The Kane family history was woven tightly with stories of loyalty, love, and the occasional scandal. Zane’s relationship with Pamela had always been a shining chapter—childhood sweethearts who grew up dreaming of forever. At 20, Zane had shocked the family by marrying Pamela in a quiet ceremony, skipping the fanfare the Kane name often demanded. Pamela, with her grace and sharp mind, was more than just a beautiful face. She came from a well-respected family and had carved her path as a successful fashion designer.
Alessia had admired Pamela for her poise and determination, which made the accusations against Zane even harder to believe. Sitting in her office at Kane Enterprises, Alessia stared blankly at the headlines splashed across her screen, her mind racing.
Her phone buzzed, breaking her thoughts. It was Christian, her husband. She picked up immediately.
“Hey, Christian,” Alessia said, her voice edged with urgency. “I need your help.”
“You don’t even have to ask,” Christian replied, his tone calm but focused. “I’ve already read the reports. Tell me what you need.”
“Zane,” Alessia began, her voice catching slightly. “They’re saying he pushed Pamela off the balcony. But he swears it was an accident. I know Zane. He would never—”
“Slow down,” Christian interrupted gently. “Take a deep breath. I believe you. What’s the plan?”
“I need a private investigator,” Alessia said. “Someone discreet, thorough. I can’t trust the police to get this right. They’ve already painted Zane as guilty in the media.”
“You’re in luck,” Christian said. “I’ve got someone perfect for the job. His name’s Marcus Kane—not related, before you ask—and he’s one of the best PIs in the city. I’ll call him now and have him meet you at the house.”
Alessia exhaled, relief washing over her. “Thank you. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You’d still figure it out,” Christian said, his voice warm. “But I’m glad you don’t have to. Stay strong, okay? Zane’s lucky to have you.”
Alessia smiled faintly, her grip tightening on the phone. “I’ll call you once I’ve spoken to Marcus.”
“I’ll be waiting,” Christian replied. “I love you.”
“Love you too,” Alessia said softly before hanging up.
