Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 223

Ch. 223 / 231 Apr 27, 2026

Fern's Perspective

There was a strange tension in the air when I got home. The moment I opened the door, a gust of icy wind hit my face. The house seemed unnaturally quiet, and the air felt thick and heavy. I couldn't shake the growing sense of unease rising in my chest.

The place was a mess. Papers were scattered across the table, a few books had been knocked off the bookshelf, and shoes and clothes were strewn across the floor, suggesting that something had happened here. My heart sank as I quickly scanned the room, my eyes darting to every corner of the living room, searching for the one person I was most familiar with—my son, Daniel.

"Daniel?" I called out, my voice sounding weak as it echoed through the empty house, but there was no answer. My heart began to race, and my brow furrowed as I hurried through each room, checking every detail. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the bathrooms—everywhere was empty. There was no sign of Daniel.

A memory flashed in my mind. I vividly recalled the call I'd received from Giovanni that morning. His voice had been low and cold, and even though I'd felt an instinctive sense of unease, I hadn't thought much of it at the time. But now, everything clicked, and I understood the cryptic tone of his words.

"He took Daniel."

A shiver ran down my spine, and a wave of anger and fear instantly collided within me, forming an invisible barrier. My hands clenched into fists, my nails digging into my palms as my heart pounded violently in my chest. I couldn't calm down.

"Giovanni, what the hell are you doing?" I gritted my teeth and yanked my phone from my pocket, dialing Giovanni's number without hesitation.

It rang a few times before finally connecting. Without any preparation, I spoke, my voice trembling with a mix of fear and rage. "Giovanni! You took Daniel, didn't you? Why the hell did you do that?"

Giovanni paused for a few seconds, as if weighing his response. Then his voice came through, laced with a hint of confusion and helplessness. "I—I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't take Daniel."

"What are you talking about?" I practically growled, my voice dripping with anger and distrust. "Don't try to deny it. I remember your phone call. What are you playing at?"

"I didn't do what you say I did," Giovanni replied, his tone calm but with a hint of annoyance. "I didn't take your son. I didn't have to do any of this."

I couldn't help but sneer, fury welling up inside me. "You think I'm going to believe you? Lie all you want, but I don't believe a word of it!" My voice was thick with skepticism and anger. "Don't think you can manipulate me into trusting you again. I won't fall for it."

Without another word, I slammed the phone down, my fingers gripping it so tightly that my nails almost pierced my palms. My mind was a chaotic mess, and my anger erupted like a volcano. I was on the edge of losing control.

I looked up, and the silence that surrounded me felt suffocating. Every breath of air seemed heavy, as if my anger and fear had filled the entire room. My vision blurred, and everything around me seemed to fade.

Suddenly, the screen of my phone flashed, snapping me out of my daze. I glanced down and saw a new message. It was brief, but the cold threat in its lines chilled me to the bone:

"If you want to see your son, come here tonight alone."

Followed by an address.

I froze, my heart racing, as if the blood in my veins had turned to ice. My breath quickened, and my grip on the phone tightened. My mind went blank, and my eyes remained fixed on the message, unable to tear away.

I could barely process what I was seeing, my heart pounding with dread. The address was unfamiliar, a place I had never seen before. I wanted to ask myself why I had to go to such a strange place, why I had to face this alone. But my motherly instincts screamed that Daniel might be in even greater danger if I didn't go.

"I can't give up."

I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to stand tall. My heart raced like it might burst, and my hands trembled slightly, but I knew there was no choice. Daniel had to come back safe. I couldn't let anyone—especially not Giovanni—hurt him again.

I took a deep breath, steadied myself, and quickly threw on my coat. I made a call to one of my friends, explaining that I'd be gone for a while and giving a quick rundown of the situation. Then, with determination, I walked toward the address in the text.

Night had fallen, and a chill hung in the air.

The sound of my footsteps echoed eerily through the quiet streets, each step reminding me that everything was about to change. I didn't know what awaited me, or whether I'd actually see Daniel again, or if I could even make it out of this situation unscathed. My heart felt heavier with every passing moment, and my mind was filled with a jumble of thoughts.

But no matter what, I couldn't back down.

This wasn't a moment I could shy away from, and everything seemed to be pushing me toward this unknown destination. My resolve hardened, and my steps grew steadier. Daniel was at the forefront of my thoughts, and I couldn't allow him to fall into any more danger.

Even if Giovanni refused to admit his involvement, I knew he had a hand in this. And I was determined to carry that truth with me into the darkness, until I found my child.
