"Are you sure about this? I'm the Alpha of this Pack and only I have the right to make the final decision. I promise I won't let anyone pressure you into doing what you don't want to. Would you really like me to send you to the Crescent Moon Pack?" Alpha Richard questioned and his concern for me was evident on his face and although I desperately wanted to have nothing to do with that Pack, my mind was already made up.
I had run away from my past for way too long but not anymore. I just have to face and overcome it and although the thought of meeting with Zephyr face to face again scares me more than I can say, I really can't avoid this. After my therapy, I had convinced myself that I wasn't scared of him anymore and now, it would be time to put my convictions to the test. This would be the ultimate test to know if I've healed or not.
"You don't have to worry, Zephyr won't dare to be nasty to us. We're not his mate anymore and we're going as envoys, no matter how sick he might behave sometimes, he's sure to be respectful to us as guests." Tara said and I managed a small smile.
"There's really no need to tear up or be so afraid. This encounter would just have to surface at some point and now's the time. We're just going to have to show Zephyr that he doesn't affect us anymore, and that he couldn't succeed in breaking us, all he did only just made us stronger." Tara continued on and her words just helped build up my confidence. I take a deep breath and finally come to terms with the fact that I have to do this.
Kayden grabs hold of my hand and gives me a knowing look. I can tell he's not happy about my decision but he can't object much because we're still in a meeting and we're not allowed to introduce personal sentiments into decisions regarding the Pack's welfare.
"Yes, I'm sure. I'll start preparing for my journey immediately so I can leave tomorrow morning." I said and took a seat, quickly wiping the stray tear drop that had fallen down my cheek. I have to comport myself.
"So it's decided then, tomorrow, Kayden will leave for the Elven Meadows while Evelyn will leave for the Crescent Moon Pack." Alpha Richard announced while the others nodded in agreement.
I tried to smile but I couldn't because suddenly, I felt a strange movement in my belly and I instantly became nauseous. I tried to stay calm but I just couldn't. Could it be that my utter nervousness is making me feel this way? The nauseous feeling just kept rising up my throat until I couldn’t take it anymore.
“I’m sorry Alpha but I would please like to excuse myself.” I requested and didn’t even wait for an answer before rushing out of the meeting. I rushed to my room and then to my bathroom and I threw up in the sink. I heard someone come into the bathroom and I turned slightly to see that it was Kayden. I tried to put on a smile so he wouldn't be too worried about me but that sinking feeling returned and I threw up once more. Kayden rushed to my side and helped hold my hair up. After I had emptied my guts, I felt a little bit better. I rinsed my mouth and washed the sink.
"Are you alright?" He questioned and I shook my head because I was feeling a little lightheaded.
"Come with me." He said and attempted to pull me along with him but I declined. "No, hold on. I need to brush first." I requested and he nodded before leaving the bathroom.
I quickly brushed my teeth to get the sour taste out of my mouth and then I washed my face. As I towel dried my face, I gazed into the bathroom mirror and for one split second, I thought I saw Zephyr behind me. Fear instantly gripped me and I turned around quickly but it only caused my head to chime with a headache. I looked around the bathroom and ascertained that I was alone. Of course, it's just my imagination, just like when I first came here. I'm the only one here, it would be impossible for Zephyr to be here in the first place, I tried to assure myself.
"Calm down Evelyn, it's OK. There's no one here, it's just us. Just take a deep breath." Tara tried to pacify me.
I took a deep breath and stood still for a bit. No matter how brave I feel that I've become, there's no denying that my old fears seem to be coming back and this time, I won't let them get the better of me. This is all the more reason why I have to go to the Crescent Moon Pack. I take a deep breath and walk out of the bathroom and immediately I do, Kayden accosts me and grabs a hold of my hand.
He walks me to the bed and helps me sit down.
"Are you feeling better now?" He questioned and I nodded. I hear him sigh before continuing to speak. "This is all because of Richard's stupid decision of sending you to Crescent Moon, isn't it?" He probed.
"No, that's not it. I've been feeling a little sick all morning and that's why I threw up. I think I might be coming down with something." I equivocate.
"Do you really think you can lie to me? You were just fine a minute ago and after Richard mentioned that you'd been going to Crescent Moon, I saw all the color drain from your face and as if that wasn't enough, you suddenly got sick and started throwing up. I know that you're scared of going back there due to your past experiences but Richard gave you a chance to refuse so why didn't you take it? You should know that it's better to avoid certain situations, I won't let you put your health at risk just because you're trying to prove something to people whose opinions shouldn't even matter." Kayden scolded.
"No, I really am fine and this has nothing to do with the task that Richard assigned to me. I'm just stressed, that's all, a little rest and I'll be fine, I promise." I assured him and made to stand up but my head buzzed and my vision blurred terribly so I fell back down. Kayden instantly became protective.
"For Selene's sake please be careful, you should know that I wouldn't be able to handle it if anything happened to you. I've seen enough, this isn't nothing. I'm calling the doctor right away." Kayden said and left before I could protest.
