The school day had drained Alessia completely. The weight of her lie sat heavy in her chest, growing with every passing moment. Now, as she made her way toward the security office, she walked carefully, glancing over her shoulder every few steps. The last thing she wanted was for one of her classmates to see her heading there and put the pieces together.
The long hallway leading to the office was dimly lit, the faint hum of the overhead lights the only sound. She was almost there when a soft, breathy noise caught her attention. A muffled moan. Alessia froze.
Her heart pounded as she glanced toward the darker side of the hallway. At first, she saw nothing, but then she spotted two figures pressed against the wall. Her breath hitched as she recognized Caleb. His hands gripped the waist of a girl—a younger student—who was pressed flush against him, their lips locked in a heated kiss.
Alessia felt rooted to the spot, her brain scrambling to process the scene. But the sound of her gasp was enough to catch the girl's attention. She broke away from Caleb, turning wide-eyed toward Alessia.
"What the hell?!" the girl snapped, her voice sharp with embarrassment.
Without another word, the girl darted down the hallway, leaving Caleb standing there, looking both surprised and irritated. His eyes met Alessia's, and for the first time, she saw something in his expression other than smug confidence.
Alessia's instincts screamed at her to walk away, to pretend she'd seen nothing, but before she could take another step, Caleb caught up to her and grabbed her arm.
"What did you see?" he asked, his voice low, almost a whisper.
"N-nothing!" Alessia stammered, pulling her arm back. "I won't tell anyone. I swear."
Caleb's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing as if he was trying to gauge whether or not he could trust her. His usual calm, teasing demeanor was gone, replaced by something much more serious.
Before either of them could say anything else, the office door creaked open, and Alessia's father stepped out, his uniform jacket slung over his shoulder.
"Hey," he called, his voice firm, "take your hands off my daughter."
Alessia's stomach dropped. She watched Caleb's expression shift from surprise to something unreadable as he glanced between her and her dad.
"So it's true," Caleb said quietly, leaning closer to Alessia and lowering his voice so only she could hear. "Your father works here."
Alessia's pulse quickened.
Caleb straightened, his lips curling into a faint smirk. "Let's make a deal," he whispered. "You keep my secret, and I'll keep yours. Deal?"
Alessia stared at him, her mind racing. But before she could respond, her father's voice cut through the moment again.
"Alessia, let's go."
Without a word, she hurried to her dad's side, her cheeks burning as they walked away.

The drive home was tense. Alessia stared out the window, her stomach churning with guilt and shame. Her father's earlier words replayed in her mind, each one laced with disappointment.
"Who was that boy?" he asked finally, breaking the silence.
"No one," Alessia said quickly, her voice too sharp.
Her father glanced at her. "Did he hurt you?"
"No!" she said, her voice a little too loud this time. "It was nothing. He was just... asking me something about school."
Her father didn't respond immediately, but Alessia could feel his eyes on her.
"You're not telling me everything," he said softly.
Alessia's stomach tightened. "It's nothing, Dad. Just drop it, okay?"
He sighed, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. "Alessia, I don't know what's going on with you, but this isn't like you. You've never lied to me before."
Her chest ached at his words, but she couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth. What would he think if he knew about the lie she'd told her classmates? About Caleb? About the deal she'd made?
"I'm fine," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her father didn't push further, but the silence that filled the car was heavier than anything Alessia had ever felt before.
