Chapter 19

Ch. 19 / 31 Dec 15, 2025

Perhaps it had been her seeing Ella on Sarah's hip but his mate was now a bit jealous ridden and he felt that.

“Sarah.” Colten swallowed.

The woman looked between them, “Ella needs to go to bed.”

Abigail made a slight noise and moved out of the way as he walked to the brunette and took his niece.

“Thanks.” He said in a short voice to her and tried not to let his annoyance get the best of him.

She caught his gaze and let go of the child, “Yeah.”

He turned away, not looking back to his old bed buddy, “I'll be down in a few minutes.”

Abigail nodded, looking him over but staying her normal soft self.

He pulled himself away from the girl and walked into the hall, where Chloe and Grayson were standing near the stairs, arguing over something.

He sighed and hoped they wouldn't jump on him with questions and demands.

Chloe's eyes widened as she caught sight of him, “So?”

Grayson rolled his eyes, “Sorry, Colten.”

Colten shook his head, not wanting the apology for the Luna at all, “It's fine. Be right down.”

“You're just leaving her in the kitchen with a pack of wolves!” Chloe burst forward at him.

“Umm.” Colten pulled back.

“Little, calm.”

Chloe made a face at her mate, “You males are all so weird!”

“I'm just going to put Ella in bed.” Running up the stairs before Chloe could offer him help, like putting the baby down for him.

He fled the upstairs, trying to make sure he wasn't dreaming. If he was, he'd get a second chance. So, screwing it up wouldn't be so bad in the end. However, if he wasn't, he only had once chance and this really would be his last chance.

He put Ella down and the baby girl stared up at him.

“I tell her she has to be a... wolf?” He asked Ella in a soft, confused voice.

The baby yawned.

“What's that mean, Daniella?” Then resulted to covering up his niece with a near blanket and stepping back from the crib in defeat.

His hand raised to his chest and he pinched his collar bone, “Ow.” He cringed, causing undo harm to himself for the sake of hoping he'd wake up.

Nothing came, no he was living it, maybe.

He swallowed, about to turn and try to figure out his immediate fate and how Abigail should be involved in it, however that was just as her soft voice filled the room.

“Colten?”

He turned to her as she stopped in the door frame. Studying his mate, her face puffy and her eyes dark and what was worse, it had been because of him.

He winced, “I'm sorry, Abi.”

She shook her head, “I'm sorry I've interrupted you're party.”

He broke a smile at her innocence, “You didn't interrupt anything.”

He came towards her and she stepped back. He paused, “Are you afraid of me?”

“You did turn into... a dog.” She breathed.

“It was a wolf.” He corrected her.

Abigail's eyes widened and she swallowed, “I thought I was dreaming.”

“If it makes you feel better, I think I'm dreaming now.” He replied, wincing at his stupid words so far. He could have been covering more ground but he was Colten Turner at the end of the day.

She stayed quiet and her words got her again, “Ever since we've... been spending a lot of time around each other, when I'm away from you, I'm sick. I thought maybe I was pregnant but that really shouldn't be possible. I've been on birth control since I was... There's no way I'm pregnant.”

He let out a breath, “Yeah.”

She stared at him, “You know what's going on, don't you?”

“If you love me,” He tried to advance on her once more, this time she was still against his approach, “Then I suppose we can get around the details easily.”

She nodded, “I do... I love you. I always have.”

He stopped in front of her, “Does Charlie know you're here?”

“Are you joking?” She almost laughed, “I snuck out the back door and walked across the back grazing land.”

He stared at her, “You walked alone?” It made him angry to think about her waking out there alone, his territory unprotected with Oscuro pushing like they were.

She shrugged, “I needed to come to you. You don't even understand what's happened to me these past twenty-four hours.”

He groaned and processed the situation further, “They are going to think I've kidnapped you or something.”

She shrugged, “I have free will. I'm nineteen. He doesn’t own me.”

Colten nodded, “I guess.”

Abigail bit her bottom lip and he sighed. He put his hand to his forehead, hoping to rub away all the issues. Everything now becoming more tangled and ominous then he wanted to deal with.

She stepped towards him in that moment and took his hand from his head. The touch tantalizing and surpassing any other moment in his life.

He stared at the perfect blonde, the way her lips drew out from under her teeth mesmerized his wolf.

She moved in closer, “I want to be with you.”

His heart began to pound in his chest, “You don't even know what that involves... yet.”

“I don't care much.” She breathed, “I've never been with any man that makes my whole existence seem perfect.” Her body then came against him and he tensed.

He dropped his chin, about to kiss her but he held back, almost unsure if he should or not.

She pressed against his chest and put his hand to his shirt collar, “So much plaid.”

A low growl erupted in his chest and she shivered against him.

His mouth came to her cheek and he kissed her, the slight taste of her skin on his mouth was enough to cause his arms to wrap around her and pull her into him. His mouth sunk against her neck and he closed his eyes.

His grip increased on her lower back and he lifted his mouth from her.

Her hands gripping his cheeks and her nose falling against his, “Colten.”

He could feel her heart pounding and her blood coursed through her till she was just a bunch of hormones with him.

Ella's little breathing as she started to fall asleep, snapped him away from his mate's amazing pheromones.

“Let's... uh...” He took her hand and led her out of the bedroom. Closing the door behind them as she crushed her mouth on his.

He groaned, pulling her closer and gripping her back.

She arched into his firm hold on her and smiled against his mouth, “I missed you.”

He paused a moment and tried to think of what was the next appropriate step. His pack was downstairs and they all must have sensed a human.

She smiled against his mouth again, “So, you're a werewolf?”

He winced, “Umm.”

“Were you testing me with your movie choices?” She raised an eyebrow at him.

“No.” He smiled, “I just like werewolf movies. It makes me feel less like a freak.”

“I've never seen a werewolf that turns into an actual wolf.” She explained, almost impressed by the info.

He stepped back and nodded.

Abigail watched him, “If my Dad comes, are you going to fight for me?”

“Yes.” He told her without hesitation, “I was trying to do that last night.”

“I was so confused, Colten.” She told him, almost into a tears again.

He sighed, her tears not easy for him to process and for that, he hoped she would hold them back.

“Are you going to tell me what I have to do?” Her voice soft and almost inaudible, however he could hear her clearly.

He nodded, but he wanted to do it all a certain way first. He thought a moment and took her hand, “Do you want to go downstairs?”

She shrugged.

He paused and leaned into her, “Downstairs, they're all-”

“Werewolves?” She asked.

He nodded, “This is my pack, Fornone. I'm in charge of it.” He could see the fear ignite in her eyes, the information startling her.

He sighed, “You won't be in any danger.”

She nodded, her grip loosening and he tightened his in reassurance.

He stepped into her and kissed her cheek.

“You're... what are you to them?”

“Their alpha.” Hoping she'd grasp the concept.

Abigail nodded, but she seemed spaced.

He leaned in and kissed her again.

She moaned, wanting him closer, like she had forgot he was a werewolf.

He grabbed her around her waist and his tongue met her's as their kiss grew full of fondness for each other.

Abigail never seemed too afraid to move forward and she wasn't either in that moment. Her arms wrapped his neck and took ahold of his dark hair.

He groaned, still believing he was dreaming. He knew if he was gone too long, it may put off everyone so his plan was... well, he didn't really have one.

His wolf took over as she moaned from his hands on the waist of her tight jeans.

She let out a tiny gasp, “Can we go in your bedroom?”

In shock at the request, he figured she'd want all the info before asking that of him again. He straightened up away from her and looked down at his mate.

She had her red flushed cheeks and a slight sweat on her brow, he liked that look on her too much.

He swallowed.

“Well?” She said softly.

“You should come downstairs... meet some of...”

She nodded, disappointed.

He kissed her once more, hoping it would satisfy, because he knew as soon as he got downstairs and was next to Abigail every one of his pack members would have him pegged.

Colten Turner has a mate. A human mate.

He took her hand again, “This meeting is going on for another bit then I'll take you out and we'll talk about it all.”

She nodded, she was far to accepting, he almost didn't understand why.

Staying upstairs in his room with her would have been easier but he knew how that may turn out looking. Instead he sucked it up and guided her down the stairs.

He thought about where he could take her later and decided on a hay field near Silvertun, if he drove out the edge of it on the clear night it was, the stars would be bright and hopefully, the fact that she was mate to a werewolf might come easier for her.

As soon as they were downstairs, it started.

The kids watching old videos in the living room stopped and then giggled. A few smaller girls, including Sally drew in on themselves.

“Great.” He breathed.

Abigail looked to him, “What?”

“Even the children know.” He took her down the hall to the empty kitchen.

Abigail peered out the screen-door, “They know I'm-” She obviously didn't know the right term to describe herself.

“Human?” He finished, “They can smell and sense it, yeah.”

She swallowed, “Oh.”

“Don't worry,” He brought her out the back door, “They already ate.”

Abigail's eyes widened and she looked to him, he winced at his stupid joke.

“Sorry.” He stuffed, “That seemed funnier in my head.”

She looked out to the many pack members as some stopped to have a look at her as well.

“Come on, it's fine.” He took her down the back steps into the soft twilight of the evening. Surprised no one was eyeing her up but everyone did seem to get the point. Abigail Redding, a young human girl, was their alpha's mate.

“Are you hungry?” He asked.

She shook her head.

“Yeah, it's late.” He noted, “Sure you've ate already.”

“I haven't ate anything since you came to the house.” She admitted.

He paused, “Why?”

“I tried to have a cookie but it came back up on the first bite.”

“Well, you should eat something.” Picturing Abigail fainting due to his faults again caused him to get a bit angry.

“I'm really not hungry.”

He took her forearm and led her to the table that still housed semi-warm burgers and half ate bowls of chips and salads.

“No, really.” She tried again.

“No, really.” He echoed, “You need to eat something.” He passed her a paper plate and she took it between her shaking fingers. That tipped him off and he noticed how genuine and nervous she was.

“Are you okay, Abi?”

She swallowed and met his eyes, “Y-yeah.”

He watched her as the paper plate left her finger tips and she fainted. Scrambling after her, he caught her right before she hit the ground.

This made everyone around them stop.

“Oh no.” Alma rushed over.

“Abi.” Colten pushed her blonde bangs from her face.

She didn't respond.

“Oh my god!” Chloe interjected.

Colten panicked and picked his mate up, taking her through the crowd around him. They moved out of his way in a hurry. Though everyone seemed to sense to stay away from him, Chloe and Alma were tight on his heels.

“Take her somewhere quiet, Colten.” Alma instructed him.

His brain started to overload, “She hasn't ate anything for over twenty-four hours.”

“Somewhere quiet, Colten!” Chloe grabbed his shoulder.

“It's a lot to take in.” Alma assured him.

He swallowed as Chloe pushed him from the kitchen.

The little auburn luna was tight at his side, “She'll be fine, Colt.”

He nodded and made his way up the stairs with her, he should have just made love to her like she had wanted, at least then she still would have been coherent!

Chloe opened his bedroom door and he put her in the bed gently, fixing her hair again.

She made a soft moan and his heart jumped up into his throat.

“Baby.” He sat down next to her and put his arms to each side.

Abigail mumbled and moved her cheek along his sheets.

Chloe stood at the end of the bed, “Why did she faint?”

“She just did.” He didn't take his eyes off his mate.

Abigail stirred more.

“Here we go.” Alma was in the room now with cool water and a cloth. She came to his side, “This will help her wake.”

Colten didn't move and Chloe and Alma exchanged glances in the process.

“Colten.” Alma tried.

He didn't really hear the older woman though, being completely consumed with the fact that Abigail had fainted on him.

“Colten.” Alma tried again.

Chloe huffed, “Yo, alpha!”

Colten snapped his head up to the eighteen year old and pulled off his mate. Alma then swooped in and laid a cloth to the blonde's forehead.

He stood and stepped back, giving the older woman room to work.

Chloe walked to him, “She'll pull out in a sec.”

He grumbled.

“Hey, what's up with that Sarah chick?” Chloe then asked abruptly.

He wasn't in much mood to answer questions about Sarah Fuller and so he just stayed quiet.

She huffed, “Fine.”

“Hello, Abi.” Alma smiled at Abigail as she opened her eyes slowly, blinking a few times.

Colten rushed in and Alma was out of his way quick in turn.

Abigail squinted, looking up at him, “What happened?”

“You fainted. Are you okay?” His voice was quick and he was still trying to hold it together. He heard the bedroom door closing and then, that was it. They were alone.

“Oh.” Abigail tried to sit up but he stopped her.

“You need to stop passing out or hitting your head or...” Colten rambled.

She stopped him, “I haven't ate much, plus there still is a bump on my head.”

He leaned into her and kissed her cheek. Her hands then came to his chest and gripped his plaid shirt.

“Sorry to cause a mess.”

He looked to the nightstand and picked up the towel from the water, he rung it out with one hand and put it to her forehead again.

She sat up against his grip and kissed him.

He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her in, “You need to eat, Abi.”

“I just got overwhelmed.” She brought her fingers to his mouth, “Shh.”

He swallowed and dropped his chin, “Okay.” Obeying her was far to easy, he wanted to do whatever she told him to.

She leaned into him again and her mouth bit into his.

Groaning, he met her tongue with his.

She pulled back, “Sorry, I fainted. They must have thought that was a bit weird.”

“Future Lune fainting? They are probably concerned, yeah.”

She blinked a couple times, “Future what?”

“Details.” He breathed and met her big blue eyes, “Let's go. I'll take you now.” He got up, the impending doom of the last five years suddenly weighed in on him, “Alma will get you some food.” He took her hand and pulled her to her feet.

She swallowed and looked up to him, “You can leave?”

He nodded, knowing Grayson was more than capable of dealing with whatever but really, nothing more should have been going down. The meeting was basically over.

He steadied her, “Do you feel okay?”

She nodded, gripping the fabric of his cuffs.

He walked from her an, breathing softly.

He shoved his wool socks out of the way and grabbed the tiny box under them. Slamming the drawer shut by accident as he spun to her, he crammed the box in his pant pocket.

She looked at him through the dim light of the room, “Okay?”

He walked to her without hesitation, “Let's go get you something to eat and then we'll leave.”

“We don't... have to, Colt. I don't want you to disrupt anything for me.”

He looked to her, “Stop. You're not disrupting anything, come on.” He took her hand and led her out of his room, hoping now would put an end to Abigail losing consciousness on him.
