POV: Adeline
His room.
The door closed behind us with a soft click that seemed to echo in the quiet. The world outside—the war council maps, the enemy at the borders, the battle that would come with dawn—all of it faded until nothing existed except this room, this man, this moment we had fought so hard to reach.
Moonlight filtered through the window, painting silver stripes across the bed, the floor, his face as he turned to look at me. The scars on his cheeks caught the light, and I thought again how beautiful they made him—not despite themselves but because of them, proof of survival, proof of strength, proof that he had walked through fire and emerged standing.
For a long moment, neither of us moved. The air between us trembled with possibility. My heart beat so hard I was certain he could hear it.
Then he reached for me.
Slow. Reverent. As if we had all the time in the world, as if dawn would never come, as if the only thing that mattered was learning each other's geography by touch and taste and trembling breath.
His hands found my face first, cradling my jaw with a tenderness that made my chest ache. His thumbs traced the line of my cheekbones, the curve of my lips. He looked at me like he was memorizing every detail—like he wanted to carry the image of this moment with him forever.
"I've imagined this," he said quietly. "So many times. But the reality of you..."
He trailed off, words failing where touch could not.
I rose on my toes and pressed my lips to his. Not demanding—asking. Is this okay? Are we really doing this?
His answer was to pull me closer, one hand sliding into my hair, the other pressing flat against my lower back. The kiss deepened slowly, a gradual surrender rather than a sudden fall.
His hands mapped my shoulders, my arms, the curve of my waist through fabric that suddenly felt like an unbearable barrier. My own hands found the hem of his shirt, sliding beneath to discover the warm planes of his stomach, the scars that told stories I would ask him about later, the way his muscles tensed and released under my fingertips like he was struggling to hold himself together.
"I've wanted this," he breathed against my hair. "Since the beginning. Since you walked onto my territory like something out of a dream."
"I know," I whispered back. "I've wanted it too. Even when I was afraid to admit it."
We undressed each other slowly. No rushing. No desperation. Each piece of clothing removed like an unwrapping, a revelation, a gift being given and received.
His shirt first—I pulled it over his head and let my hands explore the landscape of his chest. The muscles that years of physical labor had carved. The scars that marked him as a survivor—one long, pale line running from his shoulder to his ribs, others scattered like constellations across his skin. I kissed each one, feeling him shudder beneath my touch, tasting the salt of his skin.
"You don't have to—" he started.
"I want you, Aiden. The beautiful parts and the damaged parts. They're all yours, and that means they're all mine now too."
He made a sound that might have been a laugh, and then his hands were on the ties of my dress, working them loose with fingers that trembled slightly. The fabric pooled at my feet, leaving me in nothing but the thin shift beneath. His breath caught audibly.
"May I?" His fingers hovered at the hem.
I nodded, and he drew it over my head with reverent hands. The cool air kissed my bare skin, followed immediately by the heat of his gaze. I stood before him in nothing but moonlight, fighting the urge to cover myself.
"Don't," he said softly, as if reading my thoughts. His eyes traveled over me—the curve of my breasts, the dip of my waist, the flare of my hips. "You're beautiful. Every inch of you."
His voice broke off. His hands trembled as they traced the curves of my body, cupping my breasts with aching gentleness. His thumbs brushed across my nipples, and I gasped at the sensation—a spark of pleasure that shot straight to my core.
"Sensitive," he murmured, a hint of wonder in his voice. He did it again, watching my face as I responded. "I want to learn everything about you."
"Then learn me," I whispered.
He lowered his head and took one peak into his mouth. The wet heat of his tongue made me cry out, my hands flying to his hair, holding him there. He laved and sucked while his hand attended to the other breast, rolling the sensitive bud between his fingers.
"Aiden—" His name came out broken.
I reached for the waist of his trousers, needing to feel more of him. He helped me, and then we were both bare, pressed together with nothing between us. The hard length of him pressed against my stomach, and I felt myself grow slick with wanting.
We made our way to the bed, mouths never separating for long. He laid me down and settled over me, the weight of him grounding and arousing at once. His hand traced down my body—over my breasts, across my stomach, lower. When his fingers slid between my thighs, I was already wet for him.
"So ready," he breathed against my throat.
His fingers parted my folds, finding the sensitive bundle of nerves at my center. He circled it slowly, watching my face as I gasped and arched into his touch. One finger slid inside me, then two, curling in a way that made stars burst behind my eyes.
"Is this okay?" he murmured.
"More than okay. Please—please don't stop—"
He worked me with patient devastation, his thumb circling my clit while his fingers moved inside me. I was trembling, climbing toward a peak I could feel building like a storm.
"Not yet," I gasped, reaching for him, wrapping my fingers around his hard length. He groaned at the contact, his hips jerking involuntarily. "I need you inside me."
He positioned himself at my entrance and paused, the thick head of him pressing against my slick opening. His forehead touched mine, both of us breathing hard.
"I love you," he said. "Whatever comes next. Whatever the war brings. I love you."
"I love you too. Now and always. Please, Aiden—"
He pushed forward.
The stretch was exquisite—a fullness that bordered on too much before settling into perfect. He sank into me inch by inch, giving me time to adjust to the size of him, watching my face for any sign of discomfort. When he was fully seated, we both stilled, overwhelmed.
The bond blazed between us like a sun rising. I felt him everywhere—not just where our bodies joined but in the very blood that moved through my veins, in the space behind my eyes, in the chambers of my heart. I could feel his pleasure echoing through the bond, amplifying my own.
"I can feel you," he whispered. "Everything you're feeling—I feel it too."
"Then feel this."
I clenched around him deliberately, and he groaned, his control slipping. He began to move—slow at first, long strokes that dragged against every sensitive place inside me. Each thrust sent waves of pleasure radiating outward.
"More," I breathed. "Harder. I won't break."
He obliged. His hips snapped forward with more force, finding a rhythm that made me cry out with every stroke. The sound of our bodies meeting filled the room—wet and urgent and primal. I wrapped my legs around him, changing the angle, taking him deeper.
"Gods, Adeline—" His voice was wrecked. "You feel incredible. So tight."
He shifted, lifting my hips, and suddenly he was hitting a spot inside me that made the pleasure spike almost unbearably. I writhed beneath him, unable to form words, only sounds—gasps and moans and his name repeated like a prayer.
His hand slipped between us, finding my clit again, rubbing circles in time with his thrusts. The dual sensation was too much. I felt myself hurtling toward the edge.
"Come for me," he growled against my ear. "I want to feel you come apart around me."
The command shattered something inside me. I broke with a scream I couldn't contain, my inner walls clenching around him in rhythmic pulses, pleasure crashing through me in waves that seemed endless. Through the bond, I felt his own release building.
"I love you," he gasped, his thrusts growing erratic. "I love you, I love you—"
He buried himself to the hilt and came with my name on his lips, spilling himself inside me in hot pulses. I felt every throb of his release, the bond making his pleasure mine, extending my climax until I thought I might dissolve entirely.
We stayed joined as the aftershocks faded, neither of us willing to break the connection. His forehead rested against mine, both of us slick with sweat, both of us trembling.
After, we lay tangled together in the moonlit dark. His hand rested over my heart, feeling its slowing rhythm. My head tucked against his shoulder, breathing in the scent of him—pine and smoke and something new now, something that smelled like us, like the beginning of something that couldn't be ended.
"I never thought I'd have this," he said quietly.
"Neither did I."
"All those years after my father—" He paused. Old pain flickered across his features and faded. "I told myself I didn't deserve it. Didn't deserve someone who would look at me the way you do. Stay with me the way you have. Love me the way you do."
I lifted my head, pressing a kiss to the scar at his temple—the one that reminded him every day of the cruelty he'd survived.
"I thought the same thing. After Caleb. After all the rejections. I thought this kind of love wasn't meant for wolves like me. That I was too broken, too haunted, too much of a liability."
"We were both wrong."
"Yes." I smiled against his skin. "I'm glad we were both wrong."
He pulled me closer, tucking the blankets around us. His arms tightened like he was afraid I might disappear—or like he just couldn't bear any distance between us, not even the width of a blanket's edge.
For now—for this one perfect night—we had everything.
I closed my eyes and let myself rest, held safe in the arms of my mate, listening to his heartbeat slow into sleep.
Whatever came next, we would face it together.
Whatever came next, we had already won the battle that mattered most.
