Three Alpha Mates

Chapter 28

Ch. 28 / 30 Apr 13, 2026

The morning sun filters through Ryder's chamber windows as he stands before the massive oak desk, shoulders set with determination. I watch him from the doorway—my third mate, my king, the man who nearly died never knowing what the Goddess had planned for us all.

"I've made my decision," Ryder announces, turning to face Nathan and Luca who sit tensely on the leather couch. His silver eyes blaze with conviction. "We'll perform the wedding ceremony publicly. I'll inform the entire court about our bond—all of it."

Nathan's jaw clenches. "Ryder, the political ramifications—"

"I'm King," Ryder cuts him off, authority ringing in every word. "The curse that plagued my bloodline for generations is broken. I won't hide what the Moon Goddess has blessed, not when I've spent my whole life thinking I'd die without ever knowing this." His hand finds mine, fingers intertwining. "Not when she's given me the impossible."

"The conservative packs will revolt," Luca warns, though I feel approval through our bond. "They're already calling for Coralina to choose one mate."

"Let them try," Ryder's voice drops dangerously. "But first, we need to talk. Privately."

He leads us to his private study. Once the door closes, his formal façade cracks.

"You're my best friends," Ryder says quietly, looking at the twins. "My brothers in everything but blood. And now we're bound together through Coralina in the most intimate way possible."

"It's complicated," Nathan says, green eyes hard. "Sharing my mate with anyone goes against every instinct."

The room goes silent, tension crackling.

"But?" Ryder prompts.

Nathan turns back. "But I've watched her with you for months. She loves you, Ryder. And when Sage nearly killed her..." His voice breaks. "The Goddess chose all three of us. We'll make it work."

"Maybe we're meant to prove love doesn't have to be limited," Luca adds. "The Goddess bound four people together for the first time in history. That means something."

Ryder nods slowly. "Then we do this together. All of us. No hiding, no shame, no apologies."

"The ceremony preparations will take days," I remind them. "We should talk individually before then. There are things that need to be said."

They agree, and we separate to handle various preparations. But I know what conversations need to happen first.

I find Nathan in the training grounds that afternoon, attacking a practice dummy with vicious precision.

"Nathan," I call.

He stops mid-swing. "I knew you'd find me."

"We need to talk about sharing me."

His fist clenches. "I hate it. Every instinct screams you're mine alone. My wolf goes insane."

"I know."

Nathan drops the sword, pulling me against him. "But when Sage attacked, when I thought we'd lose you, everything became clear." His hands frame my face. "I'd rather share you and keep you safe than lose you to possessiveness. I know you love me completely even if I'm not your only."

"You're not less because there are others," I tell him fiercely. "My love for you isn't divided, Nathan. It's multiplied. Each bond is complete and whole."

He kisses me then, deep and claiming, and I feel his acceptance settling through our bond—not easy, not without struggle, but real.

"I'll work on it," he promises against my lips. "Every day. Because you're worth it."

That evening, I find Luca on the palace ramparts, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of gold and crimson.

"Your turn to check on me?" he asks without turning, though his tone is lighter than Nathan's was.

"You hide it better," I say, joining him at the stone railing. "But I know you're struggling too."

Luca's usual bright smile dims. "I'm not a king. I'm not even the more dominant twin. Nathan's always been the stronger one, the leader between us. And now Ryder—he's literally royalty. Where does that leave me?"

"You think you're less important," I state, not asking.

"Aren't I?" His blue eyes search mine, vulnerability cracking through. "When you have a king and my stronger brother, what do you need me for?"

I turn him to face me fully, hands on his chest. "Luca, listen to me. Each bond is unique and essential. Nathan grounds me when I'm lost. Ryder sees through all my masks to who I really am. But you?"

I smile softly. "You bring light to every darkness. You make me laugh when the world feels too heavy. You remind me that joy exists even in chaos."

"Coralina—"

"My bond with you isn't lesser because you're not a king or because Nathan seems stronger," I continue firmly. "It's different. Special. Irreplaceable. The Goddess didn't make a mistake binding us together. You're essential to me, to all of us. This wouldn't work without you."

His hands find my waist, pulling me closer. "You mean that."

"Every word." I press my forehead to his. "I need my light-bringer. Always."

He kisses me softly, sweetly, and I feel his fears easing through our bond. "I love you," he whispers. "Even if I have to share you with my brother and my king."

"Especially because you're willing to," I correct, making him laugh.

Later that night, Ryder comes to my chambers. We stand on my balcony, looking out at the capital spread below us, lights twinkling like earthbound stars.

"This is strange, isn't it?" I say quietly. "Our bond was there all along, just hidden."

"Twenty years," Ryder murmurs. "Twenty years of feeling incomplete, of knowing something was missing but never understanding what." His arms wrap around me from behind. "The moment we met at the festival, something in me recognized you. I thought it was just attraction, but it was so much more."

"Are you overwhelmed?" I ask, feeling the swirl of emotions through our bond.

"Completely," he admits without hesitation. "I never thought I'd complete a mate bond at all. I'd accepted I'd die young, probably in battle, definitely alone. And now..." He turns me to face him. "Now I have you. A mate. A true mate who loves me despite everything."

"Not despite," I correct. "Because of. All of you, Ryder. The king, the man, the wounded soul who thought he'd never have this."

"I'm terrified," he confesses quietly. "Not of the political chaos or the court's reaction. Terrified this is a dream I'll wake from. That the Goddess will realize she made a mistake giving me this gift."

"No mistakes," I say firmly. "No dreams, not anymore. This is real, Ryder. We're real. And tomorrow we make it official before the entire kingdom."

"Whatever comes of it," he agrees. "We'll figure it out. There's no way but forward now."

"No way but forward," I agree, sealing the promise with a kiss.

Through all three bonds, I feel my mates' presence—Nathan's fierce protectiveness, Luca's warm acceptance, Ryder's overwhelming gratitude. Tomorrow we shock the court. Tomorrow we claim our unprecedented bond before the world.

But tonight, we've found our balance. Four souls bound by the Goddess, choosing each other despite tradition, despite politics, despite every instinct that says this shouldn't work.

We'll make it work.

We'll figure it out, whatever comes of it.

Because there's no way but forward now.
