The Billionaire's One-Night Stand!

Chapter 60: The Girl Always Causes Trouble

Ch. 60 / 115 Sep 17, 2024

Selena furrowed her brow, her disdain growing ever more profound: "You piece of trash! Cowardly and useless! Unable to deal with a single woman! What good is a worthless cur like you to me? I should have never trusted you from the beginning! So-called killer without batting an eye, extraordinary martial skills... Damn it! Nothing but a piece of garbage!"

The more she spoke, the more furious she became.

Anger ignited like a raging fire, consuming her rationality.

"Get out! Get out of my house!"

"Ding dong..." The sudden ring of the doorbell interrupted, the conflict paused from one side.

Selena took a few more steps, her body shivering as she peered through the peephole.

Outside stood a somewhat familiar man.

Selena shoved Winky's arm, causing his body to sway: "Get out of sight! It's someone from Matthew!" She absolutely could not let Matthew's people know about Winky's existence.

"Miss White, are you still sleeping?" The implication being she had kept the outsider waiting too long.

Selena forced a smile, avoiding the prying gaze of the person outside the door: "I..."

Before she could come up with an excuse, the man outside chuckled: "Don't be so tense, I'm just here on the boss's orders to check up on you.

The boss is currently overseas but is very concerned about you and... the little young master in your belly.

So he sent a nanny to take care of you."

As he mentioned the words "little young master." his gaze fleetingly settled on Selena's slightly bulging belly, his tone also somewhat probing.

But Selena didn't have the time to attend to this unusual attitude.

She hurriedly thought of a reason to refuse Matthew's arrangement.

A joke? There were countless things in her private life that should not be known to others.

Such as Winky.

"No! Ah no... I mean there's no need to go to such trouble... I can take care of myself.

Yes, I can take care of myself and the child in my belly..."

"Miss White." The man outside interrupted her: "This is the boss's decision, his arrangement, not up for your opinion.

You don't have anything to hide, do you?"

Faced with the piercing gaze of the man outside, all Selena could do was look away.

She unconsciously stepped back, her palms sweaty.

From a hidden corner, a woman in her fifties, a simple and kind-looking figure, stepped forward: "Hello, Madam, you can just call me Aunt Sienna.

I have been working at the Charles family for many years, when the young master went abroad to study, I was the one taking care of his meals and sleep."

Matthew's underling also nodded: "Aunt Sienna is very careful, one of the few people the boss completely trusts."

Selena's brows tightened, her gaze calculated.

She didn't forget, there was still a man passed out drunk in her house.

This Aunt Sienna, she couldn't get rid of her.

She'd have to take things one step at a time.

She gritted her teeth and nodded: "Fine then." She simply had no excuse to refuse.

"I trust his judgement in people."

"There is nothing else, I will take my leave now." Matthew's underling slightly bowed his head, as a way to say goodbye, then promptly turned and walked out the door.

Aunt Sienna entered the house, her gaze lingered on Selena, as though she was awaiting the younger woman to settle her affairs.

Her physique embodied that unmistakable weariness of women accustomed to enduring hardships and pandering to the whims of others.

Selena, feeling disturbed, grumbled under her breath and waved dismissively: "I prefer tranquillity. Thus, unless there's something urgent, don't bother me, and never enter my room without my consent.

Now that you're here, I'll give my hourly maid some time off.

It's temporarily just you and me in this house, and should anything go missing, you'll be the first one I'll suspect."

"Yes, Miss." Aunt Sienna replied amicably, nodding her head, then carried her belongings into an unoccupied room.

Selena watched her retreating figure until she was certain the older woman had entered her room, and then she hastened into her own bedroom.

As the door closed behind her, she heaved a sigh of relief.

Inside the room, Winky was sitting motionless, like a wooden statue.

Upon seeing the woman he had long awaited, he slightly lifted his head and began: "Miss..."

"Get out, and don't let me see your face again!" Selena retorted dismissively: "I've married Matthew, and our relationship is solid.

I don't need useless trash like you anymore... so leave, don't sully my sight."

Each word seemed to stab directly into Winky's already scarred heart.

He raised his hand then lowered it again, his voice revealing a trace of sadness: "Miss, do you truly believe that Matthew loves you?"

No, that wasn't love.

The gaze with which Matthew looked at Selena contained not a hint of warmth or tenderness.

Having expended considerable energy monitoring Flora's every move recently, he had seen firsthand how they lived together.

In his eyes, that was true love.

"Huh, don't think I'm blind to your base motives!" Selena declared contemptuously, barely giving him a glance: "You're just a dog at my feet, trash that's been discarded, and nobody wants to pick up.

How could I ever be with someone like you?

Give up your delusions."

Winky blinked, struggling to suppress the bitter hurt in his eyes.

He lowered his head slightly: "But the child in your womb..." isn't it mine?

"The baby inside me is Matthew's, and it has nothing to do with you! Shut up, don't force me to deal with you in another way." Selena cut him off before he could finish.

Disappointment and pain enshrouded Winky's heart.

The long scar on his face twitched, making him appear even more intimidating.

His voice rasped: "So, you've always seen me as a tool to be used? All this while... you've had no feelings for me?"

"My feelings? You're worthy?" Her tone was derisive, as if she were indeed looking at a pile of worthless trash.

Winky nodded.

His lips curled into a distorted smile, a tear seeping from the corner of his eye.

His laughter echoed, filled with a mix of despair and dread.

Like a madman, he laughed and cried his way to the window.

With an agile move, he jumped out, disappearing from Selena's sight without looking back.

For years, Winky had been inseparable from Selena, never suffering a defeat.

This time, he was out all night and failed to handle even a fragile woman like Flora.

It was indeed strange.

Selena closed the window and pulled the heavy curtains, veiling the room.

Her face twisted with a mix of jealousy, resentment, and anger. However, now that Winky had failed, she needed another plan.

"Hold on..." A calculating light sparked in Selena's eyes: "Flora has no power, no status, and no significant background.

She has bodyguards; it must be... Patrick, right? It must be Patrick who hired bodyguards for her!"

The more Selena thought, the more plausible it seemed.

Her hand unconsciously clenched into a fist.

In the grand tapestry of their intimate relationship, does Patrick and Flora's virtuous husband even suspect? It seems the esteemed Miss White may be preparing to gift her husband a substantial surprise.

"What of Daniel's investigation?" Matthew asked idly, twirling a pen in his hand, his tone laden with contemplation.

His subordinate standing before him rarely exuded such confidence as he replied: "Boss, we're making excellent progress. Our men have discovered ample evidence tying Daniel to the underworld."

"Keep digging." Matthew slightly twisted his lips: "He's been mired in politics for years, his connections with the underworld didn't form overnight. I want enough evidence that neither he nor the Whites can wriggle free."

The subordinate solemnly nodded. A significant amount of evidence had been accumulated, but to ensure the Whites are immobilized, a bit more was required.

After a moment's reflection, he continued: "The latest arms shipment was robbed, many of our men injured. The timing seems uncannily convenient..."

Convenience that the enemy had attacked at the most vulnerable time, due to their focus on other issues.

Matthew shook his head: "No coincidence. You've been in the trenches with me long enough to know... In our world, there are rarely such coincidences. The enemy knew our route and delivery schedule. The only plausible culprit could be Ethelbert."

"However, Ethelbert is still within the country. Our men are keeping a watch." His subordinate disagreed.

"I know." Matthew tapped the table with his pen: "That's why it's fishy, isn't it? Ethelbert may be here, but he could be communicating with outsiders."

His subordinate's eyes widened, a seemingly unfathomable thought surfacing.

"You're suggesting..."

Matthew exhaled a sigh. He didn't want to entertain this truth, but circumstances indicated one possibility.

"He may have already allied with outsiders. His reach isn't that extensive, the stolen arms shipment likely involved local mafia." Matthew had, until now, maintained a harmonious distance with the local forces. Ethelbert's moves had turned them from neutral to hostile.

"Continue the investigation." His hand clenched around the pen, his voice stern and unequivocal: "The shipments must go as planned, with more men and more caution."

Business matters settled, he switched to personal affairs.

Thinking of "someone" within the country, a subtle smirk appeared on Matthew's lips: "What about Flora?"

"Extra protection has been arranged. She is the Boss's woman, our men wouldn't dare neglect her."

Matthew nodded in approval. From thousands of miles away, he yearned for his family's safety. Unforeseen incidents could occur, he needed his men to be vigilant always.

"Don't let her notice." The foolish woman had never interacted with underworld forces, he feared it would send her into a flurry of disarray.

His subordinate solemnly nodded, carefully jotting notes.

Once done, another matter came to mind.
