The Cruel Emperor’s Bride

Chapter 76

Ch. 76 / 150 Dec 05, 2025

Vharon had never seen such a sight.

The entire horizon burned with movement — thousands of soldiers marching in perfect formation, siege towers groaning under their own weight, war beasts snarling beneath armored handlers. Storm clouds twisted overhead, darkened by Triarch magic until lightning flickered purple across the sky.

A shadow blanketed the palace.

Ariaxa stood beside Kaedan on the highest balcony, the wind ripping at her hair and cloak, her injured shoulder throbbing with every heartbeat. She had never felt so small — or so necessary.

Below them, Vharon’s soldiers lined the battlements. Archers nocked arrows. Mages prepared spells. Riven’s commanders barked orders.

The earth itself seemed to tremble under the weight of the approaching armies.

Kaedan stood tall — cloak billowing, eyes burning, jaw set like carved obsidian.

He did not flinch.

Not when the Triarchs’ banners unfurled.

Not when the drums thundered from the enemy line.

Not when the palace gates groaned under the force of fear escaping them.

Then—

A figure stepped forward from the Triarch host.

Queen Rhaelle.

Her skin glowed faintly crimson under the stormlight, her horns adorned with gold chains that clinked softly in the wind. A cloak of shadow trailed behind her, living, writhing, responding to her heartbeat.

A hush fell.

Then her voice — amplified by magic — rolled across the battlefield like a wave of smoke:

“Emperor Kaedan of Vharon.”

Kaedan didn’t move.

Didn’t bow.

Didn’t breathe.

Rhaelle smiled, slow and cruel.

“We come not for your throne. Not for your crown. Not for your land.”

Her gaze shifted upward — landing directly on Ariaxa.

“We come for the girl.”

Ariaxa’s stomach dropped.

The soldiers below roared in agreement, stomping weapons, chanting.

“Give. Her. Up.”

“Give. Her. Up.”

“Give. Her. Up.”

Rhaelle lifted a hand for silence.

“She has violated sacred law. She has corrupted your rule. She has weakened your empire.” Her voice sharpened. “Surrender the Sun Princess, and the Sharing Law violation will be forgiven.”

A murmured gasp spread across Vharon’s wall.

Surrender Ariaxa…

And avoid annihilation.

Ariaxa’s heart pounded against her ribs hard enough to bruise. Her legs trembled. She forced herself to stand firm — chin lifted, eyes steady.

Kaedan stepped forward.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Every soldier on both sides held their breath.

“You want her?” he called out, voice carrying like thunder.

Rhaelle smirked. “Yes.”

Kaedan’s lips curled into a smile that was pure danger.

“Then come,” he said, voice slicing through the battlefield,

“and take her yourselves.”

A shockwave of gasps rippled across both armies.

Even Ariaxa inhaled sharply, her blood turning to fire.

Kaedan turned his head slightly toward her, not looking directly, but enough for her to see the truth in his expression:

He would not surrender her.

He would burn the world down first.

Rhaelle’s smile dropped.

Lord Vaelen stepped forward beside her, his silver armor glowing like moonlight. “Vharon has spoken. Prepare yourselves.”

Warden Brakus roared, slamming his war spear into the dirt. His beast battalions answered with guttural howls.

Ariaxa’s pulse skipped.

“That wasn’t diplomacy,” she whispered. “That was a death sentence.”

Kaedan’s jaw tightened. “They were going to attack regardless.”

“Kaedan—”

“They want you,” he said fiercely. “They will not touch you.”

She felt her breath catch at the rawness in his voice.

But before she could reply—

Rhaelle lifted her hand.

The shadows behind her stirred.

They gathered.

Thickened.

Shaped themselves into flaming black orbs.

Shadow fire.

Kaedan stiffened. “Get back.”

Ariaxa stepped beside him instead. “Kaedan, that magic—”

“I know.”

Rhaelle’s arm dropped like a guillotine.

And the sky exploded.

A barrage of swirling black flames tore across the battlefield, streaking toward Vharon’s walls with shrieking, unnatural sound — half fire, half screaming souls.

The first blast hit.

The palace trembled.

The stone wall beneath the balcony glowed—

Cracked—

And then disintegrated into ash.

A scream of stone reverberated through the fortress as part of the battlement crumbled, falling into the moat in a cascade of dust and flame.

Ariaxa gasped, instinctively grabbing Kaedan’s arm.

Kaedan pulled her behind his body, teeth bared, eyes blazing with a fury that made the air crackle.

The war had begun.
