able to land on a company this size as the Greenwood Group again?"
"Stop! Stop!" Sonia's face was pale, and even her voice trembled. "I'll tell you, OK?"
I smiled, "Now we're talking. I gotta know who wants me outta the picture, right? You don't have to be someone else's scapegoat."
She took out her phone and pointed at a profile picture I had never seen. "It was him."
"Who is he?" I was somewhat surprised. I figured it would be someone from the Secretary Department.
"The head of the Marketing Department. I don't know him at all and felt weird when he sent me those photos."
I looked through their chat record. They only had occasional communication during work hours, and that was all. Other than that, they never chatted. Obviously, they weren't close.
My heart sank. Seemed things at the Greenwood Group were much more complicated than I had expected.
Sonia looked at me cautiously. "Tabitha, I've told you everything I know. I didn't lie to you. I admit that I wanted to get back at you and use public opinion to drive you away, but that's all. I'm not the one behind this. Everyone knows about your photos in the blink of an eye, and that's beyond my power. Please believe me. It'll do my group no good if this goes big. I simply wanted to vent my anger. I had no intention of losing my career."
"I know."
"Then ... about the photos you took?"
I coldly said, "I won't leave the company for now. Don't cross me again, and you'll be fine. Or I'm gonna make sure you end up embarrassed and get kicked out!"
I didn't have any photos, in fact. I was just bluffing.
As it turned out, she surrendered pretty easily. Guessed she wouldn't make it through any kind of interrogation.
Intimidated by my so-called proof, I figured she'd keep her head down for a while.
Although I still didn't know who the person behind the scenes was, at least I knew I had come to the right place.
The person must have been hiding in the Greenwood Group and knew my whereabouts inside and out.
Now that I had a rough direction, I was clearer in my goal.
Seemed I ought to make a detailed plan to lure that person out.
Everyone in Group C was overjoyed the entire day because we had sealed the deal with Harry, who was a lot to handle.
Until an unexpected person arrived.
"Gosh! The future Mrs. Greenwood? For real?"
Hearing the name, I looked up at once.
Those gossipy ones had rushed to the door to greet her while muttering non-stop. Someone said, "Mrs. Greenwood made a cake for everyone in the company. I saw her from a distance when I went to the bathroom. She's so gentle and sweet."
Someone echoed, "I bet she is. Only a gentle, generous lady deserves to be Mr. Greenwood's wife!"
Daphne was here. "Avoid her," my instinct told me.
