"No, I know who you are," Amdis said firmly. "You are my mate. I would recognize you anywhere."

The sincerity in his words made her heart skip a beat. Kasia's heart thundered in her chest, its pulse thudding through her veins as if attempting to escape her very being. The room itself seemed to press in on her from all sides, suffocating her.

"What are you talking about?" she asked. The crackle of thunder from outside caused her to jump in surprise.

"Devanna, you need to believe me," he implored, desperation evident in his expression. "I don't know what kind of spell or trick has been played on you, but I swear to you, you are meant to be with me."

Her thoughts raced, the possibility of deception gnawing at her mind. She had never considered that someone could have manipulated her into believing that Ethan was her mate. Did someone actually cast a spell on her?

'No, that's just dumb thinking,' Kasia scolded herself mentally. 'The Moon Goddess made me Ethan's mate. It doesn't matter how convincing this vampire is. He is not my mate.'

Before Kasia could argue back, Amdis closed the distance between them, his hand cupping her face. The sensation of electricity surged through her body at his touch, further confusing her as it felt just like Ethan's touch. She tried to suppress the shiver that coursed down her spine but failed.
