The Barren Ex-Wife Gave Birth to Twins

Chapter 17

Ch. 17 / 100 May 04, 2026

The hospital waiting room buzzed with muted chaos, nurses rushing by with charts and patients being wheeled in and out. Amelia sat next to Ryan, her hand tightly gripping Debby’s small, feverish one.

“Her fever spiked to 104,” the doctor had said. “We’ll stabilize her with fluids and monitor her closely.”

Ryan glanced at Amelia, his voice soft. “She’s going to be okay. She’s strong, just like her mom.”

Amelia didn’t respond, her focus solely on Debby.

The moment felt fragile, hanging by a thread, until a piercing voice shattered it.

“You have got to be kidding me!”

Amelia and Ryan turned toward the source. Brenda stormed into the ER, her hair disheveled, her eyes wild. Her presence hit like a hurricane.

“What is this?” she screamed, her voice sharp enough to draw every head in the room. “You’re here playing house with her while my son is in a coma?”

Ryan stood, his expression hardening. “Brenda, lower your voice. This is not the time or place.”

“Don’t tell me to lower my voice!” Brenda shouted, stepping closer. “I’ve been calling you all day, Ryan! Steve is in a coma! He might not make it, and you didn’t even bother to answer your phone!”

Amelia tensed, her hand still on Debby’s. She didn’t want to be dragged into Brenda’s storm but couldn’t help the anger simmering beneath her calm exterior.

“I’m sorry about Steve,” Ryan said, his tone steady but firm. “But let’s be clear, Brenda—this situation? This is because of you. I’ll keep supporting Steve’s medical bills, but this toxic cycle between us? It ends here. You need to sign the agreement and let this go.”

Brenda’s eyes widened, tears streaming as anger and despair tangled in her expression. “You’re really going to abandon me when I need you most? When he needs you?”

Ryan’s jaw clenched. “I’m not abandoning anyone. I’m making sure Steve gets the care he needs, but what’s between us is over.”

Brenda took a step back, her breath hitching. “You’ll regret this, Ryan. Both of you.” Her gaze shifted to Amelia, her eyes blazing with unspoken hatred.

“Brenda,” Amelia finally spoke, her voice low and icy. “This isn’t about me. This is about your son. Focus on him, not whatever vendetta you’re brewing.”

Brenda stared at Amelia for a moment before turning and storming out, her sobs echoing through the hallway.
