The Alpha rushes at me, grabs me by the throat, and slams me against the wall. Particleboard and dust stir around me. “Don’t tempt me,” He snarls between clenched teeth.
I get to him, and for some odd reason, him holding me against the wall with one hand has me feeling some type of way. Damn, does this fucktard turn me on? No way! Maybe I like it rough.
Oh lord, I’m a freak.
The warmth of his hand around my neck, his bulging biceps as he holds my back against the wall, sends tingles surging down to my intimate parts.
I’ve only masturbated once but never really thought about sex since, but my mind is clouded with it now.
Not the time Sakari. I yell at myself.
He finally let me down, and my lungs greedily take in the air they so desperately needed.
“Don’t ever test me,” he says sternly, then pulls me by the wrist, dragging me towards the back of the house.
I try breaking free of his grip, but there’s no use. “Where are you taking me?” I ask frantically.
He laughs wolfishly. “You humans are so easy to scare,” He asserts, shaking his head as he continues down the hall.
“I am not scared of you, asshole!” I hiss. I’m tired of him assuming I am a weak link.
He spins around, tightly gripping my chin between his thumb and index finger. His face is inches from mine. “You are a tiny human. I have the strength to take anything I want, and you have no control over it, so I suggest you stop with your backtalk,” he sneers, shoving my face away.
If he is saying what I think, he can fuck off. Is this how the whole wolf shit works? Does the Alpha get what he wants whenever he wants it?
“Whatever,” I huff as he continues, pulling me behind him.
He only shakes his head, as I’m still giving him trouble.
We come to a back room. It’s not as bad as I expected, but I’m not saying it’s the Hilton. We walk through the door, and he shoves me towards the bed, and I slam on it from the force. He’s strong, but then again, I’m a measly eighteen-year-old. Of course, he has the upper hand.
I help myself sit on the bed and turn to face him. “What now?” I ask. “You waiting for more wolves? Or better yet, your friends, the bloodsuckers to join you on your feast?” I laugh, knowing I’m not much to eat.
I am not sure why I think the situation is hilarious, but I can’t help but laugh. I mean, I’m dead just like the rest of my reservation. I’m just the only one going to go out as a colossal pain in the ass.
He rubs his forehead. He’s getting a migraine. Which I find funny. “Do you ever shut up?” He looks at me through his fingers while still massaging his forehead.
I tap my finger on my lips, thinking it over. “Uh, not really. Jay always says I would never make a good mime,” I chuckle.
Glancing up, I notice the Alpha giving me a stern expression. He’s unreadable. “Who the fuck is Jay?” he asks hostilely.
“None of your business, Mr. nosey pants!” I backtalk.
Wolfman crosses the room in haste. He forces me down on the bed, spreading my legs for him to fit in between—his body’s heavy, but it feels good under his weight. His knee connects with my center, and I can’t hold back the moan escaping my lips as his large hand wraps around my throat again.
The Alpha stares me dead in the eyes. “I can smell your arousal human,” his voice husky. Which makes me gulp.
How the fuck can he smell that good? Oh, wait, he’s like a dog. That’s kind of how they communicate, right?
But I play it off. “Gross,” I gag, trying to shove him off, but he doesn’t budge in the slightest.
“Who is Jay?” He growls. His aggression is top level.
Why is he so worried about who Jay is?
“Calm down, killer. He’s my best friend, who I’m sure either your pack or the zombie assholes killed him,” I answer so he can calm the fuck down.
Geez, did he think Jay was a threat to his pack?
He’s not some superhero or something. Jay’s an ordinary kid from Blackfoot High. Yeah, he’s God’s gift to women, but he’s only my best friend. He has never thought of me in any other way. I may have had a few dreams about him, but I’d never tell Jay that. I’ll chalk it up to teenage hormones.
“Has he touched you?” The Alpha demands.
Such a weird question, but why not answer him? “No.”
His face goes calm.
Why is he so relieved? Who knew the Alpha was such a weirdo?
“Can I get some food, please? At least fatten me up before you serve me up to your pack. Who wants to eat only bones?” I declare, laughing at my own expense.
“Yeah, okay, what do humans eat?” He asks.
“Um… food,” I reply smartly.
His face creases, aggravated. “What kind of food, smartass?” He stares blankly at me.
I feel proud that he’s getting the hang of sarcasm. “Oh, I’m like a proud parent on graduation day,” I laugh. He doesn’t seem very pleased with my jokes. “Fine, I’m not picky, just no raw meat,” I slide out from under his well-sculpted frame and press my back against the wall. I avert his gaze because if I look at him, I may slide right back under him.
To avoid him, I see the wallpaper’s peeling, so I pull it, and everything comes off.
I peer up at the Alpha. “Oops, sorry,” I say, my mouth in a line.
“Alpha Cree?” A luscious voice calls behind him.
Peeking around him, I see a petite blonde with beautiful blue eyes and a smoking hot bod. I mean, you can crack an egg on the woman’s abs. And her knockers are so perky that I feel jealous that mine make their own decisions and like to go their own ways. She makes me look like a cow compared to her. I’m just curvy. Voluptuous in all the right places, but that still doesn’t get the boy’s attention.
“Oh, now I know your name,” I say, bringing his attention back to me, which I can see Irritates her. She wants his full attention, which brings me back to the wolf that was so aggressive towards me.
It’s her.
Alpha Cree turns back to the blonde. “Sia, tell the others to be ready for a hunt tonight,” he orders. She hesitates as if she doesn’t want to leave us alone, but his gaze forces her to.
“Well, that was awkward,” I declare.
“How do you mean?” Cree asks, confused.
Oh lord, please don’t tell me this man is oblivious to that woman being madly in love with him. Even I can see it, and I have no love life whatsoever. I’m a virgin about to graduate high school. I’ve never even had a genuine kiss by a boy except for Jay, but that was a dare from one of his stupid jock friends at a party. Jay was drunk and trying to impress them, so he accepted. It hurt that he made me feel that way, but we’ve been friends our whole lives. It was easy to forgive him.
“She likes you a lot,” I tell him. “More like she loves you,” I add.
Cree stares blankly at me. “Girl, we don’t just fall in love,” he chuckles.
If my eyes had laser beams, Cree would be a pile of wolfman lava on the floor at the glare I’m giving him. “My name is not girl. It’s Sakari,” I correct him.
“Sakari?” Cree’s expression turns serious as if a light bulb burst in his head.
“Um… Yeah. Why do you look like I just killed your dog?” I burst into laughter. “Ha-ha, that’s hilarious since you’re technically the dog,” but he doesn’t see that as funny, but then again, he doesn’t see much amusing. Cree’s a very dull man. “Tough crowd.” I look away awkwardly.
“Your great-grandmother’s name was Takoda?” Cree asks, still very serious.
I am not sure how he knows that, and I’ll admit it creeps me out. “Yeah, how did you know that?” I ask hesitantly as my eyes search his.
“She was in love with my grandfather after the as you would call them zombies killed her husband,” Cree declares, making quotations marks with his fingers at my name for the fangs.
“What?” I say, stunned. “My great grandmother was in love with a wolf? How? Don’t you only turn on full moons?”
“Not back then. We were free to change when we wanted until a witch cursed us, leaving us stuck in wolf form. Only on full moons could we turn back into humans. Then the meteor hit, breaking the spell. Now we are free again,” Cree explains.
My life has been nothing but an enormous lie. My great-grandmother was a traitor. She loved a wolf. Now let’s add witches to the mix. My life is so fucked!
Cree stands by the door, waiting for more questions, but I’m horrified. I have no clue what else to ask now.
Then one hits me.
“So, are we related?” I ask, feeling dirty for having disgusting thoughts about Cree.
Ew.
The Alpha chuckles. “No, Sakari, my great grandfather died before they could have children. Takoda was his mate. After he died, she died inside as well. We can’t just move on with our lives after we lose our mate.”
That explains a lot. Takoda killed herself, slicing her own throat from ear to ear. No one understood why she did such a thing, but now it all makes sense. I guess love really conquers all. Without it, life means nothing.
Weird coming from someone who doesn’t believe in it. Love is a crock of shit.
My brows lift curiously. “Mate?” I ask, eyeing him in the doorway.
“Wolves have a mate. That’s why I said we don’t just fall in love with anyone. We have one person and only that one person for us. It is rare to get a second chance mate,” He explains.
“Oh, so why does Sia keep trying with you? If you two aren’t mates, why would she look at you like she does?” Curious, I wonder if maybe he rejected her as his mate.
Cree seems irritated with my questions now. “Rest, I’ll be back with food,” he says, coming over and pulling out a rope, forcing my hands to the end of the bed, tying them to the post.
“Hey!” I hiss. “Come on. How am I going to run from a house full of wolves?”
Cree smirks, then leaves.
“Asshole!” I shout after him.
Why the hell is he keeping me here? They should have killed me long ago. It’s ridiculous.
It’s going to be awhile, I’m sure, so I stretch out my legs on the bed and make myself as comfortable as I can while being tied to a bed and not for fun reasons. My eyes flicker open and shut and soon give in to my exhaustion.
