The next morning, Nelly was hit with the realization that she had forgotten something.
She then turned to the spot beside her; no one was there. She reached out to touch the bed, but there were no signs of anyone sleeping there. Immediately, her brows furrowed.
Did Alpha Kilian not come back last night? He's the kind of person who would leave everything behind and come, though...
After a moment of hesitation, Nelly got out of bed to wash up. After cleaning herself up, she went out of the room.
She halted in her tracks when she walked past Donna 's room. Then, she turned to head toward it.
After knocking on the door, Nelly looked down and noticed that it was unlocked. Hence, she pushed the door open and entered.
Donna was sprawled on the bed, sound asleep.
Nelly could not stop her lips from curling at the sight of her daughter. She walked over to tuck away the girl's messy strands of hair before saying, “Lazy little bug, how are you all sweaty from just sleeping?”
Donna groggily opened her eyes. When she registered the face in front of her as her mother's, she mumbled, “Nelly , why are you up so early?”
“I... slept early last night,” Nelly replied.
That seemed to make Donna sober up a little as the girl looked at her before scanning her surroundings. “What are you looking for?” Nelly asked.
She narrowed her eyes and queried, “Where's Daddy?”
“I'm right here, yet you're looking for Daddy?” Nelly responded, deliberately making herself look jealous.
“That's not it. I stopped Daddy before he could go back to your room last night. I asked Daddy to tuck me in, and he said he wanted to return to your room to make me a little sister...” As Donna spoke, a smile crept onto her face.
The very thought of it made her happy. Nelly stiffened.
Help Donna make a little sister? Did I say yes to it?
She furrowed her brows. If that was what Alpha Kilian told Donna , then where is he?
With that thought in mind, Nelly turned to Donna and said in a soft voice, “It's still early, so sleep for a little longer.”
Donna was still tired, so she nodded and replied, “Okay.”
After lying back down, Donna rolled onto her side and fell back asleep. Nelly only stood up and stepped out of the room after tucking the girl in. Did something happen last night?
As Nelly mulled over the matter, she went down the stairs. Yet, just as she took two steps down, she heard a voice from the doorway.
“It's unlikely that they'll do anything rash after today, but regardless of everything, we have to be on our guards still. Have the others be careful, too,” Alpha Kilian said.
“You, on the other hand, are what I have to talk about. If Nelly catches a glimpse of your injury, I'm afraid you'll have a hard time explaining things to her!” Dave said. Right as those words left his mouth, he saw the person on the top of the stairs.
He froze.
Since Alpha Kilian did not realize that Nelly was within hearing range, he replied, “It's fine. I'll explain it to her. As long as you say nothing about this, I'll be fine.”
“Ahem.” Dave intentionally cleared his throat.
They had been working together for many years, so Alpha Kilian registered Dave's hint right away. Lifting a brow, he then suspiciously raked his gaze across his surroundings. When he finally saw the woman at the stairs, he tensed up.
The two of them looked disheveled when Nelly saw them, and she heard what they had said.
Dave and Alpha Kilian shared a look before Alpha Kilian said with a smile, “Nelly , why are you up so early today?”
A menacing smile grew on Nelly 's lips, and she ambled her way down the stairs. Every step she took sent a chill running down their spines.
“Yes, if I wasn't early, I wouldn't have heard what you guys just said,” she uttered in a low voice. Words eluded Alpha Kilian .
Soon, Nelly was at the bottom of the stairs. At that moment, Dave said, “Um, I'll go to the room to wash up. Enjoy your talk.”
With that said, he hastily excused himself from the area before they could even respond.
Alpha Kilian parted his lips to say something upon seeing Dave scurry away, but when he saw the look Nelly was giving him, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.
Nelly continued to look at him, still smiling, but the gaze in her eyes was exceptionally cold.
Alpha Kilian 's heart skipped several beats as he stared at her, but there was nothing he could do other than act shamelessly. Thus, he spread his arms and walked over to her. “Nelly ...”
Just as he was about to reach her, she shot him a look that made him freeze midmovement. “Nelly , I didn't mean to do this,” he explained.
“Then what did you mean to do?” she questioned. “I just didn't want you to worry.”
“And?”
Alpha Kilian took in a deep breath and swiftly said, “I'm sorry.” “Is that what I want to hear?”
“Then what do you want to hear?” Alpha Kilian responded, pretending not to know what she was asking for.
Nelly inclined her head. “Okay.” Then, she turned to leave.
Alpha Kilian hastily stepped forward to stop her. “Nelly ...” Nelly remained silent, still trying to leave the room.
At that, Alpha Kilian placed his hand on his arm and let out a low moan. “Ugh...” Nelly 's head whipped around. “What's wrong?”
“I pulled my wound,” Alpha Kilian mumbled.
“Let me see.” Nelly 's worry was written across her face, and she moved over to check on his wound. Right then, Alpha Kilian stretched out his arm and pulled her into his embrace.
“It doesn't hurt now that you feel bad for me,” he whispered to her. It was only then Nelly realized he had been faking it.
Nevertheless, although the pain was faked, the injury was genuine, and Nelly 's heart did ache for him.
Therefore, she made no words of protest and let him hug her.
Alpha Kilian continued to hug her as contentment filled his heart. However, when he realized he was hearing nothing from Nelly , he noticed something amiss and let go of her. What greeted him was Nelly 's unhappy expression.
“What's the matter?” he asked.
Nelly continued to stay silent, her gaze fixed on the wound on his arm. His shirt was black, so the blood that soaked half of his sleeve was not easy to see. Yet, as she focused on it for long enough, she could see the damp patch, and her heart skipped a beat.
She then slowly rolled up his sleeves. Just as she was about to reach his wound, Alpha Kilian reached out to stop her.
“I'm fine,” he said. “It's just a scratch, and it doesn't hurt. Trust me.”
Nelly 's silence went on as she continued to roll up his sleeve. Despite having prepared herself for the moment, she still froze upon seeing his deep wound.
She clenched her fists and said, “I'll get the doctor.”
“The wound just looks frightening, but it's nothing serious. I don't need a doctor,” he told her. “But...”
