The Lycan King's Secret Daughter

Chapter 171

Ch. 171 / 255 May 14, 2026

POV: Sylra

He did not wait for an answer. He never did — not when the room had already said everything the answer would have.

Caelen crossed the threshold and closed the door behind him. His eyes did not leave my hand where it rested inside Kael's open shirt. Kael did not step back. I did not remove my hand.

Caelen read the room without trying to adjust it.

He lifted my free hand from where it had fallen at my side and brought the pulse at my wrist to his mouth — slow, deliberate, a pressure that held until the tension in the room settled beneath it.

"I am not here to claim you from him," he said, low, the register only I heard. "I followed the bond. That is all."

Kael's hand stayed at my waist. Caelen's mouth stayed at my pulse. None of us moved.

I broke it.

"The second consort's pattern," I said, stepping back from Kael and turning to Caelen. "The court will expect you to know it. The count is a simple three."

He drew me into the frame without asking for instruction. His hand at my waist sat lower than protocol permitted, and he knew it, and did not move it. I did not correct him.

Mine curled against the back of his neck.

We moved into the first measure. He had the rhythm before I gave it — he had learned to read my weight long before we were in any frame together. On the third pass his mouth found the line of my jaw, and he stayed there, not asking whether it was permitted. His hands did not adjust. His frame did not waver.

"Every man in the hall will be watching where my hands are," he said against my throat. "I want them watching exactly here."

My hand tightened at the nape of his neck.

When the measure ended Kael stepped back into the frame. He took my waist from Caelen without looking at him — a clean, unhurried transfer, one hand replacing the other as if the motion had been rehearsed.

"My turn," he said. The first words he had spoken since Caelen walked through the door.

I laughed once, quiet, my mouth close to his. "Then take it."

He led me through the pass he had been learning not long before, and he did not drop the count once. The frame was steadier than it had been.

His footwork had found its edges and settled into them, and the confidence in it was not performed — it was the quiet assurance of someone who had stopped checking whether he was doing it correctly and simply done it.

Caelen stood at the room's margin and watched.

He did not move toward us and he did not leave. He stood with his arms crossed and his eyes on me — moving from my face to the line of my shoulder to the open collar of Kael's shirt still parted where I had left it. Everything his hands were not doing lived on his face instead, undisguised, not performed for my benefit but simply present.

I felt it before I saw it clearly. The wanting of it was specific and unmanaged, the gaze of a man who had decided that watching was worth more than interrupting.

He was patient in the way only Caelen was patient — as if staying in the room and watching me move in another man's arms was itself a form of having me, and he had decided that was enough for now.

It was not enough. I could see that too. His jaw had tightened on the second pass, and he had not moved, and the stillness of it cost him something he was choosing not to name.

When Kael's pass closed he did not release me either.

Caelen crossed the distance without hurry. He set his hand at the small of my back — beside Kael's, not instead of it — and we began to move. My spine settled against Caelen's chest, warm through the fabric of his training clothes. Kael's mouth found my shoulder.

Both bonds ran at the same frequency for the first time — not adjacent, not managed, but overlapping through me as the shared point between them. The sensation was not uncomfortable. It was the opposite of that, which was what made it difficult to hold onto anything operational.

"I can feel him through you," Caelen said at my ear, his voice low enough that it was more breath than sound. "He can feel me through you. And you are the only thing either of us is reading."

Kael's hand traced down the length of my forearm and closed around mine. "She was teaching me to dance," he said, to no one and to both of us. "She ended up teaching us both."

My head tipped back against Caelen's shoulder, and his arm tightened once across my ribs before it released.

Kael's mouth brushed the corner of mine — the lightest possible contact, a question with no pressure behind it, waiting to see if I turned toward it. I turned toward it.

His hand tightened around mine in response, and I felt his exhale against my cheek before we both stilled, and the stillness held all three of us at once.

All three bonds ran at the register they reached only when none of us was holding anything back.

The clarity of it was new — not the careful maintenance of three separate frequencies, not the management of proximity and distance, but all of it running through the same point at once. I had not known it was possible until it happened.

I filed the fact without examining it, because the runner's fist struck my door hard enough that all three of us turned toward it at once.

"Queen." The voice came through the wood, breathless, urgent. "Vedran sends word. He has the name."
