Chapter 225

Ch. 225 / 231 Apr 27, 2026

Fern's Perspective

However, at that very moment, a loud bang shattered my thoughts—"BANG!" The warehouse door was viciously kicked open, sending dust flying and filling the air with a pungent, decaying smell. I instinctively opened my eyes, only to see a tall figure step through the doorway, standing frozen in the intersection of light and shadow, as if emerging from hell, radiating an unmissable aura.

That figure was all too familiar to me—it was Giovanni.

My heart skipped a beat, overwhelmed with a mix of surprise and pain. I hadn't expected Giovanni to be here, and even though I had long accepted that there was no going back to the past between us, seeing him in front of me still made my heart race and left me momentarily breathless.

Elena clearly hadn't anticipated this turn of events either. My face immediately darkened, my gaze fixed on Giovanni like a viper's, and I drew a pitch-black pistol, aiming it menacingly at my head.

"Stop!" Elena's voice was cold and firm. "Take one more step closer, and I'll make her die right in front of you."

I felt my heart stop, as if the entire world had frozen in that instant. I squeezed my eyes shut, already hearing the gunshot in my mind, the cold barrel pressing against my skin. My heart turned to ice. I knew that if I died today, I would be erased from Giovanni's world for good. Perhaps this was the fate I was always meant to meet.

Giovanni's eyes were as still as the sea, his expression unreadable, though a flash of complex emotions flickered in his gaze. After a few long moments of silence, he slowly bent down, unbuckling his knives and weapons one by one, placing them on the ground. The tension in the air was thick, as if everything hung in the balance.

"You let her go," Giovanni's voice was low, yet unwavering. "She and the child are innocent. Don't involve them in this."

"You think you're in a position to make demands?" Elena laughed, her voice dripping with disdain. "How can I listen to you when you can't even control your own fate?"

Elena's gun never wavered, her fingers twitching slightly as she seemed to weigh the seconds between life and death.

"I'm not going to kill her," Elena added coldly, her eyes still unmoving. "But I will make you suffer, just like you made me suffer."

Giovanni raised his head slowly, a flash of anger lighting his eyes. "Suffer?" he whispered, his voice sharp. "You think you're in a position to talk about suffering? You're nothing more than someone who would trample on the dignity of others for your own selfish desires."

Elena's face hardened, and I couldn't help but stare, clearly taken aback by Giovanni's response. She sneered and said, "Do you think you're noble? You forget that your so-called honor and power were built by me and my father." She paused, then added, "I know you already know, don't you, Giovanni? How my father and I used a wizard's potion to create a ‘bond' between you and me, making you feel like you have to be with me. But are you really willing to be at the mercy of others? Is this what you call power?"

Giovanni's anger exploded in an instant as he stepped closer, his eyes fierce as a wolf's. "I've known about your plot for a long time," he said, his voice low and steady. "You're trying to expand your pack with some cheap illusion. But all of it is built on lies. You think you can control me? I've never been under your control, Elena."

Elena's face stiffened, but I couldn't help the sneer that formed on my lips. However, panic flickered in my eyes. "Do you really think revealing this will turn things around?" she spat, her voice full of contempt. "The situation is still under my control. And I'll let you in on a secret—you're not the only one under my control."

The moment the words left her mouth, Elena lowered the gun, aiming it at my head. "If you want her to live," she said, her voice colder than ice, "then kneel, Giovanni. Kneel and show me that you can personally repay the humiliation you caused me back then."

My heart sank. The sight before me was almost unbearable. I looked at Giovanni, my eyes filled with pain and helplessness. I knew that Giovanni was likely torn inside, struggling with whether he would bow to Elena's threats for my sake.

"You can't do it," I whispered, trying to stop him from giving in. "Giovanni, you don't have to give up your dignity for me."

A flash of pain crossed Giovanni's face. He looked at me steadily, as if making an important decision. My heart ached, and my eyes threatened to spill over with tears. I knew this wasn't how I wanted it to end.

"You don't have to kneel," I whispered again, my voice barely a plea. "Don't make compromises for me."

Giovanni's hands trembled slightly, but his eyes remained resolute. "I'll kneel," he said softly, "if you let them go, Elena." He stood tall, staring her down without flinching. "But you may control this moment, Elena, but you can never control my heart."

As his words rang out, the entire atmosphere in the warehouse seemed to freeze. Elena's eyes flared with anger, but she made no further move. I watched Giovanni coldly, sensing the next move in this deadly game.

I held my breath, my heart pounding. I had no idea what would happen next, but I could feel it—Giovanni's resolve had sealed my fate.

The look Giovanni gave me had changed everything.
