Chapter 144: The DNA Test Slip

Ch. 144 / 153 Dec 06, 2025

Pete's face fell as he dejectedly lowered his head. Without saying another word, he entered the car, looking sad.

Although Housekeeper Win didn't like Valentine Anderson and didn't wish for Andrea to end up with him, she would never turn Pete against his father. She had her morals.

Taking the driving seat, she drove Pete to the Singers' mansion. As soon as Pete got out of the car, he noticed the bustling atmosphere. Looking around, he saw that the usual red balloon that hung in the wind to the east of the mansion, always reminding him of Lucas, was gone.

He quickly ran over, only to find that the entire playground was nowhere to be found. He stood there, dumbfounded and in disbelief.

Housekeeper Win came over, sighing dejectedly. She knew this would happen. "Young Master Pete, don't be sad. Your dad has built an even bigger and better playground for you."

Pete turned to her, his eyes brimming with tears, teardrops rolling down his cheeks. He was so angry that he started sobbing, and the only word that came out of his little pouting mouth was, "Why?"

When Housekeeper Win heard his question, she felt sad but knew there was nothing she could say to comfort him.

Fortunately, Andrea and Valentine Anderson had heard of Pete's arrival. When they learned he was at the former playground, they quickly rushed over.

When Pete saw Valentine Anderson, his face turned red with anger, and he roared in frustration and anguish, "Are you really my father?"

Valentine Anderson wasn't angry; he simply smiled and replied, "Dad is the wrong. I'm sorry, son. I've built you a new playground, and it's twice as big as the old one."

Pete was dumbfounded by Valentine Anderson's calm reaction and words. It was unexpected, as in their few arguments, Valentine Anderson had always responded angrily. This time, he was much calmer.

Snapping out of his shock, Pete blinked, and more tears rolled down his cheeks. He looked even sadder as he said, "Do you think it can just be replaced? Can you bring back the special moments I spent with my friends in that playground? It’s not just a playground; it’s become a part of me."

With that, he burst into tears and ran off. Andrea, seeing Pete's fragile heart breaking, looked sad but simply glanced at Valentine Anderson and said, "I will try to talk to him."

She didn't say another word and strode into the house. Valentine Anderson smiled; he was happy that Pete had at least unknowingly acknowledged him as his father. He burst into joyful laughter.

Humming, he walked inside the mansion. Housekeeper Win, who was standing beside him, was speechless. She wondered what Valentine Anderson was thinking that made him so excited.

She quickly turned around and followed him into the house, surprised to see him head into the kitchen.

Watching Valentine Anderson hum and ready the pots to cook, she asked tentatively, "Sir Valentine, do you know how to cook?"

Smiling sheepishly, Valentine Anderson replied, "Of course. I'm going to prepare seafood for my son and wife."

Housekeeper Win immediately responded, "Sir Valentine, Pete doesn't eat seafood. If he does, he always throws up."

Hearing this, Valentine Anderson's face filled with gloom, and his eyebrows knitted tightly as he remembered that Lucas, his twin brother, also couldn't eat seafood because it made him throw up.

"Sir Valentine," Housekeeper Win called out to him when he didn't speak for three whole minutes.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Valentine Anderson smiled. He didn't dwell too much on the coincidence and went about preparing another dish.

After finishing his cooking, Valentine Anderson went to Pete's room.

He didn't knock; instead, he opened the door and immediately dropped to his knees.

When Andrea and Pete saw Valentine on his knees, they were both shocked.

Looking remorseful, Valentine Anderson said apologetically, "Pete, I'm sorry. I've been a terrible father. I promise I'll never make you sad again. From this day onward, I'll always strive to make you happy. Even if you don't see me or call me father, I won't be dissatisfied or angry. Just consider me your friend."

When Andrea snapped out of her shock, she quickly got up, walked towards Valentine, and anxiously said, "Get up, why are you kneeling for your son?"

"I won't stand until Pete forgives me," Valentine Anderson insisted stubbornly, refusing to get up.

Seeing his biological father on his knees, Pete panicked. He quickly got to his feet, ran over, and nervously said, "Dad, please get up. I have forgiven you."

Valentine Anderson smiled brightly and stood up. "Pete, I prepared your favorite meal. You must be hungry. Come with me to the dining table."

Pete's eyes lit up with joy. He loved eating food prepared by Lucas Anderson, so his expectations were even higher when Valentine told him he was the one who cooked.

"Daddy, let's go. I'm really hungry," Pete said excitedly.

Valentine Anderson chuckled with a grin. As expected, to coax a child, you only need to appear vulnerable, and they will fall for it.

They moved to the dining table, where Valentine Anderson actively served Andrea and Pete like a dutiful father.

Although Pete enjoyed the food, he found Lucas Anderson's cooking tastier, so he didn't finish his meal as he usually did. After drinking some water, he excused himself to start his homework.

When they were done eating, Valentine Anderson gathered the plates to wash. The maids assigned to do it were startled by his actions and quickly persuaded him, "Sir Valentine, you don't have to dirty your hands. We'll take care of it."

Valentine Anderson shook his head and insisted, "It's just washing plates. I can handle it."

He personally washed all the dishes, whistling as he worked. Suddenly, his phone beeped.

Drying his wet hands, he pulled out his phone. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw the contact who had sent the message.

It was Margret Willow. Furrowing his eyebrows, he clicked on the message and was momentarily surprised. "A DNA test slip," he mumbled.

As he read the DNA test results comparing him and Pete, his face darkened, and the atmosphere in the kitchen became tense.

Housekeeper Win, who was busy writing down the ingredients needed in the kitchen, was surprised to see Valentine Anderson, who had been happy just moments ago, now looking ferociously angry.
