As Alexa left her father and started off towards home, she went through all that her father had said and felt her spirits lift. So her mother was not a bad person afterall, she had been in love and had left, not wanting to wreck the home of her lover nor endanger her daughter's life. Mother didn't abandoned me. She just didn't want me to be in danger. She must have known that her lover's wife would not treat me well but she had to choose between the lesser of two evils to keep me safe. If the Alpha had found out, not only her but I would have been killed instantly. It was a tough call but she did what she thought was best at the time.
'If that is the case, why didn't she take me with her?' Alexa recalled asking her father.
'She left immediately after giving birth to you and was in a very weak state and I hoped she would go far and be safe but travelling in the wilds at night with a new baby in the heat of the sun and the chill of the night, I could not take that chance and she felt you would be safer here with me as well', he said apologetically. ' I do not regret my decision because you helped me bear her absence. I saw her everytime I looked at you. She gave you this enchanted amulet to ensure you came to no harm whatsoever!'
Alexa nodded knowingly. Dad, she thought, if you saw Mildred everytime you looked at me and are reminded of your love, then your wife must also see her everytime she stared at me and get reminded each time of her hatred for my mother and the pain of your betrayal and who can blame her? She is justified to feel wronged and to hate me.
She looked at the amulet she had never removed from her neck. Instead, she turned it into a bracelet if her dress required no such necklace No wonder she had always felt comforted by this amulet.
She was so deep in thought that she did not know when someone came up from behind her and with a handkerchief sprayed with chloroform, covered her nose and she passed out without much of a struggle.
She came to in a strange apartment, tied up and there was a vicious looking man leering at her.
'Who are you and why have you brought me here?' she asked, trying to jerk her hands away from the rope that tied them behind her but not making any impact.
'That is not for you to know. All you should know is that the person wants you dead so that you will stop being a nuisance to them!' he laughed viciously and Alexa could see his dead darkened by tobacco and other tooth missing making him look very hideous.
'Whatever they are paying you, I shall pay you double, triple in fact!' she said desperately. She could not die. Her children needed her. She had to stay alive for them!
'That's not the way it works, Beauty', the man smiled and his younger partner, approached her impatiently.
'Stop all this drama. It is delaying our job. I need my balance to be paid and it can only be paid when the evidence of this bitch's death is sent to the person who hired us!' he said. 'So get it done and stop playing!'
'Not before I have had my fun with her!' the older thug said.
'That is a waste of time. Anyone can come here at anytime and I do not want to get caught! With your money, you can get any girl you want',he insisted. I say let's get this over with and if you aren't going to do it, then I shall do it!'
'Don't you want to find out what this belle taste like?' You shall have her after me!' the older one said.
'He proceeded to pull, Alexa's clothes up when they heard a bang as the door was ticked off and a man charged in like a wounded lion.
'Let go off her!' he roared. Kicking the thug away from Alexa.
Whatever happened next, Alexa didn't know because she was so relieved that she had been saved that she passed out!
When she woke, she was in her room, on her bed, in Wayne's house and Wayne was sitting on a chair close to her bed.
'What happened?' she asked, looking around surprised and then it all came flowing into her mind, all that had happened in the warehouse where her captors had taken her.
'What?' he asked smiling happily that she was okay. 'Not a word of thanks for saving you?'
'Thank you so much, Wayne's, she said. 'You saved me again!'
'Don't mention it!' he said, touching her cheek tenderly. 'It is my duty!' he said, looking at her with all his love and Alexa felt odd. She did not want to hurt Wayne. He had been so good to them but she didn't love him and it won't be fair to lead him on.
'Where is Valerie?' she asked, wanting to distract him. She suddenly had a brain wave as to why Valerie was acting so antagonistic towards her. Valerie thought that she and Wayne were in a romantic relationship but she could not be far from the truth. She hoped she would come to realise her mistake.
'She went out not too long ago!' he said shrugging carelessly.
'How did you know I was in danger?' she asked.
'I suddenly felt distressed and I could only think of you and I felt like I was suffocating and had to follow your scent. We vampires have that in common with you were we loves you know. That was how I traced you to that abandoned warehouse!' he explained.
'Thank you so much once more Wayne', she said ' But what happened to those men?'.
'You do not have to bother yourself about them. I made sure they never have to bother you again!' he said, a hard look in his eyes.
Alexa was scared. She hoped he didn't mean that he killed them. She didn't want to be the cause of any blood shed but she hated to ask. She shut her eyes, trying to shut out the image of the men's faces from her mind.
'Where are my babies?' she asked instead. 'I'll like to see them now!'
