Leaving the examination area as the last wolf leaves to return to the guest house, I feel happier than I had been this morning, I make my way toward Jasmin’s office while I wait for her to bring me the results from today’s examination. Two days have passed since the wolves from Willow Bark arrived at Crescent Phoenix and today we had them go through a mandatory examination after letting them settle in at the guest house. Jasmin and her team were the ones in charge of checking each wolf and as the Beta, I was sent to oversee the process to make sure everyone complied with the exams.
There was one hiccup with today’s exam and that was Quincy barging in demanding to be there to make sure Milan was not mistreated. Milan being the defacto leader of the Willow Bark Rogues, chose to go first with the examination to show the younger wolves that it was perfectly safe. She must have been nervous but hid it well because the doors to the examination hall that was set aside for today burst open and Quincy came storming in, snarling at Jasmin who was just about to stick a needle into Milan’s arm to draw some blood.
I had needed to link Rune, Ricky, and Eddison to come here and help keep the infirmary staff safe from the worked-up Quincy. They were here within minutes and, with the help of Milan, they easily diffused the situation. Once Quincy had calmed down, Rune escorted him outside to explain the way the Mate Bond makes us feel for our other half when it signals some form of danger and discomfort while we carry on with the medical examination.
“You did well today, Brynlee.” Turning to see Jasmin come up beside me, I smile at my Doctor while she hands me a tablet.
“Thank you.” I whisper, looking at the tablet in my hand and flicking through the files with each new wolf’s name listed.
“All the information has been added to each wolf’s file and saved for you and Alpha Asteria to go over later.” She adds making me feel relieved. I am glad I reached out to Jasmin yesterday when Asteria and I decided that the Willow Bark wolves needed to have a medical examination after seven years as Rogues without a proper Doctor.
“Thank you for all your help today too, Jasmin.” I thank the she-wolf, scrolling through the information on the tablet and scanning the contents. So far it seems all the wolves that will be joining the Pack in a few days are healthy with minimal issues. They took great care of themselves as Rogues with only a few minor details I have noticed that could be caused by the lack of security that being in a Pack could provide. Given time, all these wolves from Willow Bark will grow stronger and healthier.
“In three days, we will need to repeat this again as more wolves will be coming to join Crescent Phoenix.” Jasmin groans at my warning but accepts this nonetheless, asking me for an approximate number so that she can prepare the needed materials for the exams.
After instructing a nurse to start preparing for the hopefully last batch of Rogues we will be expecting, Jasmin comes to my side. I can feel her gaze while I continue going through the results of these exams and wonder for a moment what else she has to say.
“How are you feeling by the way?” She asks, her question causing me to look up from the tablet in surprise. I see the concern in Jasmin’s eyes as she gives me a small smile and sighs. She is my Doctor, there is nothing I should be afraid to tell her.
“Overwhelmed.” I admit, giving her a small smile.
“I haven’t shifted since I found out I am with pup and could use a good run.”
“But Rune will become overprotective if you do that.” Jasmin muses before I can state the issue.
“He won’t even let me work out like I usually do and have to sneak in one when I am at home.” I groan in frustration, getting a chuckle out of Jasmin.
“It seems the two of you are truly mending the Mate Bond. Do you want me to link him and explain that until you are four months along, you can shift and run in wolf form and that as long as you are careful, can work out in the training room but not spar with others?” She asks, her eyes full of amusement.
“Would you? I could really use a good run.” I ask, handing her the tablet back and feeling hopeful for a good workout.
“Yeah. I do this all the time when males become overprotective of their pregnant Mates.” She answers, taking the device from her. Her eyes glaze over as she proceeds to link Rune. I watch patiently as her facial expression goes from a smile to a frown then to a smile once more before her gaze refocuses on me.
“He was angry at my words but agreed that he can’t stop you from working out or running in wolf form if I am the one saying it is good for your health.” Jasmin states with a chuckle. I pull the she-wolf into a hug being so happy to say anything as she hugs me back.
“Thank you so much!” I finally manage to say as we pull away, Jasmin laughing at my reaction.
“It’s nothing. As your Doctor, your mental, emotional, and physical health are my responsibility. Now, I have work to finish and so do you.” With that, Jasmin walks me out of her office and towards the main door, the two of us discussing what sort of wolves we might encounter in a few days times. We both agree that I will be overseeing the next examination as long as Quest and Ashton help with security as no one would expect the two lanky Hunters to be able to hold unruly wolves down.
She reminds me to take my prenatal vitamins as we walk outside, the warm sun shining down on us and after assuring her I take it every morning, she tells me to enjoy my newfound freedom without Rune hovering around me before returning inside the Pack Hospital, leaving me smiling from ear to ear as I head towards the Pack House. I have some work I need to finish as our Council Representative will be arriving in five days but after that is done, I plan to go for a run and see how the Pack is doing.
[I don’t like your Doctor.] Rune’s grumblings float through our link and I chuckle.
[Well I do. I am dying to go for a good run.] I retort with, not allowing my Mate’s mood to sour mine.
[I am just worried that you’ll get hurt while pregnant. I don’t know what I would do if that happened.] He argues back. I roll my eyes at this, taking a deep breath of the fresh air as I continue my trek to the Pack House.
[Rune, I know my Pack lands. I won’t get hurt while deep inside Cresent Phoenix’s territories.] I retorted, getting a growl of frustration as a response. I growl back, not liking his attitude at all and this seems to quiet Rune considerably. Silence follows our growls and I soon reach the Pack House thinking Rune has shut the link.
[Two hours.] He states his voice firm with no room for debate.
[I finish my patrol in two hours and then we can go for a run together. I won’t stop you from shifting, but I will be dammed if I let my pregnant Mate go off alone without protecting her.] He adds. Pausing, I feel the bond hum by his concern even if Rune sounds angry at the moment, and decide that this is a compromise I can agree to.
[Deal. I have work I need to finish to prepare for our Council Representative’s arrival so two hours works perfectly for me.] I answer back, my voice full of warmth.
[Okay. I will pick you up from the Pack House when I am done. Make sure you eat lunch today.] I want to argue with him for how possessive he is being, but Rune shuts the link down before I can say anything further. Letting out an annoyed growl, I head inside the Pack House and stop at the kitchen for something to snack on before making my way upstairs to my office.
