Eir's POV
Drifta had refused to resurface for so long, kept away, and refused to help me, but this was her breaking point. Not that I didn't understand her rage, sorrow, and hatred, but now her power surged through me, demanding space and forcing me back. The sensation felt incredibly good; I felt stronger and no longer alone, but at the same time, the twin's smile made my skin crawl.
"What? Did you expect us to let her live? She died the moment you crawled around the corner!"
They both laughed. Standing side by side butt naked but without a trace of shame. Strutting their pathetic meat snakes and muscles while relishing in the fact that they let Lydia die. Not only that, my father, before they had their warriors, locked the children's safehouse and lit it up, letting them burn alive. Drifta boiled inside of me, every single drop of blood rushing through my body heated and itching beneath my skin.
My eyes shifted, and my teeth started to tingle, pushing, and my nails irked against my skin. Not questioning why she held back so long, I just went with it, happy she finally was here. Grateful, she finally decided to stand up for herself, for us, and for every poor soul that ever crossed paths with these monsters. The strange thing is she stopped the transaction there, my bones didn't start breaking, and my skin didn't start tearing. A strange mixture between wolf and human.
Long talons pressed against my palms as my hands clenched and sharp canines scraped inside my cheeks. I could feel Drifta's hatred, could feel the need to kill them build up inside of me, and the need and want to taste their blood became unbearable.
"Oh, so she didn't like that? Then I guess it is a good thing nobody told her what we did to that flying lizard, right brother?"
"I almost forgot about that! I wonder what she would have done if she knew!"
They laughed and talked to one another like I wasn't there. Still, there was no doubt they did it just to piss me off. Piss us both off. Despite knowing it, despite Drifta also seeing right through their stupid games, anger rolled off us both. These people were monsters, through and through! No, actually, they could not claim to be human at all! Demons from the deepest and darkest holes of hell. The devils spawn! Their mocking fueled my rage, while their snickering rose the heat of my fire. Who in their right mind could laugh talking about dying people? Dying and dead children?!
"I know! Why don't we show her who started it all?"
This caught my attention, and confusion made enough room to push the rage aside enough for my muscles to loosen up just the slightest. Still glaring at them, still no desire to speak a word, I followed their wicked grins and beaming eyes as both turned their full focus toward us. My upper lip twitched, a subtle warning as I took a hesitant step backward and crouched a little down when they started walking towards me. Nonchalantly, like they owned the world, they closed the space between us, but before I could snap at them or growl or react in any way, Ezra grabbed my head.
Drifta's reaction rushed through me the second he touched us, but we both were abruptly cut off from this world. Images flashed through my mind, and a lightning sensation burned through my veins as I gasped for air. Myranda in a golden dress, so tight you could see her heartbeat through it, leaning all over Toke while laughing at a poor soul crying at their feet. Several faces I did not recognize, amongst them a beautiful blond woman fully dressed in shiny armor. Despite her beautiful features, her face was hard as stone, watching the pleading man on the ground. Then I saw him, Hades.
Drifta growled, and I could hear myself scream before I was ripped out of the strange scenario that just kept me a prisoner in my own mind. Breathing rapidly, I stared right into Ezra's eyes, and Drifta's deep and rugged voice coated mine to the unrecognizable. Blood trickled down his arms as she spoke, piercing his skin with our elongated nails;
"You are not worthy! Keep your trick to yourself, fallen elf!"
Finally, a reaction flashed over his face, something other than malice and cruelty; shock and a tiny drop of insecurity. And Drifta sucked that insecurity right up, devoured it while taking a step forward,
"Despicable and unforgivable midget! You were never worthy! Not alone, not together, stained Ljósálfar! Never will they let you back! Not even the wicked Dökkálfar would accept you, so crawl back to where you came from."
The change shifted beneath my skin and crawled between my muscles and veins as I saw them both in a new light. The unforgivable pair, the hated twins of Álfheimr. Cursed to live eternity in human form, but somehow, they have learned to merge and bring to life the beast within them. All I now knew came flushing through Drifta's mind and memories. Old tales and forgotten myths. My throat burned, and the pressure on my skin increased as I watched the despicable duo finally step back before us. But I had no intention of letting them go; they did not belong here. Did not deserve the light of the moon goddess or the warmth of the sun.
"We will be, and it will all be because of you!"
Jacob laughed, and I snarled forward.
"EIR!! Stop! Don't do it!"
The sound of my name echoed through the little room deep down in the cave. Panic. Maya's voice shivered with panic. My head snapped in the direction of her voice, taking in the sight of her shining armor and sword. Different. She's different; Drifta's thoughts echoed mine while we looked her up and down.
"DON'T DO IT!"
Drifta knew what she meant, and the second she thought it, I knew too, but it was too late. The twins ran toward one another, melted into one massive white wolf, and attacked. My bones broke, shifted, and my skin tore open to give room for white fur. The dark cave lit up with a flashing bright light seconds before I landed on all four paws. Blinded and not shifting fast enough, pain shot through my shoulder and neck. The twin's canines cut through skin and muckles, and the second Drifta's canines sank into his back and threw him away; he was there again. Claws and canines, tearing my skin open, coating my white fur with deep red blood. Growls and snares, skin tearing, and bones breaking.
The room lit up again, and the pain rippled through me like lightning bolts. Hurt and shocked, our eyes snapped in the direction of Maya. The light came from her! Her eyes were dark and covered with shadows. Another bolt of lightning hit us again, shooting right from her sword. A whimper of pain and betrayal burned inside my throat, and that second of inattention cost me gravely. The white wolf's jaws locked around my neck. I didn't even have time to understand why Maya wanted to hurt me, didn't understand what happened before the incredibly powerful grip tightened, and with one harsh shake, darkness devoured me. Devoured us both.
I had expected my life to flash through my mind, but there was nothing but darkness. Thick and heavy, I felt nothing and saw nothing. I heard voices shouting, swearing, and howling fading away as the heavy pressure increased all around me. Pressing me down, pressing me away, through the ground and deeper. Numbness, nothing, falling.
I stopped thinking, stopped wanting, and stopped wondering. Deeper and deeper, more and more I lost. The more I forgot, the more I stopped caring until it all eventually just stopped. Disappeared, and so did I.
