The Pirate’s True Love

CHAPTER 92

Ch. 92 / 150 May 06, 2026

POV: Beth

Night folds around us like black velvet drenched in brine. Lanterns creak, swinging on ropes, casting gold across wet planks. Everyone sleeps uneasy—whispers of my power still sticky in the air.

I can’t sleep.

I toss under rough blankets until frustration drags me to the deck. Salt wind hits my face like truth. The ocean glitters dark and endless, and somewhere inside me something ancient stirs—deep as trenches, hungry as tides.

I grip the rail. “Why me…”

Waves answer in hushes. Moon splits into silver on water—then ripples wrong. Deep wrong.

Something massive shifts below the surface.

My breath snags. “No…”

A shadow rises—enormous, myth-swallowing. Tentacles first—thick as masts, glistening black-blue. Water explodes upward as a monstrous head surfaces, eyes ancient and glowing like drowned suns.

The Kraken.

But this isn’t real.

Can’t be.

The deck is gone. The ship is gone.

I’m standing barefoot on black water like glass, no sound except my own pulse.

Dream. It must be dream.

The Kraken towers over me—not roaring or attacking—just watching.

Its gaze pins me like a harpoon. Not mindless beast. Intelligent. Curious. Recognizing.

“Why are you here?” My voice is a broken shell.

No answer—only a rumble beneath the waves that feels like a heartbeat echoing my own.

I step closer without meaning to. My feet don’t sink. The sea holds me like a promise.

“You know me…” I whisper.

A massive tentacle rises—slow, deliberate—touches the surface near my toes. I flinch, but it doesn’t strike. It waits.

As if greeting. As if bowed. The water around me glows pale blue in circles when I breathe. Magic ripples outward like tide answering moon.

“Storm Bride,” a voice booms—not from Kraken, but from everywhere. From the deep. From the blood in my veins.

I spin. “Who said that—”

The ocean surges like veins bursting. I fall backward into freezing salt darkness—drowning, choking —

— then I gasp awake.

Back in my cabin, soaked in sweat. Heart like war drum. Hands trembling around blankets.

Door opens sharply. Alaric stands there half-dressed, hair messy from sleep, chest rising hard. “Beth?”

I blink. “I—Kraken—dream—”

He steps inside, jaw tight. “You screamed.”

“I did?”

He nods once. He looks like he doesn’t know whether to shake me or hold me. “Tell me.”

I hesitate. If I tell him, he’ll look at me like the crew does. Like I’m something cursed, not human.

But I speak anyway, voice small. “I saw the Kraken. It wasn’t attacking. It… watched me. Like it knew me.”

His face drains of color. “Like Silas’ beast?”

I swallow. “Worse. Larger. A presence. Something ancient. It called me Storm Bride.”

He steps back. Fear flickers behind his eyes.

There it is—the look I dreaded.

I whisper, voice crackling, “Are you afraid of me now too?”

He stares long. Too long. Then speaks low. “I fear the sea. I fear legends. I fear the Kraken.”

I hold breath.

“But you?” he finishes, stepping closer, “I fear what you’ll become.”

It punches all air from my lungs.

He leaves without waiting for reply.

Door shuts. Darkness swallows me again.

I curl knees, palms pressed to salted sheets, tears sliding silent—not from weakness, but from knowing something irreversible has begun.

The Kraken called me.

And I answered.

Tomorrow, none of them will look at me the same. And I’m not sure if I want them to.
