LOVE AGAIN:A SECOND CHANCE WITH THE EGOCENTRIC CEO

MUST SAVE THE CEO

Ch. 13 / 120 May 08, 2025

“I promise you, you will regret it if you don’t let me in.”

Just then, Daniel walked into the reception and saw me arguing with the secretary.

“What’s happening, Val?”

“I had a bad revelation yesterday.”

“What! Is it about me?” he replied nervously.

“No! It’s about the new boss, and I have to warn him, but she won’t let me in.”

Daniel looked speechless, then the secretary sighed.

“Fine, I’ll let you go in there, but if I lose my job, I will never forgive you.”

“Thanks,” I replied, walking in.

He looked pissed when he saw me, his brows furrowed tightly. Yet, he still maintained his attractive demeanor, even when angry.

“Who let you in? And under whose order?” he snapped.

“Sir, I—”

Suddenly, my gaze shifted to the personal bodyguard standing by the door.

The bodyguard looked familiar. He was the one behind it—the masked man who shot him. How am I supposed to tell him this in his presence?

“What is wrong with you?… Ms. Kate!!” he called for the secretary.

“Sir, please, can we talk in private?” I pleaded.

“I can’t believe the clowns I have in this company, Ms. Kate!!”

He pressed his phone and called her in.

Kate entered the office, apologizing.

“What’s the meaning of this? Is this office a joke to you?” he snapped at her.

Kate shot me a look. I was sweating heavily, realizing there was nothing I could do about it. I started crying.

This happened before, but my late parents never listened. They said it was just a dream. Then, sixteen-year-old me doubted, cried, and begged them, explaining how terrifying it was to me.

They kissed my cheek, consoled me, and went away—only to die in a plane crash when all they could do was listen and cancel their flight.

I stood by the door with my arms wide open.

“You’re not going anywhere until you listen to me!” I yelled out bravely.

Confused and embarrassed, he stared at me for a moment.

“Can you take care of this?” he told his bodyguard.

The bodyguard bowed in response and dragged me out of the office.

Daniel was there to rescue me, or else I would have been injured when he pushed me violently to the floor.

Other colleagues began to gossip about the recent development.

“Listen, hey Val, listen, you’ve done your best,” Daniel consoled me.

“No, you don’t understand. The sight was horrible, and not to mention, this is a matter of life and death. I can’t just give up. Daniel, it will surely happen.”

“Then it’s his fate. Just let it go. He won’t listen,” Dan replied.

“It’s not his fate. If I can change it, I will feel responsible for not doing anything, knowing it was coming.”

I walked toward the garage and quickly called the police using our company line. They couldn’t ignore it because it was a VIP line. I explained a suspected assassination plan, and they promised to be on the scene.

I found the boot of the car he would be using slightly open. I checked to see if anyone was watching, then sneaked inside.

After a few minutes, the car started moving. I prayed that I could make a difference after all this.

Finally, we arrived at the airport. His sister was the exact girl I saw, wearing the exact dress.

I was lucky; they placed her baggage into her private car, not the boss’s car boot.

As we returned, we reached a checkpoint. I had a flashback; after this scene, the next would be the assassination.

I quickly tried to fake a loud cry.

“It’s okay. Let them check the boot,” I heard the boss’s voice instructing one of his men.

They opened the boot.

Shocked, the police alerted the others to come and see what they had found.

I was carried out, pretending to be weak and just regaining consciousness. My plan was to delay whatever was going to happen and create an obstruction.

The boss was speechless when he saw me. Worse still, I was crying, telling the policemen that I had been kidnapped by him.

He must be regretting his life choice of ever employing a mad woman as a worker.

The bodyguard was the most offended. He knew I was wasting their time with the assassination plan. I tried to delay them as much as possible.

I began telling the never-ending story of how I was gasping for air. I told them that the boss, CEO of F&F, wasn’t aware that his personal guard was the mastermind behind my kidnapping.

“You’re a liar!” the bodyguard screamed back.

“Shut up!!” the policeman shouted at the bodyguard.

“Sir, I’m sorry, but you have to follow us to the police station too,” he said calmly to the boss.

“But… she’s my employee… Umm, what’s your name again? What’s the meaning of this?” he sounded confused and furious. But before I had a chance to reply, a shot rang out and killed the police officer questioning us. Another shot hit the other two policemen. It felt so surreal, like a dream.

I screamed and found cover for my dear life.

The boss’s sister screamed loudly in her car. Another shot was fired inside the car. Her driver was killed. Terrified, she ran out of the car toward her brother.

We both hid behind the car. The boss shielded his sister with his back, while his personal bodyguard pretended to protect him.

Suddenly, another gunshot rang out. Luckily, a police van arrived.

The others had to flee. The police car chased after them. Then, the bodyguard decided to use the chaos as an opportunity to show his true identity and finish the job.

He pointed the gun at the boss, whose expression said it all: disappointment and betrayal.

I didn’t know what I was thinking, but I was fast enough to push the boss down. His sister fell beside him. A gunshot rang out through my ear.

I collapsed on top of him, both hands pressed hard against his chest. His eyes met mine, but they weren’t fierce anymore. They didn’t scare me. Instead, they widened in fear, and a tear dropped from one. He stared into my eyes like a frightened child.

Who could believe that the cold-blooded man could be as scared as a child? But why do I feel dizzy? My right arm hurts.

“Are… are you okay?” he asked, breathing heavily.

For the first time, he sounded like a human being with feelings, not just a robot with no emotion. I wanted to reply, but I couldn’t. I felt so weak and lightheaded, then I blacked out.
