The realization hit me that I was no longer a wife. A flood of emotions washed over me, and tears welled up in my eyes. I could feel a mix of sadness, relief, and joy all at once. I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself, and looked back at the papers in my hand.
It was at this moment that I realized that Tann and Xax had come through for me. They were the ones who had managed to get the divorce papers sent to me, which meant that Dale did not know my whereabouts. I felt grateful beyond words and my heart filled with an immense sense of relief.
Tears of gratitude welled up in my eyes, and I looked around to find Anya standing behind me. She had brought with her a pen, which she handed to me with a soft smile on her face. Jaimie, her little son, was playing with his toys in her arms, unaware of the gravity of the situation.
I took the pen from her with trembling hands, and wiped the tears from my eyes. I signed all the empty spaces on the papers that were meant for my signature, folded them back into the envelope, and handed it back to the mailman.
As he walked away, I felt a heavy weight lift from my shoulders. I watched him disappear from sight, and with each step he took, I felt myself becoming more and more free. Tears streamed down my face, a mix of happiness and sorrow.
Anya asked me if the paper meant what she thought it did, and I nodded vigorously. I hugged her and little Jaimie tightly, and we both laughed and talked in sheer happiness. In the one week we had stayed together, Anya had become my family, and Jaimie and I had become hers. We had become the best of friends and sisters, a bond that was unbreakable.
As we hugged, I looked up at the sky, and watched as the sun set, leaving behind a trail of golden light. The sky was turning into a deep shade of blue, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. I whispered to myself, "Thank you so much, Tann. I wish you were here right now. I miss you so much and think of you every day. Your memories will forever be etched in my heart. I am waiting for you, my Tann."
