Chapter 14: Moving Out
Kim:
“Is that truly the reason why you want to move out, Nong Kit? Or are you just finding an excuse to run away from your problems?”
Kim’s own question plagued his mind from time to time as he sat in his chair in his office, looking out at the Bangkok high rises through the clear glass window that stretched the entire length of the wall.
The truth was…Nong Kit wasn’t just running away from his problems…he was running away from Kim.
Of course Kim knew about it. How could he not when the boy’s crystal clear hazel eyes spoke volumes about what was really going on in his heart? If eyes were the windows to one’s soul, the Kit’s were wide open and with full clarity.
He was still far too innocent…far too naïve for this world that Kim lived in.
The best solution would have been to let him go; to let him live his life however he wanted and to never see him again. But it was already a little too late for that. It had been since the day he had decided to take him to his condo and have a one-night stand that changed his life forever.
“Sire?” A knock on the door, followed by Aawut’s voice snapped Kim out of his thoughts.
“Come in.” He told his most trusted man as he turned back to face the doors and watched his head guard enter the room with a tab in his hands. “Is this about the men from the other night?”
It had taken Aawut some time to gather information about the thugs since no one actually knew their real name, but in the end, Aawut had traced the men down as best as he could and now, he handed the tab over to his boss, showing him the results on everything he had been able to collect thus far.
“Is this all?” Kim asked in disappointment as he went through all the seven pages in less than five minutes.
“Forgive me, Sire.” Aawut bowed his head regretfully. “I’ll get the information you need very soon. But from what I can tell…there might be a link to another syndicate. It’s just very well hidden.”
“I’m of the same opinion.” Kim nodded, handing the tab back to Aawut. “Otherwise…it’s almost impossible for some minor street thugs to own millions of Baht that they can easily loan out to poor people so that they can collect the interest later. It’s someone with money and enough power that they can control people in my area. Whoever it is…they have been doing this for quite some time now.”
“I will try my best, sire.” Aawut bowed again before he excused himself.
Kim turned back to his table where he had left his computer open. There was a list of several luxurious condos in the area that was closest to the University the Kit studied in. His first instinct had been to give him the best of the best, but knowing the Nong…he wouldn’t appreciate it at all. So now, Kim was looking at affordable condos with two bedrooms and the best possible security.
Not that it mattered, because he very well planned to place his own men inside the condo despite the security. There was still a chance that the men who had hurt Kit might come after him in order to take revenge on Kim for killing their men…but even if that weren’t the case…Kim was the Mafia boss, he naturally had several enemies. It wouldn’t take long for people to figure out that Kit was connected to him, no matter how hard he tried to protect him.
And the last thing Kim wanted was for Kit to be in any kind of danger because of him.
He was okay with Kit ‘moving out’ of the main mansion…but that didn’t mean he was going to leave him alone.
Speaking of…
He took his phone in his hands and dialed Kaya’s number before placing the phone to his ears.
“He’s sleeping.” Kaya answered on the second ring. “I just fed him his lunch and left him to rest in his room.”
Eventually, Kit had chosen to move to his own room, which was right opposite from Kim. Kaya had merely raised her eyebrows at him when she had found out, but otherwise, she didn’t seem all that bothered that Kim was trying to hit on her Nong.
“Good.” Kim sighed in relief. “I was calling about the condo.”
“Kim…you really don’t need to get him a condo.” Kaya sighed over the line. “I’m sure he’s going to be fine in a dorm.”
“But I’m not fine with it.” Kim told her. “Dorm’s don’t have any solid security and I want to make sure no one is able to get to him when we are not around. The issue isn’t solved yet. We need to be careful of those who hurt Nong Kit…they’re still out there and have gone into hiding.”
“I understand.” Kaya said after a minute of silence. “But at least go with the cheapest options? I’m already indebted to you for saving my brother’s life, Kim…I don’t know how much more I can take. You keep doing everything for us without wanting anything in return.”
“I should’ve been there for you sooner, Kaya.” Kim told her sincerely. “If only I had been there sooner, none of this would have happened in the first place. You and Kit wouldn’t have had to face years of harassment and your mother wouldn’t have worked herself to the grave.”
“None of which is your fault.” Kaya sighed again, hoping that all the sighs won’t lead her to more unhappy days ahead. “How did I get so lucky to have such an amazing best friend? I must have done something wonderful in my previous life.”
“You did something wonderful in this life as well.” Kim said. “You helped me through my darkest days. You stayed beside me when no one else did.”
And for that reason alone, Kim would forever be indebted to her.
