CHAPTER 103 - GREY HAIRS"Grey... hair?"
Liam's frantic and pale face made Harriet smile with amusement.
"Grey…" Liam almost stood up to find a mirror or other object that could show his reflection. He wanted to see for himself those damn grey hairs that appeared on his head!
Grey hairs... grey... grey...
Liam's head was filled with the fact that his young wife had just told him he was turning grey.
Satisfied with pranking Liam, Harriet stopped Liam who was almost going to the river to see his reflection on the water.
She spoke soothingly, "Milord, don't worry."
The woman then parted her own hair and showed it to Liam. "Look, Milord. I have it too."
Harriet showed a bunch of hair above the nape of her neck which was much paler and whiter in appearance, in contrast to the rest of her hair, which still had a lavender tint.
Liam was still stunned, but he furrowed his brows.
"Grey hairs?" he asked again.
Harriet nodded.
"My mother, and she said my grandmother did too, had a special genetic that cause us to start turning grey at a young age. My mother's hair was black, but actually, she'd been greying since she was young, so she often dyed her hair black to cover it. Because my hair was very pale, I could hide my grey hair very well," explained Harriet.
Soon, Liam was hit with a hard reality.
Ah. Harriet was a human being. And she was not his Mate.
A terrifying thought crept into Liam's head. Later, even if Liam managed to heal his body and restore his heart, Harriet would still leave him sooner than he thought. He also realized that the life span of humans in this world was so short...
"What about your body? Is there anything else that is different from the others?" Liam asked softly, cautious and anxious.
"Nothing, Milord. My body is very healthy," said Harriet.
"But Russell once said you get nosebleeds when you're working too hard… and you get headaches…" Liam lowered his voice.
Harriet smiled warmly.
"Yes. It's normal when I'm sleep-deprived or tired," she replied soothingly.
Liam felt his empty chest was much tighter than usual. Fear crept through his body, and it stemmed from worry. He was afraid to see Harriet leave him. He was afraid to let Harriet go to the death that would come for her one day.
So was this how Harriet feels every day because of him? She was worried and scared, because of his illness, because of Liam's death which could come sooner or later? It was a feeling that completely drown him in discomfort.
"Madam," Liam took a deep breath. "Will you do something for me?"
"Yes?" asked Harriet.
"Please… don't torture yourself, and take care of your health better than before. It might be ironic to hear these words coming from me, but…" Liam couldn't continue his words.
"Of course. I promise, Milord," without giving Liam another word of reassurance, Harriet made a promise. Because she knew those were the words Liam wanted to hear the most right now.
She understood how Liam felt when he saw the grey hair in her hair. She understood that Liam may have just realized that they live in different timelines.
"Sorry for worrying you, Milord. I just wanted to cheer you up about the grey hairs on your head by showing the grey hairs on my own head," she explained.
Liam furrowed his brows.
"You lied about the grey hair on my head, right? Grandpa didn't even have grey hair until he was 170 years old. And I'm sure Grandma doesn't have any grey hairs even today. There's no way I'd have grey hair!" Liam spoke vehemently.
Harriet laughed. She laughed so hard that she clutched her stomach. She gently touched Liam's head and stroked his hair.
"Let me see. Maybe I saw it wrong, Milord," Harriet pulled Liam's shoulder to rest his head in her lap. Leaning against a fallen tree trunk, Harriet stroked Liam's long blonde hair, trying to sort it out and search for the 'grey hairs' she had been talking about.
The gentle movement of Harriet's hand through his hair slowly made Liam sleepy, and before long, Liam was asleep.
***
CRASH!
"AAARGH!"
Cecilia shifted all the objects and flower vases on her dresser sideways, sending them all falling apart on the floor. The woman's pink eyes were now red. She was furious and it was all because of Harriet Goldlane!
Why did Harriet always steal everything that belonged to her?! Why did that woman keep burning her anger when Cecilia thought she had extinguished her flame.
What made that side character so special?! What made men so obsessed with her?!
Ezekiel had told her that he decided to make Harriet the Empress no matter what. How could Ezekiel claim that Cecilia was unfit to be Empress? How could Ezekiel ask her to just be a concubine, when Harriet would get everything Cecilia wanted?!
"She just keeps blocking my success. Again, and again, and again–" Cecilia took her alchemy furnace, but then controlled herself.
Before Harriet and Liam headed North, she had to show who she really was. She would awaken her holy power and… prove that she was the new Saintess.
"I will snatch everything that should be mine. Zeke, Aaron Jade, Jake Scolecite and… Liam…"
Why did she choose to be Cecilia Morganite, a side character who hardly appeared in the novels she reads, and not the Female Lead? Because this was the only way for her to have all the male leads and villains in this story.
"Even Harriet Goldlane can't stop me from getting Liam!"
Cecilia grinned sharply. In her head, she imagined the fantasy and imagination of the reverse harem romance that she yearned for. She will get it! She can get it!
And then, she would become the supreme goddess, worshipped by everyone in this world.
