Alpha's Caged Love

Healing the mate

Ch. 72 / 159 May 05, 2026

Kylie watched as her Max returned to her wearing nothing but a pair of baggy pants. She was taken aback because he had really discovered a pair of pants in the woods, but she reasoned werewolves were likely to plan for such matters. He towered over her and was likely approximately 6 feet, 3 inches tall. He exuded power and masculinity in equal measure. Her attention was instantly pulled to the well-defined abdominal muscles and chest muscles he possessed, and she had an overwhelming need to run her hands and tongue over every inch of his body. Kylie became red in the face as she realised the path her thoughts were taking. He was not the first werewolf she had met; in fact, she had grown up with werewolves, but none of them had ever made her feel this way.

When Max made his way closer to his mate, he turned to look at her and saw that she was deep in contemplation. He took advantage of the chance to learn as much as he could about her. She stood at about 5 feet 6 inches tall; she was not short for a lady. Her brown hair was long and wavy, and he couldn't resist the urge to run his hands through it. She had an hourglass body. Max had to fight the urge to groan out loud as she bit her bottom lip while she was thinking because she was so cute. Before he started demanding that she divulge every thought that passed through her mind, he got to the task at hand, which was changing her tyre, because he was envious and wondered what she had been thinking about that caused her to get that sexy intense expression on her face. He then got to work on the task at hand.

"Remove the trunk's lid. Grab the jack and the spare tyre."

Kylie complied with his request and then watched as he changed her flat tyre with the spare so quickly. It would have been possible by a human. The car was prepared to go within a few brief minutes.

"Thank you, Max., I am thankful for your help." She stated this in all seriousness.

"Kylie, it was a delight serving you. Let's have you checked out at the hospital right now."

" Max, I'm doing just fine. I truly don't have any reason to go to the hospital. OK?" she said rather impatiently.

Kylie pondered why she was being so prickly with him and then recognised that it was because she was so attracted to this man that it worried her.

Everything about him appealed to her, and she despised the fact that she enjoyed his demanding tone and the way he appeared to expect obedience from her. But she couldn't help but be drawn to him. The easiest way to deal with it was sarcasm and fury. She wasn't so naïve as to believe that this supernatural creature would genuinely be interested in her, so she reasoned it would be best to just cut ties with him now in order to protect her heart from any potential anguish that could arise in the future.

Max gave her an amused grin in response to her irritated tone and then asked, "Just one more question... What time do you get off work?"

Kylie said, "I work graveyard shift," while appearing preoccupied.

"What the heck, why?" He asked with concern.

Kylie berated herself for being so obsessed and for genuinely telling him about the working conditions at her place of employment, but then she came to the realisation that he would not know where she worked anyhow. Although he could get her heart pumping in a hurry, she had no intention of encouraging him.

"Look, Max, I want you to know how much I value your help, but I don't believe it would be wise for us to engage in socializing. Even though you come across as a really kind person and all, I just don't see the sense in us becoming friends."

Kylie stared up into his sparkling eyes, and she felt a lump form in her throat, as she expected the reaction he would give her.

He spoke to her in a low voice that was thick with assurance and added, "I don't simply want to be friends with you, Kylie. Whether you are aware of it right now, you are going to be mine."

Kylie shrugged her shoulders, squinted her eyes, and then climbed into her car, completely oblivious to the fact that her heart had literally just missed a beat. "Regarding that, Mr. Rudin, we will have to see. I hope you have a pleasant evening."

Kylie had already started the car and was driving away before Max had the chance to stop her. She did her best to keep her focus on him for as long as she could, before finally releasing a sigh of relief and attempting to slow her racing heartbeat. She had no clue what Max had meant by his possessive remarks, and she had no plans to find out what he had been referring to. She would not allow herself to be lured in by him even if, by some miracle, he found her. She would not give in to his charms. No matter how hard Max tried to entice her, she would not end up in his bed.

"Why are you driving like crazy?" Selena said as the car took a sharp turn.

Although mostly healed, her wounds were still so tender. But she couldn't bring herself to tell Cayden.

"You need to be healed." He mumbled absent-minded.

She realized what he was doing a moment too late. After parking the car, he grabbed her and carried her all the way to his room.

He carefully deposited her on the bed and traced his fingers, traced the bite and scratch marks. She looked up into his eyes. They were livid.

She felt the change in his attention as he removed her shirt and focused on her abused flesh. His eyes glowed faintly.

"Take everything off," he commanded in a deep voice, pushing Selena off the bed to my feet. There was a finality to his tone and Selena didn't think resisting him would get her very far.

Selena stood at the edge of the bed and slid the pants off of her hips. He looked outraged.

"Why did you come out of the car when I had clearly instructed you to stay inside? I want to know?" He commanded.

Strong arms wrapped around her shoulders and pulled her to his chest, her back to his front. Selena felt the angry pants of air he released as he held her.

"I couldn't see you die!" she cried to him. "Despite everything, I can't get off this urge to protect you. I can't help it; the mate bond forced me to protect you."

He turned her in his arms. She faced him. He wasn't angry anymore. He looked pleased.

"Are you sure it was just because of the mate bond?" He spoke. "Have you ever thought that maybe you have feelings for me?"

As he talked, Cayden's hands roamed gently over her breasts and stomach. His other hand stroked her back from my neck to my buttocks. She shivered slightly and pressed back into his hands.

"No, I just wanted to protect you because your pack needed you."

It was an outright lie.

"So, let me do the same for you," he rasped.

"What?" She looked up at him curiously.

"Right now, my wolf wants to heal you, because I can't see you in pain. Let me return the favour. Please." He whispered and pulled her towards the bed. Selena felt the edge touch the back of her leg and she fell on it. Leaning on her elbows, she observed Cayden.

Backing from the bed and standing in front of her, the man transformed into the wolf. His black hair grew to cover his entire torso. His enormous chest expanded, as did his lengthy legs. Where his face had been, a vicious snout developed, and terrible talons emerged at the tips of his fingers. He crept back onto the bed, creeping over her.
