"I never got to thank you," Leila told her husband. She was letting him drop her off today again. It was one of the little things that made Kelvin happy and she was willing to take the risk. Kelvin honked at the vehicle that swerved into their lane, he was driving today again. She kind of preferred him driving because it made her less self-conscious. "About Stars Glow project."
They parked in the spot reserved for Kelvin, her eyes surveyed the garage for any co-workers. No one. She let him carry her on his laps. He babied her too much. It was a bit weird. Sweet but weird. Ever since Kelvin's meeting with Freya, he had become extra cautious around her. He never even mentioned sex anymore.
"Why would you have to thank me?" Kelvin's palms travelled up the base of her neck, she knew before he tilted her head that he wanted to kiss her. "You earned it."
"Yeah. But thanks for making it happen." Star Glows wouldn't have been possible without her husband and she would be a fool not to appreciate that. Leila ducked her head when his lips came for hers. "You will ruin my lipstick," she explained.
The matte red lipstick could be spotted from a mile afar, not her usual style but Kelvin had made a passing comment on her looking the best in red. It was for the same reason she left her hair curling down her shoulders so her husband could weave his fingers through them. Leila was starting to really like him.
Kelvin pouted. "But I want a kiss from my wife."
His stormy eyes were doing things to her heart and body. She took out his glasses from his breast pocket and slid it on his face. There, now she could resist him.
"I'll be late." He puckered his lips and she rolled her eyes before planting a kiss on his nose. His cry of protest made her giggle, she got out of the car first before he did and blew him a kiss. "Have a good day."
"You too, Leila."
There was an unidentifiable emotion in his eyes but she didn't wait to decipher it. Leila met Sarah at the elevator. Her superior offered her a tight smile she couldn't reciprocate. She gave herself a mental check of her outfit. Outfit? Check. Hair? Check. There was nothing the woman could complain about.
They got into the elevator together. "How's work?"
Leila waited. Maybe it was a trap question. Sarah never asked her about work. Sometimes, she would ask about the progress of a project but they haven't had a new project in days. She wiped her moist palms against her skirt.
"Work is good."
The rest of the ride continued in silence. Even if she wanted to speak, the lump in her throat made it impossible. Leila got out of the elevator before Sarah and walked briskly to her office. She was earlier than her other colleagues as usual so no one was there.
Minutes later, they started trooping in and her face brightened up when her flowers arrived. She didn't hide her excitement when she pulled out the card from the bouquet. Lily laughed from her spot and Leila stuck out her tongue. Her relationship with Mike was official. Leila never had to worry about Mike ever bothering her again.
They got down to work. Minutes or maybe hours later, the door opened. Amara stood at the door without moving. Different pairs of eyes pinned her with their gazes when she remained there. It was a bit creepy but the woman looked unbothered.
She stepped away from the door and Kelvin took her place. There was a shift. A sudden quiet, then the scramble to look presentable.
Kelvin didn't walk up to her. It would have been crazy if he did but she still pined for him to look her way. He stopped at Lily's table and she eyed his side profile.
Whatever he said made Lily straighten up and point to Leila. She grew numb as he stalked towards her.
Boss Kelvin was present, she had to act right.
To everyone's surprise, Kelvin pulled out a seat and dragged it by her side. The gasp that echoed in their office didn't come from her but she was just as stunned as they were. He was beside her, smiling like he would have if they were at home and in the comfort of their bedroom.
Leila swallowed. "Sir," she breathed out before he said a word. "What can I do for you today?"
"Everything, Leila," he whispered under his breath. In a louder voice, he said, "You're in charge of Stars Glow?"
"Yes. Yes, Sir." Of course he knew that. They talked about it in the car. She pushed her laptop closer to him with the screen showing the templates of the project.
"I was going through slide five," he said and took over the laptop. She stilled when his fingers touched hers. "There was an error that needs to be fixed now."
Her co-workers had gone back to work, or they were at least pretending to be doing that. This whole visit was suspicious. Kelvin could have sent her a text or asked his assistant to email her with the problem.
Kelvin was typing on her laptop but it wasn't related to the slide. She did her best to disguise her surprise when he opened a blank Word document and began typing.
Dear wife,
I miss you. Please come to my office.
"What do you have to say about this?" he asked.
Leila wiped the entire content on her screen and said, "No, Sir. The request cannot be executed."
His hand descended on her leg, she blew a breath and forced her face into a mask of indifference. She could not make a sound. She must not moan. Typing with one hand was hard for her but Kelvin managed to do that as he typed in another message to her.
Please. Just for a few minutes.
His fingers inched deliciously close to her inner thighs and she found herself pushing her legs apart. Lily's eyes were wide with worry as she stared at the couple. Her friend was worried about her but she didn't have to be. Leila turned slowly to face her naughty husband.
"I'll get back to you on this through your assistant."
Kelvin pinched her clit and she let out a soft whimper. They both knew he wouldn't be getting his way with this request. He wiped his hand on his trouser and stood.
Emotions flickered across his face. "I'll be waiting."
As soon as he was gone, the whole office breathed a collective sigh of relief. Lily rushed to her table.
"Are you okay?" She was more than okay, just a little bit turned on. Kelvin had to finish what he started but she wouldn't give him that satisfaction by going to his office. Lily snatched the laptop from her table. It occurred to Leila a little too late that her husband's message was still on the screen. "What is this, Leila?"
Breathe, Leila. Counting to five under her breath, she waited till her nerves were under her control.
"What is what?" She cringed at how flat her voice sounded.
Lily arched a shaped brow and read out the words Kelvin typed out. "Please. Just for a few minutes." The skin between Leila's legs tingled from imagining those words out of Kelvin's lips but as soon as Lily leaned in, the tingles died. "Are you flirting with the boss?"
"What?" she sputtered. "Why would you even say that?"
An eye roll later, Lily replied, "This is on your screen."
"I was preparing to text someone before he got here."
"Text someone with MS Word?"
"Yes. It's the new thing now," Leila retorted.
"If you say so." She did say so. Lily's interest waned when she figured Leila wouldn't give out more information than she already did. She fell back to the seat Kelvin vacated with a soft thud. "So? What's wrong with slide five?"
Absolutely nothing. Leila forced out a laugh. "I did something stupid. I switched it up with another slide."
Lily nodded but it was as mechanical as her smile. "Just fix it, okay? We have come to far to mess it up."
"Sure."
Her phone vibrated. She tsked at the text.
Kev: Are you coming?
Leila: No. Don't do that again, okay?
Kev: Don't do what?
A groan escaped her. She facepalmed. They would not feign innocence. Kelvin was acting like a needy baby. He always demanded kisses out of the blues and at random places. Now, he wanted her visiting him during work hours. It was against their agreement.
Leila: Stop acting dumb Kev. I'm not coming.
Kev: I just wanted to see my wife.
Leila: You saw me this morning Mr McKenna. What happened to asking your assistant to come get me?
She pictured his face when reading her text and winced at the use of his title. He hated when she called him by his last name but it was one of the ways she knew how to pass her point across to him. Leila got ready to type up a less vicious reply but his text came before she could.
Kev: I couldn't wait for her to do that. I miss you, that's all. But you're right, it was a bad idea coming there. My apologies Mrs McKenna.
Those words were what she wanted to hear. His admission that showing up was an awful idea but it stung. She wiped the stray tear from the corner of her eyes. This man would make her go crazy one day.
