The door opened just a few minutes after they left. It was Sir Prince.
I wasn’t particularly excited to see him. Daniel was right—if not for his arrogance, I’d be using my arm perfectly well.
“Not a bad sight, but a lot better than when I saved you after that shot,” he said, raising an eyebrow in a teasing manner.
I scoffed in disbelief, squinting my eyes as I shook my head.
“Save me? I saved you. Remind me, what was the reason I got into danger in the first place?” I sneered.
“You followed me without my permission and climbed into my car’s trunk,” he said carelessly with a shrug, his hands tucked into his pants pockets.
I scoffed again, this time with a disappointed chuckle.
“Really? I am sick and tired of whatever you think you are. You’re insane! Instead of being grateful, you’re blaming me?”
I groaned, holding my head as if it would explode if I didn’t.
“All you’re good at is abusing people and bragging about your social status. You may look good on the outside—an idol to many fools out there, with a pretty face—but you and I both know the monster you really are. The real you!”
Now he had a mischievous smirk on his face. He didn’t interrupt me or change his expression as I continued pouring out my anger. I couldn’t believe this man. Daniel was right—he didn’t deserve me risking my life for him, not even a single hair on my head.
“You are nothing but—”
“I’m sorry, and you’re right about the names you called me.”
I stopped, staring at him, too stunned to speak. His face barely showed any indication that he was the one apologizing as he kept smirking. Wait, did he just apologize to me?
“Well, what role am I expecting from you now?” I replied, doubting the sincerity of his apology.
Ignoring me, he continued, his face suddenly turning pale.
“When I saw you in that terrible condition back then, I was so devastated and helpless. At that point, I thought you were actually shot. My heart raced, and I couldn’t control my emotions. A tiny tear dropped from my left eye. I can’t believe it.”
Emotions? What emotions? Does this spoiled, heartless monster even know the meaning of emotions?
I was too angry to appreciate his statement.
“Oh, right, you were worried. I can see that very well. Wow, I’m touched—so emotional,” I muttered sarcastically, rolling my eyes dramatically.
He lowered his eyelids and smiled at me for a while before drawing a deep breath and straightening up.
“I guess my sugarcoated words don’t work on you anymore.”
“They’ve never worked on me,” I corrected sharply.
“Well, that’s unfortunate for me,” he chuckled, walking toward me.
I noticed the new locket necklace resting on his chest, nestled between the open flaps of his black shirt. I also noticed his fresh haircut and ear piercing. Was he about to go to a fashion show?
He looked so handsome that I felt myself stiffen. I frowned at my own thoughts. He may be good-looking, but he’s a red flag. Why should I join those idiots in lusting after a pretty boy with zero character?
“I want to go see my family,” I said abruptly.
“With a freshly wounded arm?” he protested.
“It doesn’t matter. My mother will take good care of me. It’s just my arm, anyway—not like my whole body is paralyzed.”
“I’m afraid I can’t allow that—not until you’re well enough to see your family. You need rest and time to heal.”
“You don’t have to pretend to care for me. Why not just state your real reasons?” I shot back.
Prince tilted his head and rolled his eyes in a way that made me jealous of his sexiness. A man that sexy should be illegal!
I swallowed hard and grew more impatient.
Finally, he replied, “Fine, you’re right. The media’s going to talk. I’m a public figure, and the attack will be in the media sooner or later. Thanks to me, I got you to the hospital. Without that, the headlines would’ve looked like an obituary.”
“There’s nothing worse than you!” I snapped, but deep down, I knew he was right. I had taken a huge risk. I didn’t know what happened afterward. I saved his life, and somehow, he saved mine, too.
I sighed deeply and turned to him.
“After hearing from the nurses about you staying with me last night by my sickbed… I have to admit, you’ve been very kind,” I said, breaking the silence.
“Kind?” he said with sudden irritation. “What did you expect? That I’d put you in a pauper’s ward in a public hospital? For the media to make money out of it and paint me as the bad guy? I’m being careful, not kind. On second thought, you did me a favor, and that’s why you received those treatments.”
I cursed quietly. I knew I’d regret giving him a compliment. This brat always finds a way to make others look bad.
“You’re really going to put it like that?” I frowned.
