That memory was so vivid.
She fell into the sea and was washed up on the shore, and it was the Parker family that saved her.
She spent half a month in the hospital and woke up on the day she gave birth.
She didn't have a natural birth; her baby was delivered via forced caesarean section by the Parker family! Her baby was so small, taken away from her at birth...
And all this was done by the Parker family to save their daughter.
After giving birth, the Parker family scheduled her for a blood exchange surgery within a few days, and she couldn't resist, so she was promptly confined to the hospital bed...
Then she lost her memory...
"The baby didn't die!" Emily's jaw dropped, her eyes wide. "The child was born and cried, and was taken away by the doctor... After I gave birth, my body was so weak that I couldn't even leave the hospital room. I didn't know where they took the child... Before I could take any action to find the child, I was forced into a full-body blood replacement surgery, and I lost all my memories too..."
Derek's expression turned cold.
It seemed the Parker family was still hiding something.
He clasped Emily's hand and spoke softly, "Don't worry. I will investigate this matter and provide you with answers soon."
Emily knew his capabilities.
Reluctantly, she calmed down and continued to lie on the hospital bed, her heart filled with worry.
To conceal this wrongdoing, perhaps the Parker family would make the baby disappear forever...
At this moment within the Parker family, an elderly woman occupied the main seat and spoke sternly. "None of you are permitted to disclose this matter!"
This elderly woman was Paul's mother. "This is the most significant secret of our family. Anyone who dares to utter a word will face expulsion."
Everyone present wore solemn expressions and nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, a calm voice emanated from the doorway. "The secrets of the Parker family? Am I not also a member of this family? Why should I be kept in the dark?"
With this remark, a slender figure made her way in. She was dressed in a simple white gown, her hair casually falling over her shoulders, her eyes clear yet icy, and a faint smile playing at the corners of her lips. Though her appearance seemed ordinary, it sent shivers down everyone's spine.
Emily pulled out a chair and seated herself without hesitation.
Paul broke into a cold sweat. He had deceived Derek.
"Derek is my husband," Emily stated with a sly grin. The revelation left the entire Parker family pale.
"My adoptive father told my husband that he had transfused my entire blood supply due to hemorrhaging during childbirth," Emily continued.
"He also claimed that my child was born prematurely and sustained injuries unrelated to the Parker family. Is that accurate?" Her smile turned into a menacing arc, sharp as a blade's edge.
Paul broke into a fresh bout of cold sweat, stammering, "That's what happened..."
Clang!
Emily forcefully slammed the water cup from the coffee table onto the surface with a resounding thud. Her voice cut through the air, chilling to the bone.
"Paul, do you honestly believe that the Parker family can conceal anything? Do you truly think that the Scott family can't uncover the truth?"
"Emily, we're telling the truth!" Simona interjected, stepping forward, her voice trembling.
Anger surged through Emily's veins.
Yes, Simona had seemed alright over these three years, but deep down, it was all about redemption. Yet, her daughter's lost life couldn't be repaid with mere gestures of remorse.
"Stop fabricating stories! I remember what happened!" Emily's tone was icy. "My child was forcibly delivered via cesarean section by you and the doctors when she was barely seven months in my womb. Now tell me, where is my baby?"
Her voice echoed through the living room.
In the Parker family yard, two men stood tall. Eric appeared uneasy. "Should I go to help her?"
"Let her release her emotions," Derek responded softly. "After three years of turmoil, she needs to let it out."
The Parker family had rescued her, yet they were also responsible for their daughter's death and her memory loss.
Some grudges couldn't be brushed aside, but some anger had to be expressed.
After about thirty minutes, Emily emerged coldly from the Parker family mansion. Seeing the two men in the yard, she was taken aback. "What are you doing here?"
Derek approached and gently took her cold hand. "Are you alright?"
Emily's eyes were slightly reddened. "One of the nurses handled the baby last. I'm going to the hospital to find out."
Derek signaled to Eric. "You go ahead and locate that nurse. We'll join you shortly."
Emily remained silent all the way.
Eric, who was very efficient, had a nurse of about fifty years brought into his office by now.
"What do you think you're doing? This is a society governed by law and order! You're breaking the law!" The nurse struggled fiercely.
Derek turned his cold eyes toward her. "The Parker family in Kinnis, you're familiar with that family, aren't you?"
The nurse suddenly froze.
"Three years ago, the Parker family entrusted you with a child. Where is that child?"
The nurse's face went pale.
Three years prior, she had been involved in that operation, and the Parker family had given her three hundred thousand dollars in hush money.
"I don't know anything..." The nurse shivered.
Eric then reached out and forcefully twisted the nurse's wrist without hesitation.
The nurse held her injured wrist, not daring to breathe.
She was certain that if she didn't comply, the man in front of her might even break her legs...
"That child was already dead when it was handed over to me," the nurse admitted, closing her eyes. "But as I was about to dispose of it, the child suddenly cried out and came back to life..."
Quickly, Eric obtained all the necessary information.
He went to Derek and then said, "The nurse sold the baby girl to a couple in need."
"What are you saying?" Emily interjected angrily.
Her emotions had fluctuated greatly, and her expression turned cold and stern.
"Based on her description, I created portraits of the couple. After investigation, I discovered that the man was a human trafficker apprehended three years ago, and all the abducted children were sent to Kinnis Orphanage..."
Something clicked in Emily's mind, but she couldn't quite grasp it.
Derek placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder and softly said, "Don't worry. Remember, you have a rare blood type. Finding a child with a similar blood type shouldn't be too difficult."
Boom!
Emily suddenly realized something.
She seized Derek's hand. "We need to get to Kinnis Hospital, quickly! It's her, that kid!"
A hint of unease and panic tinged her voice.
Derek stood frozen, his entire body stunned.
Emily was referring to the little girl they had saved with a blood transfusion previously. The child's eyes bore a striking resemblance to both Diana's childhood gaze and Emily's own.
Could she truly be their daughter?
Without delay, Derek and Emily rushed to the hospital once again.
A month later, Charlotte was discharged, and the hospital entrance buzzed with warmth and activity.
"Daddy, Mommy!" Charlotte chirped, her head cocked to one side, a sweet smile gracing her lips as she addressed each of them.
At three years old, Charlotte was at the peak of adorable innocence, her eyes as clear and lively as grapes. Her four older siblings surrounded her, promising her a spacious room filled with Barbie dolls and playhouse toys, pledging to play with her every day.
"Really? Then I'm so happy!" Charlotte clapped her hands gleefully.
Derek cradled Charlotte, newly discharged, while the four children huddled around. Emily held their hands, while their butler respectfully opened the car door. Together, the family of six settled into the car, disappearing slowly into the bustling street.
As the cool wind tousled Emily's hair through the car window, she absorbed the sights and sounds of the busy street.
True happiness, she realized, was not a fleeting burst of joy or occasional surprise, nor was it devoid of pain or sorrow. It was as ubiquitous as air, as comforting as sunshine, and as nurturing as rain, silently enveloping them all.
"Mommy, what are you thinking about?" Charlotte's voice broke through her reverie.
"I'm thinking about what I'll cook for you once we're home," Emily replied softly, sharing a smile with Derek by her side.
