The Lycan King's Secret Daughter

Chapter 118

Ch. 119 / 255 May 14, 2026

POV: Sylra

They rode out at nightfall, eight hundred wolves in formation, and the dark came up around us like a held breath.

I had ridden campaigns before. I understood the body’s narrowing — the way the senses sharpened until the world resolved into information rather than experience, until the instrument was all that remained.

What I had not done was ride with three bonds running at full operational level simultaneously, each one carrying a different person’s precision and certainty and cost directly into my body.

Caelen was to my left. Kael to my right. Vedran directly behind. The war bond ran at its focused operational register — exact and clipped.

The healing bond ran at its deeper frequency, Kael’s clinical attention present at the edges of everything.

The third ran at its resonant note, Vedran threading through the other two, neither louder nor softer. Simply present. A third voice in a chord that had been weeks in the building.

An hour in, Kael spoke low from my right.

“The healing bond is reading the approach correctly. The frequency is not spiking.” His voice was even. “I wanted you to have that before we hit the tree line.”

“It has been steady since we rode out.”

“Yes. Your system is carrying it well.” A pause. “The wolf is present but contained. You are not managing — you are carrying. That is the right way.”

“What did you expect?”

“More resistance at the frequency boundaries.” He kept his gaze forward. “More active work to keep them separated.”

“And instead.”

“Instead you are letting them run together as a layered signal — not blending them, holding them as distinct but simultaneous.”

“That is what I have been working to build toward. Most people cannot do it under operational conditions.”

“You built it.”

He was quiet for a moment. What came through the healing bond from his side was not nothing. “Yes.” His voice came after a pause. “You let me.”

Neither of us spoke after that. The bond carried the rest.

Vedran came up alongside me not long after. He matched my pace. I did not look at him, but the third bond carried everything he was holding — the specific weight of a person who has made a decision and is bringing it to you before the moment requires it.

“She will be at the site herself.”

“You have been sitting with that since the contact came through.”

“Yes.” He kept his voice level. “I wanted you to have it from me directly. Not from the briefing chain. Before the tree line.”

“I understand what that costs.”

He was quiet for one stride. “That is why I came to tell you myself.” He held the pace for a moment longer.

“Whatever she says in that forest — whatever argument she makes — I have already had every version of it.” He kept his voice low.

“In my own head. For two years. There is nothing she can place in front of me that I have not already turned over and set down.”

“I trust your accounting.”

“Good.” The word was short and fully weighted. “Then let me do the work I came there to do.”

“If she gives you an opening —”

“I will use it.” His voice was certain without sharpness. “That is what she taught me to do with openings.”

He dropped back to position. The formation adjusted around him without a word. The third bond settled back to its resonant note, and I rode with the full weight of what he had given me.

Two hours out, Caelen’s compression signal came up through the formation. Eight hundred wolves tightened behind us without a sound.

“Contact through the chain.” His voice was low and close. “Veth moved the placement forward. The window is closing.”

“How much compression.”

“We hit the tree line with less spacing than the plan assumed. More speed.” He paused. “The approach geometry holds. The margin is thinner.”

“The bond frequencies — with all three running at full operational level in proximity, does the compression affect our coordination.”

He was quiet for two strides. Through the war bond I felt what the quiet contained: not uncertainty, but the specific attention he brought to questions that deserved a full answer.

“Your system has been running all three simultaneously in close proximity for weeks.” He kept his voice measured.

“This is not new architecture under pressure. It is the same architecture at higher stakes. Your body has the information.”

“Good.”

The forest was ahead in the dark, the tree line visible as a denser absence where the stars ended.

“Vedran’s contact confirmed she is present at the final placement site.”

“He told me himself an hour back.” I kept my eyes forward. “He wanted me to have it directly.”

“Yes.” A beat. “He would.”

“Veth being present does not change the plan.”

“It changes one thing.” He kept his voice entirely level. “When the circuit completes and the counter-circuit collapses, she will be standing at the final placement site.” He held a beat.

“She will feel it happen in real time. The circuit she spent thirty years building will fail in her hands.”

“She will understand every piece of it,” he continued. “What she lost. Who took it from her? Precisely and completely.”

“Good.”

Something in me said it with a precision I noted and did not soften. Not cruelty. The specific clarity of someone who has been the object of another person’s entire strategic imagination and has not been stopped.

The tree line was close. I could smell it — dark wet wood and deep shadow, and something underneath that the wolf recognized before I did.

A charge in the frequencies the wolf understood as proximity to what it had been building toward.

The third bond surged briefly. Vedran’s awareness sharpened behind me. His hand signal came through the formation: he had the coordinates. The final position, confirmed.

The wolf surfaced at the edges of my awareness — not disruptive. Simply present. Ready.

I kept my hands light on the reins. I held the three frequencies in my body without separating them. I let the instrument become what the moment required.

The tree line was ten strides ahead. Then five. Then none.

The dark took us in and the operation began.
