The hayloft feels like a cage designed by someone with a sick sense of humor. Four people, infinite emotional baggage, and enough tension to power a small city. Golden dust motes dance through afternoon light like they're mocking the gravity of this moment.
I sit on a hay bale across from them, back straight, hands folded. Not hiding. Not running. Just waiting.
If they wanted forgiveness, they were going to have to earn it.
I can feel their presence — Liam's desperate steadiness, Asher's barely contained intensity, Finn's restless energy that's lost all its usual playfulness.
"Jasmine." Liam's voice cuts through the silence. "We need you to understand—"
"Do you?" The words come out sharp. Good. "Because last I checked, talking wasn't exactly your strong suit when it actually mattered."
"That's fair," Asher says roughly. "But we're here now."
"And where exactly were you when my entire life exploded in front of half the music industry?" I meet their gazes with all the pain I've been carrying. "Where were you when I needed you most?"
Finn leans forward, his usual grin completely gone. "We were trying to fix it. We were—"
"You want to know what really broke me?" I looked between them. "It wasn't the photos. It wasn't even Adelyn's victory speech in that bathroom. It was knowing I'd warned you. For months. And you did nothing."
Silence.
"She's right." Liam's voice cracked. "You told us Adelyn was dangerous. You begged us to take it seriously. And we—"
"Sent her on a business trip," Asher finished, voice rough. "Called it handled. Patted you on the head and went back to our lives."
"We were arrogant," Finn said quietly. No charm, no deflection. "We thought we knew better. And you paid the price."
That admission hit different than anything else they could have said. This was the real apology. The one I'd needed.
"I've replayed that press conference a thousand times," Liam said, voice breaking. "Watching you run. Knowing I couldn't reach you. That I'd failed the one person who—" He stopped, jaw working. "I'm so sorry, Jasmine. I'm so fucking sorry."
"I keep thinking about all those texts you didn't answer," Finn added. "And I get it now. Why would you? We promised to protect you and then we just... didn't."
"I don't apologize well." Asher's jaw was tight. "But I was wrong. We all were. And I'll spend however long it takes proving I can do better."
I let their words settle. Felt the weight of them.
"Adelyn set the whole thing up," Finn continued. "Stalked you for weeks, documented everything, then sold you out for a paycheck."
"Where is she now?" The question slipped out before I could stop it.
"Gone." Asher's smile was sharp. "Fired on the spot. Escorted out in front of the whole office. Our lawyers are suing her for everything — defamation, invasion of privacy, corporate sabotage. She'll be lucky to get a job cleaning toilets after what we did to her career."
A flicker of satisfaction, quickly overshadowed by the ache in my chest.
"So you got your revenge. Good for you."
"This isn't about revenge," Liam said. "This is about you."
"Then why didn't you come after me sooner?" The question tore out of me. "Why didn't you fight for me when it actually mattered?"
Liam ran a hand through his hair, composure cracking. "Because we thought we were protecting you. We had legal scrub the story, filed lawsuits, buried the whole thing. We thought that was enough."
"But it wasn't," Asher added, heavy with regret. "Because while we were fighting behind closed doors, you were dealing with the fallout alone. We should've defended you publicly. Should've stood on that stage and told everyone exactly what you meant to us."
"What I meant to you?" I shook my head. "I felt like a mistake you had to erase."
"Why?" Liam's voice was fierce. "Why does it matter so much that we came?"
"Because I didn't think I mattered enough."
"Don't." The word came out raw. "Don't finish that thought."
"You were never 'just' anything," Asher said. "You're the woman we fell in love with. All of us."
The word hung in the air. Love.
"We didn't fall for some polished image," Finn added softly. "We fell for you. The woman who warns us about things we're too arrogant to see. The woman who walks away when we fail her instead of begging us to stay." He swallowed. "The woman who deserves so much better than what we gave her."
Finn reached into his jacket and pulled out a familiar velvet pouch. He didn't open it, just held it between his palms.
"We kept everything you left behind. Your dress, this, everything. Because we didn't know if we'd ever see you again."
The sight of that small bag made my throat close up. "You kept it?"
"Of course we kept it," Asher said roughly. "What did you think — that we'd toss it in the trash? That you meant so little?"
"I don't know what I thought. I was scared and humiliated and I needed to disappear before I completely lost myself."
"Do you know what it was like," Finn said, voice tight, "coming back to find your phone on the desk? Your dress folded like you were never coming back?"
"Maybe it would've been easier," I whispered. "For everyone."
"Don't." Liam's voice cut through. "Don't you dare say that."
"I don't know if I can trust you again," I said honestly. "You broke something. And it's going to take time to rebuild."
"We know," Liam said. "We're not asking you to forget. We're asking for a chance to prove we can be what you need."
"And if you can't?"
"Then we'll have earned whatever you decide." Asher's voice was quiet. "But we're asking you to let us try."
I looked at them — really looked. Three men who'd tracked me across the state. Who'd kept my things like treasures. Who'd finally, finally admitted what they'd done wrong.
Loving them was a risk. It had always been a risk.
But maybe I was done playing it safe.
"I'm not the same woman who left that bathroom," I said quietly. "I'm not going to disappear again when things get hard. But I'm also not going to pretend everything's fine when it isn't."
"We don't want you to," Liam said.
"What do you want?" Asher asked.
"I want to try. But on my terms." I held their gazes. "No more promises you can't keep. No more 'handling' things without actually handling them."
"Done," Finn said immediately.
"And if anyone comes after me again, I want to know about it. I want to be part of the solution, not just the person you're protecting."
"Done," Asher said.
I looked at Liam. He was watching me with those green eyes that had always seen too much.
"I love you," he said simply. "All of us do. And we'll spend as long as it takes proving it."
The tears came then — not from sadness, but from something that felt terrifyingly like hope.
I reached for Liam first, cupping his face as I kissed him with everything I had — all my fear and hope and desperate love. Then Asher, tasting the desperation on his lips. Finally Finn, who made a broken sound when my mouth found his.
My breath left me in a shaky exhale that felt like rebirth.
"Take me home," I whisper against Finn's lips, choosing them fully and finally, choosing love over fear for the first time in my goddamn life.
