Imbeciles.
Laughter boomed around me, a cacophony of sound. Some deep and rumbling, decent enough to try to hold back and the rest just further away, a stark reminder of my isolation in this situation. Others, like the Fay king and Tew! Laughed like teen boys infused with hormones on their first shift. They were roaring, gasping for air, slamming their hands on their thighs or foreheads. They were all acting foolishly childish, a behavior that only intensified my discomfort.
"Amon, my friend. Who can you be so educated, so schooled and bright, but still be so stupid?"
Like his skin burned my skin, I shook the fay king's hand off my shoulder. Laughing so much, he sounded like a pig trying to inhale; his hand leaned forward and patted my shoulder before leaning his weight on me- all to be able to keep himself standing while laughing.
"First off, we are not friends! Second, you are wrong! I base it all on silence. And you! "
Spinning around, I pointed my finger at Tew, "You should know better! You know I would never, in my life! Make a statement like this without doing extended research! I double-check my theories and do it all over again!"
Shouting, my hand shook in anger and frustration. With a blink of an eye, it was dead silence. I am not used to being questioned like this and not at all laughed at! I am well aware of my IQ and ability to learn and adapt, and this? All of this, them! It is plain rudeness! For a second, then two, I could finally soak in that silence! I could breathe in the stunned realization as soon as their slow brains managed to comprehend facts!
The sound was deafening. Roaring, rumbling, and shouting, the laughter grew louder. Stunned in astonishment, and gaped at Tew. He threw his head back and arms holding his stomach. The man, supposed to be the alpha of one of the most substantial packs in this world, laughed so hard that tears streamed down his face and pretended like his chest was hurting. My anger turned to a strange frozen state as I looked around only to see The Fay King´s right hand, that dry stuck-up stick always by his side, kneeling on the ground and gasping for air through the all-consuming laughter.
"Amon, my soon-to-be brother-in-law, I know. I know the extent of your research, both experiments and study, but here, my friend, you are clearly wrong!"
Tew made a poor attempt to hold his laughter back and wipe tears of laughter off his face. Gulping air down, and stopped in front of me. I hate that smile! I never want to see that smile again! So smug, the better man and. He was beaming with joy! He lit up the entire field like a true, pure-blooded bully! I bet he even knows how wrong he is and how wrong they all are!
"Calm down, Amon. I love you as a brother, and you are by far the brightest person I know. The strange, bizarre, helpful, and interesting thing that brain of yours is able to extract and store astonishes me! However, and I say this in the kindest way I know, women, females, any kind of the fair sex, not specified to any species, you are clueless!"
"Excuse me??"
"Oh, come on! Even you have to realize you do not ask a woman if she's in heat like that! "
A bit perplexed, I stared back at Tew, unable to form a word. He was serious! That´s what he is laughing about? That didn't even concern my research; it was just a minor detail that surfaced while talking. Could he have misunderstood me? A wave of clarity and something that felt like relief washed over me. I was back, I could smile again, and my world was in balance. Of course, he had misunderstood!
"Tew, I do believe you are confused! That had nothing to do with my research. Just a store around how this led me to the experiments and study I have been doing to map the female."
I opened my mouth to continue but passed myself, seeing Tew's reaction. He bit his lip, and tears started bulging in his eyes.
"What?!"
I lost my temper and lost my manners for a moment. However, I didn't get it! The man stood there trying his hardest to stop himself from laughing like a maniac.
"You do know females, or women, are not a mythical being, right? Yes, for a long time, we rarely, have girls born into this world. But we do know they exist. We meet them daily, are raised by them, and have conversations and meals every day. And, from the way you were telling the story, she was, you know, "a little hot and bothered," and the clueless man asked if she was in heat! You also blamed her for being hangry, and without a clue, you embarrassed her later by asking to kiss her! She even said yes! Think about it. Just a second later, she said yes to kiss you! And you, filled with excitement, start taking down notes! Telling her about the experiment and then struggling to understand why she wasn't as excited as you?"
"I know that last part!"
I spat back at him before mumbling while turning my head to the right,
" Many, many times... Force fed me every single wrong step."
" See!"
"Only that last part! I know females are not mythical, strange beings created in a saga! But we do not know that much about their reproductive organs or their emotional states!"
"That might be so, but that does not mean you should treat them as test bunnies! Hei, send her over here!"
He suddenly turned to a man further back and waved him up to us. Beside him came a female warrior, Fay, incredible! I've never seen that before! I didn't even know the fay allowed their females to be warriors! With a broad smile, I greeted the stunning, tall woman in armor with a nod. Before I could even start opening my mouth to introduce myself, Tew spoke up again. Leaving me in an unnecessarily uncomfortable position. Locking eyes, just as he spoke, I felt trapped there while a burning blush crept up my neck and face.
"Kara, we are conducting an experiment! Would you like to grab the dragon king's balls and ask if his horny or just ready to reproduce?"
"That is not... I didn't... Please excuse. I never said that! Nothing like it!"
Words fumbled in my brain, and my head stopped working as it should! How could he be so shameful! And with a huge audience?
"No, you did! I'm just using other words, but asking the exact same you asked yourself now, mate!"
More laughter, and I could feel the color drain from my face.
"Think it over, my friend! But now, buckle up! We are here."
At the massive entrance to the Fay lands capital city at the end of the road, a couple of guards, what looked like two old maids or grandmothers, waited with a couple of more staff members. Flanked by two massive warriors, a young human girl with blue eyes looked in our direction.
