The Alpha's Accidental Mate

Chapter 46

Ch. 46 / 52 Feb 20, 2025

  Jessica

Fridays are my favorite, but today I’m in a foul mood, and it’s all because of my stupid stepbrother. Luke has, once again, eaten my yogurt without my permission - what is his freaking problem, and why won’t he stop doing this?! Do I tell Riley about him? I don’t want to tell my stepmom, but this stepbrother of mine is walking on a thin lifeline right now.

Luke is the future Alpha of our pack and a total asshole. He teases me all the time for being a “normie” werewolf since he is a half-fairy and thinks he is so much better than me for being special. It’s so freaking annoying, and now I’m starting to wonder if that’s why he is eating my yogurt - to spite me further.

“Everything okay?” Riley asks me as she enters the kitchen.

My eyes immediately land on her kind face. Riley is Luke’s biological mom and my stepmom. She is also the Luna of our pack. A normal werewolf while her husband, the Alpha, is a half-fairy - just like my stepbrother Luke.

“No, nothing is okay!” I pout at her. “Luke ate my freaking yogurt again!”

Riley snickers while nearing the dishwasher, probably about to empty it. “Well, he was probably hungry then...”

“No shit!” I exclaim and wander over to the fridge, searching the shelves with eager eyes. “Maybe there is something else I can find to eat...”

“What’s the matter?” Luke asks as he walks inside the kitchen, smirking as he enters. “Isn’t your yogurt good enough for you, Short Stuff?”

My eyes zero in on Luke’s face, and I scowl before growling at him like an angry hyena. “Stop calling me that!”

“Why? Wait...let me guess... it’s missing?” Luke picks up an apple from the kitchen table and bites into it, speaking between his chews.

Why does he have to do that? I would be disgusted if it were anyone else, but my stepbrother was blessed with those “girl, watch! He might be famous” looks.

“Because I’m not short!” I argue and look at Riley. “Can you tell your son to behave?”

Riley sighs heavily. “Luke and Jessica, it’s way too early in the morning to argue. Can’t we all just be friends?.”

I gasp. “What? I’m innocent! You should only be telling Luke to behave - I’m not doing anything!”

Luke flashes me a grin when Riley glares at me and isn’t paying her son any attention, but Luke immediately smiles when she looks at him. What an actor...

“But you are! You’re creating drama!” Luke says.

  “I am not!” I bark.

  “Are too.”

  “No!”

Before I can react, Luke curls an arm around me and pulls me into his chest, nose-first into his pecs. It’s a shocker every time he does this. His muscles are trying to bust out of his white t-shirt, and Jesus - did his chest get bigger?

Before I can ponder more on that, Luke playfully messes up my hair with a big grin. “Did you shrink?”

My face flushes red, and I throw off his arm from my head. “No, asshole. You’re just stupidly tall since you’re half-fairy!”

“I am, aren’t I?” Luke grips his chin and strokes it. “I bet my future mate will be tall too.”

  I roll my eyes. “Yeah...sure...whatever.”

Luke is a few months younger than me. He is seventeen with a big birthday celebration happening this month, while I turned eighteen two months ago. So far, it sucks to be eighteen. Mostly because Luke’s favorite hobby is to bully me since my mate wasn’t in our pack or attending our college. I still haven’t felt that incredible mate bond while the asshole over there is convinced his mate will show up straight off the bat.

“You coming to watch my wrestling match later?” Luke asks and rolls his left shoulder.

I snort at him. “No, I have more important things to do today other than watching my stepbrother get his ass handed to him by humans.”

Luke laughs. “I won’t get my ass handed to me.”

  “You lost your last game.”

“That sometimes happens!” he pouts and looks slightly embarrassed.

I smirk. “But you’re an Alpha - it shouldn’t happen.”

“You and I both know using superhuman strength is forbidden when you’re competing in the human world, so it’s entirely possible for me to get defeated.”

  “I suppose...”

His nostrils flare. “I’m pretty fucking strong without using my inhuman strength anyway - I have an eighty percent win rate.”

“You’re such a bragger...” I comment while Riley snickers and walks out of the kitchen. It pisses me off how she winks at me before leaving - what is her deal?

“Anyway...” Luke drawls after his mom is gone. “Do you need a ride to campus?” he asks, apparently not interested in the other conversation we were having.

“No, I will be riding with Sydney,” I tell him. Sydney is my best friend and also a werewolf. “She is picking me up in like—” I look up at the clock on the wall. “In like five minutes from now.”

“Oh,” Luke arches an eyebrow to show his surprise. If I’m not mistaken, he almost looks sad, which is funny. The guy is a giant yet manages to look like a wounded puppy. “You don’t like riding with me?”

Even though I’m confused by his sad expression, I don’t let it get to me when I respond. “No, I will ride with Sydney.”

“Okay then...” Luke looks even sadder now, which is very confusing to me.

Doesn’t he know that riding with him is a nightmare? The last time I did it, the whole female population of our college decided to come and ask who the hell I was to Luke. We are stepsiblings, but they thought I was his girlfriend. It baffles me how they didn’t recognize me as his stepsister.

But...then again, I’m guessing that’s because I’m not very memorable. I’m a half goth. My black hair reaches past my shoulders, and I only dress in black. I also have a resting bitch face, which makes me hard to approach. And since I don’t smile very often, a lot of people seem to think I have an attitude, and they would be right - I’m the devil’s spawn. I have a weak spot for my friends, though. Sydney is my person, and I would die for that bitch.

I finish packing my lunch, eat something, and pick out my shoes before heading out. Sydney is blasting music in her car and smiles when I open the door.

“What’s up!” she sounds very happy to see me, and before I can even respond, she gasps the second she spots Luke jumping into his car. “Damn! Your stepbrother is looking more and more fine the closer he is getting to his eighteenth birthday. Have you guys planned the big birthday party already?”

“I bet his parents have done that,” I say and flash her a tired smile. “Wouldn’t make sense if they hadn’t.”

“True,” she blinks. “They are your parents too, you know?”

I avert my eyes and look out through the window. “They took me in since my parents were highly valued members of the pack, but I’m not their real daughter. Neither do I feel like I’m very special to them.”

Syndey gives me a sympathetic look. “Jess, sometimes I wonder if you undervalue yourself. You often talk about how Riley and Willian were forced to take you in after your parents died, but I think they genuinely like and care about you now after ten years - even if you aren’t their biological daughter. Luke cares about you too, like a lot.”

For some reason, I blush at that. I’ve been acting strange around Luke lately. It must be because of all the muscle he has put on lately. It’s making me delirious. He is so...big now. He has always been attractive, but a year ago, he was kind of lanky and bony. Now he is a walking wet dream, having the body of a god AND perfectly groomed white hair and charming eyes.

“You know, I would KILL to have Luke as my mate,” Sydney suddenly blurts out. “His birthday is coming up, right? Gosh, I really hope that I’m his mate.”

I glance over at her. Sydney is very pretty with her blonde hair and green eyes. She is popular, bright, and bubbly - I sometimes wonder why she hangs out with me. Not only does she look good, but she has top grades too. She is even a talented fighter and dreams of becoming a warrior wolf in the future - she would make a perfect mate for Luke.

So why do I feel jealous of the simple thought of them being together? What the hell is wrong with me? I shouldn’t feel this way about my stepbrother…
