Tabitha's POV
I thought I'd be alone in here for a long time.
Surprisingly, I heard something after a short while.
Several people rushed in, dropped something, and left.
Listening to the quiet breathing, I knew that another person had been brought here.
Soon, the person woke up.
"What the hell is this place? Do you have any idea who I am? I am Luna of the Black Thorn Pack! You've got some balls kidnapping me! Derek ain't gonna let this slide!"
Hearing Daphne's screechy voice, I couldn't help but frown.
I didn't expect she would be kidnapped, too.
"Help! Someone! Help!"
"Save your strength. If shouting works, there'll be no kidnappers in the world," I couldn't help but say.
Daphne instantly snapped, "Tabitha! You bitch! I knew it was you! You're jealous that I'm marrying Derek, so you pull this dirty trick to..."
Her rant got me chuckling. "Seriously, are you delusional or just stupid? Till this point, you still don't have a clue what's going on. Honestly, I'm dying to know what Derek sees in you."
Daphne started cursing right away, and the longer she cursed, the weirder I felt.
I knew Derek.
Nothing about Daphne was his type, neither appearance nor personality. If he wanted to piss me off by being with someone else, he had millions of choices. Choosing Daphne didn't seem like something he'd do.
A round of applause rang out, shutting Daphne up.
"Fascinating. You're at each other's throats." It was that voice again.
Daphne said, "It's you? The one on the phone with me?"
I immediately focused and paid attention to their conversation.
Sure enough, Daphne had been in cahoots with this person.
Seemed they were together behind a lot of things against me.
Daphne snapped, "What's wrong with you? This is the plan you told me before? I'm getting engaged today, for fuck's sake!
"Let go of me! Now! Deal with that bitch however you want. Derek's waiting for me! I gotta go back!"
"Go back?" the person sneered.
Then he said word by word, "Only one of you gets to walk out today."
Terrified, Daphne immediately asked, "Wh-what about the other one then?"
Rolling my eyes, I thought, 'Is she brainless or scared outta her wits?'
'The answer's self-evident. Given what happened to Vilda, the person would have no problem doing the same thing to me and her.'
"Who knows?" The person's voice was utterly soft yet wicked. "Being devoured by fish or ... dismembered."
"What do you mean? Didn't you say you wanna workwith me?"
"Work with you?"
The person sneered, "Who the fuck do you think you are?"
Daphne's voice started to tremble. "You... Do you know who I am? My mate's Derek. If you dare to hurt me, he's not gonna let you off the hook!"
In the next second, she let out a scream of pain.
Obviously, the person made a move.
"I'm warning you! Before you lay your hands on me, you better think twice. The consequences would be more than you could handle..."
She didn't get to finish. Seemed the person exerted more strength.
"Say that to yourself. You're in no place to threaten me. See? Tabitha is smarter than you. She knows better than to provoke me."
" Your target's not just Tabitha, but both of us?"
"Obviously."
I guessed there were only two possibilities. This guy was either a love rival hating both me and Daphne or Derek's enemy looking to blackmail him.
Either way, I would probably die here.
As I was pondering, Daphne lost her cool. "Please! Let go of me! I don't wanna die! I've got two kids! I can't die!" she begged.
Then, she suggested, "Kill Tabitha! She's Derek's ex-wife and the love of his life."
Hearing her mention "the love of his life" felt like a punch to the gut.
I never thought I'd hear that from her, who despised me the most.
The person snorted, obviously disdainful. "You expect me to believe that? If she's the love of his life, why would he get engaged with you?"
"I mean it. Even though Derek and I are getting engaged, he doesn't love me at all."
"It doesn't make sense. If he isn't doing this because of love, then what's the reason?" the person wondered.
"Cuz I gave birth to his kids. He had to do so,"Daphne blurted out.
"You know, you don't have to be so pessimistic. Your lives are in his hands."
Daphne asked, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You love choosing between A and B, right? I might as well do you a favor today. You know, I'm very curious..."
The person paused before continuing word by word, "If the same thing happened, would Derek still make the same choice?"
Knowing what the person was up to, I widened my eyes, my heart racing.
The person whispered, "Don't be afraid. I'm just gonna play a game with you. A game of ... life and death."
While Daphne was panicking, I kept my cool, for I knew Derek's choice would be the same.
Every time I closed my eyes, the scene of Derek leaving me for Daphne that day would emerge in my mind.
It haunted me like a nightmare for a whole year. AndI'd only just started to move on.
"Why..." I murmured.
