Diego
"This is her last known location. the phone is still there," Brian says, pointing to the computer where a dot flickers continuously on the screen.
I should've put a tracking device in her. Why the fuck didn't I?
I lean in closer. "This building looks abandoned. What was it before?"
Sal glances over our shoulders. "I recognize that place. About ten years ago it was a coffee shop. Now, I heard it's used for drug dealings," he answers.
Why would she go there?
"Can you screen her calls?" I ask Brian.
He adjusts his glasses, his hands trembling at the urgency in my voice. "Yes, Sir. We can listen to every phone call. Read every text message, even ones she typed out and didn't send. Also, if she has deleted anything, I can recover it easily. Where would you like to start?"
That means we could listen to calls between her and Alicia to see how they planned to escape. But I decide to go through the texts first. The faster we discover some clues about their possible location, the better.
"The last text received was from an unknown number with just the address to the building."
I don't recognize the number, but it has a 702 area code. There's a possibility Alicia somehow gained access to a different phone and texted to meet her there.
"There's also an incoming phone call from the same number. I can play the call back," he suggests.
"Do it!" I bark out. Leo shoots me a questioning look, but I silently nod.
I need to know the truth.
Vanessa's voice fills the room and my heart lurches. It seems like when she answered the call, she thought it was me, but then a familiar voice follows; a voice I've known my entire life.
Nathan.
My hands vibrate as we listen to the recording, my jaw clenched so tightly it threatens to break my teeth. The fear in my wife's voice tears at my insides. He ensured she had no way to contact me and lured her out there.
Regret claws at me. I can't believe I even thought for a second that she had ran off. Now, she's in fucking danger, and I must find her before it's too late...before I lose her forever. If he had no hesitation in attempting to kill his own brother, he sure as hell will have no trouble harming her to get to me.
A surge of red flashes across my vision, my body vibrating with fury. Nathan has fucked with me for the last time. He could shoot me in the chest a million fucking times, and it would not compare to the line he just crossed. He touched what was mine, and now, he will die.
"Shit," Leo mutters, his expression clouded with concern as he senses the darkness seeping from me. He springs to his feet, shouting, "Anyone with half a brain and wants to live to see tomorrow, get the fuck out of here and start searching for Vanessa!"
Grown ass men scramble toward the front door, and Sal stifles a laugh. "Nice to know we're surrounded by a bunch of pussies," he mutters, shaking his head and calmly taking a sip from his glass.
"They're right to be afraid," Leo responds, running his hand through his tousled brown hair, "Diego is about to purge the whole damn city."
Brian stands up, his eyes wide with fear, but I push him back into the chair. "Not you. I need you," I growl, knowing we have a long night ahead of us. My voice carries a dark, almost demonic tone. It's fitting, considering my every thought right now revolves around violently murdering my brother and stepmom, along with anyone who's helping them.
Instead of wasting precious time scouring every inch of Nevada, I instruct Brian to access all surveillance footage in the vicinity of where she was abducted. Since everything resumed functioning after the hour was up, there's bound to be a suspicious vehicle lurking in the area.
With Sal and Leo staying in the room, we carefully comb through the footage, ensuring not to overlook a single thing. Their composed demeanor serves as an anchor amidst the overwhelming urge to wreak havoc on the world until my wife is safely back in my arms where she belongs.
Sal passes me a glass of whisky. "Drink up, Diego. We'll find her," he assures me.
I know we will.
Because I won't be able to breathe until we do.
Hang in there, Mama. I'll find you, but you will keep your promise to me as well.
You will fight until I come for you.
