Chapter 538: I Want To See Your Grandpa
Bianca remembered clearly. A long time ago, on his birthday, Dave had proposed to her in a small church. He didn’t have a ring then, so she had wrapped this very necklace around her finger, turning it into a ring.
Time had passed so quickly. In just a blink, they had gone through so much together. Now, it was Dave’s turn to turn the red diamond necklace into a ring. It felt like they were back in that church again.
Dave’s gentle voice brushed against her ear as he asked the same question once more. “Bianc, will you marry me?”
Bianca looked at him and smiled. “Yes, I will.”
A moment later, Dave leaned down and kissed her forehead. That soft kiss said it all.
“I respect your promise to Blake,” he whispered. “We’ll get married when he comes back. And I’ll give you the most beautiful wedding.”
Bianca suddenly felt the urge to cry. Only she and Dave knew how hard their journey had been. She had once thought she might never get the chance to marry him. But fate had finally shown them mercy. This moment had come at last.
Still, the road ahead wouldn’t be easy.
Bianca pressed her lips together. Whatever came next, they had to face it together. She didn’t want to act on her own and make him worry again. This time, she wanted to talk things through. She looked up at him and asked, “What are your plans now?”
Dave regained his usual composure. A sharp look flashed in his eyes. He couldn’t let this go. Rupert had caused his parents’ deaths and hurt Bianca.
Dave hated him more than anyone. This time, he would make sure Rupert paid. He would crush everything Rupert had left—slowly and painfully.
“I’ll handle the rest,” Dave said. He didn’t want Bianca to get involved any further.
But Bianca couldn’t agree to that. She didn’t want him to carry everything on his own. Besides, there was something she needed to do herself—clear things up with Lucas. She was the only one who could do it.
Bianca looked straight at Dave and spoke without holding back. “Dave, I want to see your grandpa. I want to give the red diamond necklace back to him.”
Dave frowned a little when he heard Bianca. He looked confused. “This red diamond necklace is a gift from me. It stands for our love. It belongs to you.”
Bianca had expected him to say that. She was ready. “Dave, it’s just an object. What really matters are the feelings behind it. You’ve already shown me how you feel. That’s enough. I don’t care about the necklace. I care about your love.”
She gently untangled the necklace and picked it up. “It’s beautiful, yes. But even if it were just a simple ring made of grass, it would still mean the same to me. I know you understand. And isn’t this necklace the reason behind all the trouble? Your grandpa misunderstood me because of it. It’s time to clear that up.”
Dave stared at her, stunned. Her words were soft, but they struck deeply. He realized he had been too focused on the necklace itself.
Her smile, in that moment, outshone the red diamond.
“What matters are the real feelings behind it. We loved each other and that's enough for me.” Dave repeated Bianca’s words in his mind.
She was right. Rupert was able to cause so much trouble lately including the plane crash because of this red diamond necklace.
But this was what Bianca wanted. And if it mattered to her, then it mattered to him too.
As long as they were together, he could give her as many red diamond necklaces as she wanted. There was no need to hold on to this one.
With that thought, a small smile appeared on Dave’s face. His eyes softened, full of warmth.
“Okay,” he said gently. “I’ll take you to see him.”
Dave quickly called Wyatt and said, “Get in touch with the Evans Mansion. I need to see Lucas.”
“Boss, it’s already late. Lucas might be asleep. Are you sure you want to go now?”
“If we wait any longer, Rupert will act. Things are urgent. We don’t have time.”
“Got it. I’ll call right away.”
After the call, Dave looked at Bianca. He saw her sincerity. She gave him a small nod and a soft smile.
The two of them left Waterfront Apartments and made their way to Evans Mansion.
Lucas had just woken up from a coma that night. He was still very weak, and a private doctor was looking after him. Even though it was late, the lights in Evans Mansion were still on.
The butler, worried that Lucas might get upset seeing Dave, told Wyatt that Lucas was not feeling well and couldn’t meet anyone. Wyatt passed the message to Dave.
Dave remembered how bad Lucas’s coughing had been earlier. He felt a bit concerned, but there was no time to wait. If he didn’t act now, he’d lose control of the situation.
He tightened his fists and told Wyatt to head for Evans Mansion instead.
Four black vans surrounded Dave’s car. Each one was packed with secret bodyguards assigned to protect him and Bianca.
As soon as Dave arrived, the security guard quickly called the butler. The butler came out and blocked Dave at the entrance.
“Mr. Evans is already resting. Please come back in the morning. This can wait.”
Dave stared at him coldly.
“I need to see Grandpa tonight. It’s urgent. If you keep standing in my way, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
At that, Dave’s bodyguards moved in front of him, they looked fierce and threatening. They were ready for anything.
The butler didn’t flinch. He turned and called for the Evans family’s bodyguards to respond.
Lucas was lying in bed with his eyes closed. He heard some noise and asked the servant beside him, “What’s going on? Is someone outside?”
The servant walked to the window, opened the curtain, looked out, then came back and bowed.
“It looks like… your grandson, Dave. The butler stopped him at the door.”
Lucas’s eyes moved. He opened them a little and let out a soft sigh.
“Let him in.”
“Yes, sir.”
Just as things were about to get out of hand, a servant rushed over and whispered something to the butler.
The butler frowned, looked at Dave, then told the bodyguards to step back.
“Mr. Evans, please come in.”
Dave could tell this was Lucas’s order. He nodded and left the bodyguards outside. He entered the house with Wyatt.
The butler led them to Lucas’s bedroom door. He raised his hand and knocked gently.
A weak voice came from inside.
“Come in.”
