The Art of Revenge

A Threat

Ch. 162 / 166 Dec 24, 2025

Xavier looked down. "That's all the report says for now. If we want to know more, we'll have to wait."

"I can't wait another second! I'm going to call my father!"

She pulled out her phone.

Xavier quickly grabbed her hand. "Don't rush. If you call Uncle Bram out of the blue like this, he'll be upset. And if he really has nothing to do with it, your questioning could damage your relationship."

"Then what should I do?! All I can think about is Gaius' death. If I keep waiting, I'll go crazy!"

Seeing her furrowed brows, Xavier thought for a moment and asked, "Have you seen Dr. Beckett here recently?"

"Yes! He was invited to attend the hotel's grand opening."

"As far as I know, most guests invited to the event are given a three-day complimentary stay. During those three days, they can enjoy all services for free. Unless something urgent comes up, most don't leave early."

Serena quickly understood, "You mean... Dr. Beckett might still be staying at the hotel?!"

"Exactly."

"But he's the director of a major hospital-he must be really busy. He might've already left."

"It's possible, but just in case-I'll have the front desk check the guest records and see if he's checked out."

Serena didn't say anything, but her eyes were filled with anticipation.

Xavier didn't delay. He immediately called the front desk.

Two minutes later, he hung up.

Serena asked eagerly, "Well?!"

"He hasn't left. He's scheduled to check out tomorrow."

"That's great! Which room is he in? I want to go visit him!"

"Room 2802. But it's late today-tomorrow morning, I'll go with you."

"Alright."

That night, Serena tossed and turned, sleeping restlessly.

The next morning, when she opened her eyes in a daze, it was just barely dawn.

Turning her head, she found Xavier already awake.

"You're up so early?"

"My girl didn't sleep well-how could I sleep soundly?" He gently touched her forehead. "Today, we'll go find Dr. Beckett and get some answers."

"Yes." Serena nodded, though worry still clouded her face. "But... what if he's just like before and refuses to say anything?"

"Don't worry. I'll make sure he talks, one way or another."

"You have a plan?"

"There are always more solutions than problems." He gave her a roguish wink and a charming smirk. "Besides, I can't let you keep losing sleep over this."

At 9:30 a.m.

Just as Dr. Beckett finished his daily morning video meeting, there was a knock at the door.

Opening it, he visibly flinched when he saw Serena.

Serena's heart hardened-he definitely knew something.

"Good morning, Dr. Beckett! Do you have a moment? May we talk?"

Dr. Beckett hesitated. "Um... I..."

Just then, Xavier stepped in with a timely smile. "Dr. Beckett, good morning. I'm Xavier Blaze, the executive president of this hotel."

"Mr. Blaze! Good morning, and thank you for the warm hospitality!"

Xavier smiled politely. "You're too kind, Dr. Beckett. I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me with a brief customer feedback survey?"

Before he could respond, Xavier winked and added in a playful tone, "Please-it's my first time managing a hotel. This is a political task my father assigned me!"

Given that he had enjoyed free room and board these past few days, Dr. Beckett couldn't very well refuse. He stepped aside, "Alright, please come in."

Inside the room, Xavier began with a few superficial questions about the stay experience.

Dr. Beckett answered all of them cooperatively.

Then, Serena couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Dr. Beckett, can you tell me how you and my father came to know each other?"

Dr. Beckett's expression stiffened, and he awkwardly cleared his throat. "I have something to attend to soon. If Mr. Blaze has no further business, perhaps we can talk another day?"

It was obvious he was trying to send them off.

Logically speaking, someone like Xavier-raised in the business world-would easily pick up on such cues.

But he simply smiled slightly and played dumb, saying, "Dr. Beckett, you haven't answered Serena's question yet!"

"I..." Dr. Beckett frowned. "Is that also part of your father's assignment?"

"Not quite!" Xavier replied frankly. "But Serena's mission is way more important than my father's."

He leaned in slightly and said in a low voice, "Dr. Beckett, please cooperate. Otherwise, I'm afraid you won't be able to leave this room today."

"You-You two-are you threatening me?!"

"Oh, we wouldn't dare! Threats and intimidation are illegal! We're law-abiding businesspeople-we don't do that sort of thing. But..." His eyes narrowed slightly with a mischievous grin. "Even if you don't tell me, I'll still find out. Just so you know, we've already discovered that your rapid promotions back then had a lot to do with Bram Knowles. And also-Gaius is your cousin, right?"

At these words, Dr. Beckett's expression visibly changed.

Xavier, full of confidence, continued, "We haven't uncovered the full details yet, but you and I both know-it's only a matter of time."

"But if I continue digging, more people will know the truth. If you speak up now, I can have them stop investigating. The fewer people who know, the lower the risk of this getting out. You're smart-smart enough to become the head of a hospital. I'm sure I don't need to explain the pros and cons any further, do I?"
