I laid back on the bed and just stared at the ceiling, wondering just what destiny had in store for me. What would be all their reactions when I finally return to my birth Pack after four years? Would Zephyr still accuse me of heartlessly killing his father? Has my biological family ever missed me even once? Ever since they had abandoned me, I had stopped thinking about them but the thought of returning back to that Pack and having a chance to see them again after so long is bringing back so many memories, much of which I'm not fond of but then again, blood has always been thicker than water. I can't deny the fact that they're my family no matter what they did to me. It's a shame that Kayden won't get to meet his in-laws just yet as he'll be going on his own mission. Maybe if Zephyr behaves, puts aside his one sided vendetta with me and treats me properly like a guest, I might return to that Pack with Kayden some other time, just to see my parents. As for Moira, I'm not thrilled to see her. I'll only be nice to her if she's nice to me, my days of quietly enduring her nonsense have ended a long time ago. They'll all get to see the new Evelyn, not the one they had all brutalized, neglected and abandoned but the strong woman which my lovely mate and adoptive family have raised. Dismissing my fears and focusing only on the positive side of things soon brings a smile to my face amidst the uncanny feeling that dominates my belly.
A few minutes later, Kayden returns with the doctor. We exchange pleasantries and despite my stiff argument that I'm perfectly fine, Kayden tells the doctor to go ahead with the check up anyway.
After a quick examination, I sit up on the bed and wait for the doctor to tell Kayden that I'm absolutely fine and he's simply just making a mountain out of a molehill. The doctor beams a smile and this ascertains that my suspicions are correct, I'm thankfully OK so I smile back while Kayden just stares at the both of us strangely.
"OK, doctor, what's going on? Is she alright? I hope it's nothing too serious?" Kayden inquired and the doctor shook her head. "You really have nothing to worry about, Prince Kayden, she's absolutely fine. She's actually in perfect condition and there's only good news to share." The doctor said and the smile immediately wiped from my face. What is she talking about? What good news?
"I don't get it. If she's fine, then why did she get sick earlier and what good news are you talking about?" Kayden questioned, sharing my curiosity.
The doctor giggled at our cluelessness before finally speaking. "What I mean is, Evelyn is pregnant and not just that, but her baby seems to be in perfect condition. A hearty congratulations to the both of you." The doctor announced excitedly and my mouth dropped open.
I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't this. I was completely numb for a few seconds, trying to process what I had just heard and when it finally hit, I couldn't even express my joy.
"Congratulations Evelyn, we get to be a mum again." Tara congratulated me. "Yes, congratulations to us but why do I feel like you already knew about this?" I questioned her. "Well because I did, it wasn't easy to spot the first time due to our psychological condition but after the first experience, it was easy to know that we were with child." Tara said and I wanted to get mad at her but I just couldn't.
"Why didn't you just tell me? I got Kayden worried over nothing." I scolded.
"Where's the fun in that? These days you're all about work, you're even busier than the Luna herself and you don't even let me go for a run anymore. I feel bored out of my mind sometimes, especially since you don't speak to me much anymore since you can just talk to others. Not telling you was my way of having fun and I just wanted you to figure it out. I'm surprised that you didn't." Tara said and I felt slightly guilty. It is true.
Things have changed a lot since I was granted the ability to speak. I've become a lot more "useful" in this pack and since I have a responsibility, I give it my all and don't relent. I've been so busy that I couldn't even notice the changes in my own body, I felt like face palming myself.
"I'm sorry Tara, I should pay more attention to us from now on. I was so busy that I hardly noticed but I'm glad to be able to share this joyful moment with you once more. This time around, we have every reason to celebrate and we surely will. I promise that after we return from Crescent Moon, I'll make sure to focus more on us because a healthy and happy mother is the only way to have a healthy baby." I said and I felt her wag her tail excitedly.
I only broke from my reverie when I felt Kayden take me in a hug.
"I'm so happy Evelyn, we're going to have our own baby, I'm going to be a dad. Well, not that I'm not already a dad, I am because Nevaeh is also my daughter and I love her so much and I always will, it's just that….." He blabbered on and I couldn't stop myself from giggling. I have honestly never seen him so nervous. It's both silly and heartwarming. He must be so thrilled, he's going to become a father soon and this time, to his biological child.
The thought springs a sudden euphoric feeling within me. I'm currently carrying Kayden's child, I'm carrying the offspring of the one I love so dearly and it really is the best feeling in the world. Despite the fact that I had only known of the baby's existence barely two minutes ago, I was already feeling so attached.
I'm sure Elsie and everyone else will be ecstatic after hearing the news.
"Yes, I'm so happy that I don't even have words to express it. After hearing such news, I'm absolutely sure that everything will be fine from now on." I said with a smile. I look around and notice that the doctor has left.
"Yes, I feel exactly the same way. I love you Evelyn and I will always do my best to protect you, Neveah and our unborn child and in light of that, I can't let you return back to the Crescent Moon Pack." Kayden said and I instantly detached from the hug.
