Kacie
I wait for the pain, or the resounding crash of my body flying into the wall but it never comes. I open my eyes and when I look around me everything is in flames. Fear courses through my veins and I look down at my hands.
Bright flames engulfed my hands and spread up to my elbows. The flames licked at my body but didn’t hurt. I wasn’t in pain. I stared at my hands in shock before looking up to Clara. She stared at me with eyes wide with shock before her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“What the fuck?” She said more to herself than to me.
I take a step forward and she takes a step back. She blinks and seems to realize she was retreating. Lifting her chin, Clara focuses on me and steps towards me.
“Are you actually mad at me, or are you mad at Viktor?” she taunted, not even bothering to lower into a protective stance, waiting for me to attack.
I didn’t answer, trying to focus on every burning tingle that spread through my body.
“Don’t,” I growled.
She yawned and with a flick of her wrist, she threw one broken half of the table at me. She looked away, giving me an opening and I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to make her bleed. I threw out my hand, releasing a powerful spiral of fire, but she blocked it with yet another flick of her wrist, sending the flames to the right and burning down one entire wall.
Clara dove into action, throwing out a palm and sending a spear made of ice tearing through the air towards me. I cast fire, burning it into ash, but she kept throwing them, the spears flying forwards with a ferocity that should have terrified me. But I wasn’t afraid, I was scared, I was furious.
I burned through every attack she threw at me with a yell of race. Something cold and dark slithered and wrapped around my leg, extinguishing the heat from my lower half. She threw me against the wall and I stared down at her with so much venom, I would have been scared of myself if I were in her place.
She smirked and laughed as she stared up at me. With a growl from me and Athena, the waves crashed against the rocks outside. I sent a tidal wave of flames at her but it cascaded over a perfect dome of ice around her.
I watched as her eyes widen as the dome of ice slowly started to melt. I continued my onslaught of fire-bent hell attacks. I burned through it with a scream of pure rage and the dome dripped away to nothing but a puddle on the floor.
My heart pounded.
I swung forward with and cracked the bridge of Clara’s beautiful nose with a savage headbutt. Her eyes widened in surprise at the quick attack. She bowed her head and gripped her nose.
Before she could react, I swung a fist into her throat before driving my knee into her gut. As Clara straightened, I knocked her down to the ground and swung my fists down into her face without holding back.
This woman tried to take Viktor from me, tried to claim him even though we were together, played dirty tricks to try to pull us apart. She was working with Ken, who was the lowest of the low.
Blood spurted across my face. Athena was wild and vicious within me and had been waiting for the chance to get our claws into Clara’s smooth skin. Clara didn’t just take my punches, she fought back just as viciously as I was. She punched over and over again. Pain erupted in my ribs, chest, and face as she fought back.
I slammed my fists into her so hard that I was pretty sure I heard her ribs crack in her slender body. I never thought I could hurt someone like this but it was fight or flight but I couldn’t run away. I had no choice.
I cocked my right fist back, putting everything I had into it, ready to end her when the coldness threw me off of her.
I’m exhausted and my strength is almost spent. The heat disappears and I desperately try to call it back with no luck. The heat fizzled out and I grit my teeth and try to call upon my wolfish strength.
When it fails to surface, I know I’m lost. I can’t win. I’m going to lose. The gravity of it tears at my gut and I know I won’t be escaping.
A bone-chilling growl rang out and we both froze. I turned my head towards the direction the sound came from to find Ken watching us from the doorway.
“That’s enough,” he demands. He strides over to me and grips my chin in his hand and I shiver as his eyes scan over my face and body. “You were to guard her witch, not damage my pet,” he spat at Clara.
Clara throws a glare at me.
“She provoked me,” she said quietly.
Ken gripped the back of my neck and forced me to look up at him. He stared into my eyes like he could see my soul. I wanted to spit in his face. He didn’t know me and he sure as hell didn’t know what I was thinking.
He smiled like what he saw was a confirmation.
“She does have a thing for defiance,” he agreed.
Clara stays still. She doesn’t look at him or me.
Alpha Ken yanked me close to his body as he turns and leads me out.
“I’ll deal with you later,” he throws over his shoulder to Clara. She finally looks at him. He doesn’t see the hate in her eyes but I don’t miss it.
Dread hammers into my throat, chest, and my heart as we head down the hallway. My one opportunity to escape to leave here is gone. Clara won. Ken won.
