Time seems to slow down as we watch the flour particles settle on every surface. Our voices become muffled and distorted as we yell and curse at each other, our words swallowed by the thick haze. It's a surreal scene as if we had been transported to another world where everything was monochromatic and hazy.
We all slip and slide in the mess we've created. The flour coats our clothes, hair, and skin, turning us into ghostly figures. Sticky strands of glue cling to my arms like a spider's web as Martha and Tori aim, firing off the last of their ammunition in a gooey assault. With the glue supply depleted, their desperation takes a dangerous turn as Martha charges towards the cubicle, her fists clenched and her feet pounding against the tiled floor. She sends the door flying open with a fierce kick, revealing poor Imogen cowering inside.
Grabbing her by the hair, Martha drags Imogen out into the open.
As the last of our flour and water ammunition falls to the ground with a disappointing thud, our opponents move in for the kill. Sandra and Tori circle us like sharks, ready to strike. But I refuse to be their prey, grabbing Sandra's broken arm and forcing her back with a fierce shove. She cries out in agony, the sound lost in the chaos of our sticky, messy battleground.
Imogen lashes out with a savage scratch that leaves Martha reeling, a deep cut etched into her cheek like a battle scar. But even as we fight tooth and nail, the glue and flour clinging to our skin like a second layer, it's clear that this war is far from over.
As Martha prepares to rub Imogen's face and hair into the flour and glue-covered tiled floor, my body is suddenly overtaken by primal energy. My teeth grow into sharp canines, my nails transform into razor-sharp claws, and a fierce growl erupts from my throat.
With a ferocious leap, I launch myself at Martha, grabbing her by the neck and slamming her against the wall with a bone-shattering force. The impact cracks the wall around her, sending tiny fractures spidering out in every direction.
Martha screams in terror, her eyes bulging with fear, 'Rose is a monster!'
Martha gasps for air, struggling to break free from my grasp that tightens. I can feel the rage pulsing through my veins, and I know I need to let go before I hurt her more.
Tori rushes up behind me, intent on freeing Martha, but Janie steps forward and casts a spell, her voice echoing through the room. 'Restraino Detainous!' she shouts, and a chain of smoky tendrils wraps around Tori, immobilising her.
In the midst of the chaos, a puff of black smoke appears, and the spectral black cat, Mister Kal, materialises before us. With lightning speed, he bolts towards Sandra, who's attempting to flee, exploding into a cloud of dark dust that covers her in a shroud of particles that crawl over her skin, and I realise she’s covered in thousands of fleas.
Sandra erratically scratches her skin with her good arm. ‘They're biting me! Get them off,’ Sandra shrieks, clawing at her skin with her good arm.
Another puff of smoke appears, and Mister Kal appears again, his paws planted firmly on the ground as he prepares for his next move, his fur bristling with energy.
But even as the battle rages around me, I struggle to control the rage within me. My claws dig lightly into Martha's neck, and I fight the urge to let them sink in deeper, to rip her apart with my bare hands.
'Janie, I don't want to hurt Martha,' I say, my voice strained with the effort of holding back. 'But my wolf is taking over. I can't stop.'
'What do we do? There has to be a way to make you stop,' Imogen says, her voice trembling with fear.
'Please, don't kill me,' Martha pleads, squirming in my grip.
Suddenly, Xander's voice echoes through the room, his words dripping with contempt. 'Of all the creatures that exist in Felderia, you had to be a werewolf. I loathe werewolves,' he sneers. 'Why couldn't you have been a witch? Or even a vampire? That would have been a much better option being my soulmate's best friend,' he groans.
'Xander?' Janie says, her voice filled with confusion.
'Hey, sweet cheeks,' Xander says casually, a smile playing across his lips as if the war raging around us is nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
Xander pulls a small book from inside his cloak, holds it open with one hand while hovering his other over the book, and says, ‘Beastiabindus,’ a blue elemental image of a beast appears and then shoots towards me. A thick ethereal silver chain appears and wraps itself around me, causing me to let go of Martha, who plonks to the ground and shuffles backwards into a corner, holding her neck. I cry out in pain as the silver burns my skin.
‘Xander, you’re hurting her,’ Janie says as she stands beside him.
‘I know, but it’s only for a moment,’ he tells her.
Before I can say anything, Xander reaches into another pocket in his cloak, pulling out a small black case. He flips it open to reveal a set of syringes filled with a different coloured fluid.
Xander's gaze settles on the purple syringe, and I feel a knot of fear tighten in my stomach.
‘What are you doing, Xander? You can't inject me with that! What is it?’ I shout, my voice laced with desperation.
‘If you don't want me to inject wolfsbane into you, then you need to control your wolf and retract your teeth and claws before you end up killing someone,’ he says, his eyes locking onto mine.
Angry, I try to break free of the chains so that I can rip Xander’s throat out, but I only whimper in pain as the silver burns my skin.
‘Retrieve your wolf now, or I will inject you,’ he warns.
'Retrieve your wolf now, or I will inject you,' Xander repeats his warning, his voice hard and unyielding.
I try to focus, to control my wolf instincts, but it feels impossible. Tears stream down my face as I sob, feeling completely powerless. ‘I can’t,’ I sob. A tear falls from my eye and splashes on the ground.
'Xander,' Janie says, her voice filled with concern as she reaches to touch his arm.
'I'm sorry,' he tells her, his voice softening slightly. 'I wouldn't do this if I didn't have to. It won't kill Rose or hurt her. It will just weaken her, I promise.'
Janie's head drops, and she lets go of his arm. My heart sinks as I realise there's no escaping what's about to happen.
‘No, no, no,’ I cry out, trying to break free.
Xander slams the needle into my arm, and I feel the poison rush through my bloodstream instantaneously. Everything becomes blurry, and I feel so tired. My teeth and claws retract, Xander clicks his fingers, and the spell restraining me disappears.
