It was hard for her to believe that the clean, even a little shy Kingsley she knew and the bloodthirsty, horrible person in front of her were the same person.
She had always known that Kingsley's condition was serious, but it was only when she was confronted head-on for the first time that she realized just how horrible it was. Kingsley didn't even look like a normal person at this point.
"Kingsley!" Freya's expression changed; she became nervous and cautious as she slowly stepped forward. "Drop the knife and come here, let me see your wound."
At this point, Theo's death was completely unimportant. If Kingsley is allowed to see more bloodshed or even directly kill Theo, I'm afraid his condition will worsen, and he won't be able to regain his sanity at all.
In the face of Freya's coaxing, Kingsley did not react at all. Holding the knife in one hand, he pressed his other hand against Theo's neck harder and harder.
"Kingsley!" Freya was anxious, but she didn't dare to approach any closer. She only looked at him with pleading eyes. "Relax, you can't kill him. You don't want this on your hands; you can't do this..."
If it were any other member of the Livingston family, Freya wouldn't be so worried. So what if they got their hands dirty with the blood? They could handle it. But not Kingsley.
If he really did something like this, he would revert to his nightmare days, and she was afraid he would never recover from it in his life. Freya was so anxious, but unexpectedly, Charlotte beside her suddenly moved.
She looked into Kingsley's eyes and walked over step by step, her footsteps slow but firm and determined. "Kingsley, do you recognize me?"
Kingsley looked at her without the slightest reaction. Charlotte continued, "I'm Charlotte. Look at me. You said I was your light. You also said that you would be good to me in the future, for the rest of my life."
Kingsley's expression slowly became confused. "Charlotte...?"
Freya was instantly delighted; this was a sign that Kingsley was gradually coming back to his senses. Charlotte's footsteps did not stop. Step by step, she walked toward Kingsley, slightly bending down toward him to extend her hand. "Kingsley, can you hold my hand? Can you hug me?"
Kingsley didn't say anything, but it was obvious that the emotion in his eyes was wavering. He lowered his gaze and looked at her white, slender hand, his brow furrowed.
"Kingsley, I'm a little scared. Can you hold me, okay?" Charlotte still used a gentle voice, gently coaxing him.
Kingsley's attention was gradually drawn to her. He let go of the hand restraining Theo, turned sideways, and reached out his hand toward Charlotte. Charlotte's eyes filled with joy, and they were even a little moist. But Kingsley suddenly backed away.
Instead of holding her, he withdrew his hand behind his back, as if looking at her with some trepidation, self-conscious and worried.
"The blood... So much..."
Charlotte didn't catch it and asked gently, "What's wrong?"
Kingsley pursed his lips before saying, "I'm... Dirty..."
Charlotte sniffed, tears instantly welling up in her eyes.
"You're not dirty! You're the cleanest person in the world!" She looked at him stubbornly and seriously. "You're the best and kindest person in the whole world!"
Kingsley looked at her with red eyes, like a small child seeking approval for a mistake, and said unconfidently, "Really?"
"Really!" Charlotte affirmed, "If you don't believe me, look me in the eye and see if I'm lying!"
Kingsley's expression was timid, torn between doubt and not wanting to let Charlotte down. He took a tentative step forward.
Charlotte's face lit up with joy.
Just as Kingsley was about to grasp Charlotte's hand, a sudden shout came from the side: "Kingsley, watch out!"
Kingsley immediately turned back, and before he could react, Theo, who was on the ground, had already climbed up and delivered a flying spinning kick, knocking Kingsley to the ground.
In the next second, he lunged at Charlotte.
"Charlotte!" Chris shrieked as he rushed over, his voice almost breaking.
Charlotte stepped back in fear as Theo pounced, her face pale, but it was futile.
Theo's movements were so fast that even Freya, who had swooped in, couldn't stop him.
Seeing Theo's knife about to stab Charlotte, at the last moment, Kingsley, with an unimaginable speed, hugged Theo's waist from behind and threw him aside.
The force of the two men was beyond imagination. They stumbled forward, tumbling off the rooftop.
"Kingsley!!!" Several mournful voices echoed from above.
Charlotte was about to follow them but was halted by Chris, who had rushed over.
Freya also lunged forward and dropped to her knees, looking towards the darkened downstairs.
"Kingsley, he'll be okay, Kingsley."
With that, she turned back and snapped, "Send someone down to search! Since Theo chose such a place, there's absolutely no way he wouldn't leave himself a way out. Kingsley will be fine, go search!"
The subordinates rushed downstairs to search.
Freya gazed down at the dark, sinking color beneath her and wiped away a tear with determination.
"Kingsley, you were in deep hell back then, and you managed to pull through! You'll be fine this time!" she thought.
Beside her, Charlotte, her eyes red and swollen from crying, could no longer shed tears. She struggled frantically, her hair and clothes disheveled, her expression unspeakably sad.
Chris, heartbroken, hugged her tightly. "Did you hear that? Kingsley will be fine!" he said.
Charlotte, in tears, tried to speak but couldn't find her voice.
Unbeknownst to the crowd, a pale, slender hand appeared at the edge of the rooftop. "It's Kingsley! Quick, someone come!" cried the Livingston family's subordinates, rushing towards the edge.
Freya glanced over, her equipment falling from her hands in shock. "Kingsley?"
She saw Kingsley, covered in blood, pulling himself up onto the rooftop's edge. His subordinates quickly assisted him, and he was brought safely to the ground.
Freya's eyes were crimson, her face filled with unstoppable excitement. She moved to go to him, but another figure was faster, already crossing over her and jumping into Kingsley's arms—it was Charlotte.
Though Kingsley's mind was foggy, he instinctively embraced her tightly as Charlotte's voice choked with sobs.
Regaining her composure, Freya stepped forward, her voice cold and trembling slightly. "First, get him to the hospital. I've already contacted the experts to prepare for his treatment."
Since the moment she learned Theo had appeared in the country, she had begun preparations, reaching out to a renowned foreign doctor. Though the doctor was still en route, she had already arranged for the top healers in the country to attend to Kingsley.
Charlotte, still teary-eyed, hesitated to let go, but Chris approached her and enveloped her in his arms to comfort her. Charlotte gripped Chris's shirt, biting her lip on his shoulder, whimpering softly.
Meanwhile, Kingsley was rushed to the hospital.
